If San Diego was "America's Finest City" it wouldn't dare say so. It's simply not something anyone says about themselves. Others saying it would give it at least some credibility. It's one more example of how this city remains largely a hyped situation, historically corrupt and desperately mismanaged, and failing to ever assert an identity of its own. A city isn't great or even passable because of its weather or its architecture or its programs or its public investment. A city is great if its residents are good people. And far too many San Diegans are not.
