Hi, well, we are getting winter weather now. You would have to pick your days out walking. Most trails are a mud bath....thanks for watching and commenting. Andy.
Nice video Andy...what I've started doing with my sticks is after sand bark or wood I use that varnish which is milky colour when wet, then after applying couple coats I then use rustins polish which gives it nice shine...it's not over shiny like yaht but still really nice
Hi, That's handy to know. I have used an ECO varnish, which was white when applied but dried clear. Most customers have moved to oil at the moment so I am fortunate at the moment. Thanks for watching and commenting. Andy.
I did a handle for a digging implement, leaving the bark on; several coats of Danish oil. About 3-4 years later the bark began to peel. Just thought I'd give a heads up.
That's always a concern. I have seen 100 year old sticks with dark in good condition but also bark lifting in 5 or 6 years. That's why bark selection is critical for the starting point of a project. Using a hard varnish can reduce this concern more than oils which is the advantage varnish has . That's for commenting. Andy.
Hi, I experimented with one, but the UV protection was minimal in it. I must invest more time searching for new products. If you can recommend any, that would be great.Cheers Andy.
Hi, after my eye accident, I would not follow how I have done mine ....but I would suggest a dremel and a wood cutting bur. I do use a big chainsaw file ( the ones that you sharpen the teeth with) if doing it by hand. Its slower, but it gives the same effect and has no safety issues like power tools. To get a good line and spacings, use some masking tape wrapped around like a plaster. Then file the Grove around the edge of the masking tape till you get the effect you're looking for .Thanks for watching and commenting. Andy.

Have you tried the water based varnishes?

Hi. I was wondering how you cut or carve the hand rings? (i think you called them hand rings) also how you mark them to be cut.
Thanks
