When she wanted to leave they said: "you can either help, go to prison (so you don't tell anyone) or choose euthenasia. I was just dumbfounded. And she just chose to be killed off. I think what really killed me was that all or most of the people in the data points still had hope that Horizon is a super weapon to save them while in reality nothing could save then and all of them will have died a grueling death via any form imaginable while dying with the hope that their cause might save their families and friends who will have died the same way as them never to be saved by anything
General Herres was an honorable man in HZD. He was dealt the worst hand imaginable and went with it, and instead of trying to let history fade away, he wanted his "crimes" documented.
I have said this very thing multiple times! I'm glad someone else feels the same way. The sense of utter awe and shock as the story kept going was incredible.
I normally look on youtube for help with the games I play, not much bothered about spoilers. But with this game, I didn't. I played through it blind, trying to guess the plot, and I was not disappointed with the amazing story, so sad, so tragic and yet so amazing. That first time was the best, but I still love playing through it, as I am now.
Just finished my play-through and found these comments. Couldn’t agree more. I was awestruck m playing this game. A story and character that I literally couldn’t get enough of! Going straight into my game + - best story I’ve heard in years
General Herres is one of the most interesting characters from the past, I think. It's clear that Faro and Sobeck are supposed to be opposites, character foils to one another. The thing Ted creates, The Faro Plague, brings death, Whereas the thing Elizabet creates, Gaia, brings life. But Herres is also supposed to serve as a character foil to Faro. Where Faro tries as much as he can to hide what he has done, not telling anyone else about the glitch until it's already too late, and then erasing Apollo, in part to hide his crimes, Herres does the opposite, he has Elizabet upload a confession of sorts to Apollo, so the next humans will know that he was the one that convinced men and women to die on the battlefield, rather than at home in the arms of those they love. So the next humans know what was truly sacrificed so that they could live.
Not sure it was a crime, the machine needed to be held back long enough and HZD is a secret weapon when you think about it. Dude clearly taking it too personal, especially as it was Faro who doomed them all
Indeed. Faro was responsible for everything that happened but in the end tried to cover his involvement up by deleting Apollo. he (allegedly) died unrepentant and selfish, safe in his bunker, presumably living for years to decades more than the world he doomed. His last notable act was Dooming humanity to extinction and its successors to ignorance. Harris on the other hand, accepted his blame in things and never forgave himself for what he had to do in operation Enduring Victory. he wanted history to judge him as he was. He may have never have forgiven himself but if it were not for his actions, and what he did, Zero Dawn would have failed. He died a hero who thought himself a villain.
I would love a spin-off game/dlc centered on the soldiers from Enduring Victory. Every time I am out in the world exploring or collecting things and I come across the tanks or a obvious battle location, I try to imagine the scene captured in time at that spot. I know the creators probably did not put the wrecks there with that intent, but I like to let myself be immersed and just imagine it at times.
enduring victory is a sad but unfortunately necessary eventuality to try and give as much time. Harris did the best that he could to give that time with this strategy the lesser of two evils. i respect him for putting on record. he wasn't one to hide his decision people would have hated him if they found out but to me it shows how much integrity this character has to admit to his plan for the greater good of humanity . such a compelling story. another good video keep it up.
Not sure I'd call it arrogance. Ted started his business and realized people wanted home automation robots. So he built them. Then he realized people wanted environment cleaning robots. So he built them. Then people wanted unstoppable war machines. So he built them. All according to the desires of the customers. He simply did not consider the consequences of his actions.

He also didn’t hide in a bunker like a coward as the inevitable approached. He stuck with his men and fought to the very last bullet, man and breath. Truly a hero

Given what happens during operation enduring victory, I can't help but think how fun that situation would be if guerilla made a mmo PvE game out if this. Just imagine you being able to select how many players you want on your side from a last stand numbers of 10 to full-on front line battalion numbers of 100 and just see how long you can last against the swarm. On top of this players could have the options of driving any type of military ground or air based vehicle or military installation to aid in the defence. Everytime the players reach a milestone of waves (lets say 5) the swarm readjust whatever plan of attack they had and attack in a different matter and with stronger versions of bots, this way every match is different and non-repetitive. Guerilla did an amazing Job with Killzone before Horizon. So Imagine a FPS prequel called "The Swarm". You play the role of a skilled soldier during enduring victory. The game could get really emotional and inevitably end with the death of your squad and yourself as the last man standing in the grave hoard before the end. We can get a glimpse of so much lore and the equipment available at the time. They could also make it playable in PSVR.
The most terrifying part of this war was the fact that they were facing machines that felt nothing. No matter how much they "killed" they'd just replicate and come back. Seeing your fellow comrades being ripped apart and turned into fuel would've been just disheartening. Losing every single battle ....
It's really sad when you think how in the real world we are already automating warfare, yet when people are dying many can't even wear a mask. Horizon Zero Down is a power fantasy Not because you fight robot dinosaurs, but because humanity ever joined together.
Huh Wichita, Kansas was their last stand. Seems so random of a place for it to end. The battles for NYC and DC must had been epic before the final fall.
My son and I are going on a road trip this summer and one of our destinations is to hike to Emerald Lake, the frozen lake at the bottom of The Grave Hoard, where you can see Hallet Peak and Flat Top Mountain
Thanks for shedding light on the lore of HZD. I having fun learning from the lore and I love it. Thanksss!!! Edit: My birthday is the last stand of humankind.. well in regards to the lore that is. What a way to celebrate my birth and birth of many of the same day than to fight and make a last stand. I bet it is sad too, knowing that you fought knowing nothing but at least, you didn't died for nothing.
Is there no lore about the fighting in europe or asia? The battle of california is so dull compared to the images that come to mind when thinking about a battle of the himalayans or the alps mountains or the russian steppes....
Passing through the Grave Hoard was where the Horizon really cemented itself as something special and impactful, for me at least. Teed up perfectly by the previous mission, before the long journey.
Well there was one description were a Horus machine turned an entire pod of endangered dolphins into a biomass slurpy using its drill tentacles as a blender.. There was also one who got hit by the nano machine fog and got their legs consumed..
@@BossDragon3000 I agree, also I think the dilemma and consequences are so mind boggling that for people with a conscience some sort of punishment or personal consequence is what might keep them sane through out it all or die with some sort of peace of mind.
(late reply lol) the contrast between Herres accepting responsibility for his abominable but necessary actions and Faro (some speculate, myself included) literally trying to erase human history so future generations won't name him as the cause really highlights what an arrogant chump Faro is at heart.
Every soldiers and generals who put every effort fight for this project are all heroes that save the world and prevent the extinction of humanity. They shall not died in vain. Under god they shall have a new birth with freedom and humanity shall not perish from the earth.
hey, i may have a new subject for you. it may not be much but there it is. so we know that there's the rusty frame of an Horus unit at top of All Mother mountain. and right after the proving ,when you're inside All-Mother's mountain , we can see during a cutscene that it had pierced the bunker and almost made it to the main door of the Eleuthia-9 complex..and it terrifies me when i think about it. it took minerva 50years to deactivate the swarm,so the machines continued to roam the earth for half a century afterî the end of life on earth. it also means that there must have been some sort of damage to the bunker's shell for the swarm to have detected the energy signature of the complex ... and if minerva had taken even just a couple hours more to succeed in its task of deactivating the faro swarm, that Horus would have plowed trough the whole complex , destroying all the dna samples and organic mateial needed to grow embryos .. before GAIA could ever use the facility to grow the very first new humans , preventing the rebirth of human civilization
What i dont get is how a woman with a bow and some leather pants can take down a robot but billions of soldiers that have access to all the technology of the late 21st century cant
They were mass producing so fast that taking down one or two of the swarm a single Horus could put out didn't put a dent in the Plague. If Aloy were to attempt to fight the Plague/Swarm, she wouldn't have survived either. All of Faro's robots were deep underground in hibernation and shut down by MINERVA centuries before; the ones we see that aren't Corruptors and Deathbringers are HEPHESTUS's doing, and were supposed to be peaceful, until G. PRIME self-destructed. That's what set off the Derangement. Let's not forget that all the tech the "modern era" fighters had could be overtaken by the Swarm, so tech was quickly rendered useless. So it's totally reasonable now that someone like Aloy can take down tons of robots with just a bow.
Nearly all of the Faro robots are said to be damaged, some more than others. This is evident in them being prone to overheating, along with how some Deathbringers are missing one of their guns. Another is that, Aloy is for all intents and purposes, a soldier in her own right. Her skill and knowledge of machines and hunting them is unparalleled, save for Sylens. She was also raised and trained in how to assess different machines for both parts and in order to kill them, something only futhered by her Focus.
@@charlieshepard5802 i think you confused the environmental robots with the corruptors. There were Corruptors and Kopeshes controlled by Hades during the game that you get to fight.
Imagine you a skilled hunter can take out let's say 2 tigers. Now imagine a never ending wave of tigers accompanied by carnivorous elephants coming your way.. That's why Aloy can take them down. Heck Aloy was was able to kill Khopeshes one at a time and the soldiers back then fought an entire swarm of these, that mind you are being repaired by the corruptors as well.
He lied to civilians and soldiers about the real reason for the operation. He sacrificed them like chess pieces. In present, it's like telling your soldiers to hold a certain position and wait for backup only that, backup was never coming and that they were left there so that you can attack another stronghold. Problem is, the soldiers left to die had no idea of the plan.
I don't think that the Pacific Ocean garbage was dumped Into the ocean. I'm pretty sure that's supposed to be a future continuation of the current island of garbage in the Pacific Ocean that has only gotten bigger since the 2010's.
No because the Swarm were able to hack into anything that is automated such as Planes, Anti Aircraft/ Guided Rockets, Robots, Automated Guns and they would use it back against them I’m pretty sure in one of the Holographic datapoints it said “the Scarab's ability to slave enemy robots to its own network. Now that's force multiplication.”

The game could get really emotional and inevitably end with the death of your squad and yourself as the last man standing in the grave hoard before the end.
We can get a glimpse of so much lore and the equipment available at the time.
They could also make it playable in PSVR.
So good to listen to these again, with the benefit of time passing, further playthroughs of HZD and the extra bits we learned in HFW
You know I didnt catch till just now that my city is where it all came down. Kinda crazy.
The most terrifying part of this war was the fact that they were facing machines that felt nothing. No matter how much they "killed" they'd just replicate and come back.
Seeing your fellow comrades being ripped apart and turned into fuel would've been just disheartening. Losing every single battle ....
man i would love to see a movie or mini series about operation enduring victory
It's really sad when you think how in the real world we are already automating warfare, yet when people are dying many can't even wear a mask. Horizon Zero Down is a power fantasy Not because you fight robot dinosaurs, but because humanity ever joined together.
We need a remake for this video especially with all the new data from the battles in horizon forbidden west
Huh
Wichita, Kansas was their last stand.
I would love an enduring victory prequel game
Never stop making these kinds of videos
I would guess since Herres is the commander of American forces he probably only has intel on those battles
When the first time i experienced what is Operation Enduring Victory, I WAS SHOCK! "Give rail guns to every citizen?" Damn chill
I wish we got a movie or game about enduring victory 😩
am i the only one who wants to play as soldier fighting during the faro plague i think it would be interesting
That would be super cool, just imagine
Can you do a video about CYAN?
Hey Victor! If I might recommend our Artificial Intelligence video, I think it might have what your looking for :)
Passing through the Grave Hoard was where the Horizon really cemented itself as something special and impactful, for me at least. Teed up perfectly by the previous mission, before the long journey.
The thought of witnessing operation enduring victory and the faro horde consuming biomass would be too frightening.
Well there was one description were a Horus machine turned an entire pod of endangered dolphins into a biomass slurpy using its drill tentacles as a blender..
There was also one who got hit by the nano machine fog and got their legs consumed..
Amazing game. I think it has surpassed BOTW as my best RPG ever. Got it on PC. May have to buy a PS5
general harris was to harsh to himself
He was but when you make choices like those (although necessary and ultimately the best choice) you should not be praised for them
@@BossDragon3000 I agree, also I think the dilemma and consequences are so mind boggling that for people with a conscience some sort of punishment or personal consequence is what might keep them sane through out it all or die with some sort of peace of mind.
(late reply lol) the contrast between Herres accepting responsibility for his abominable but necessary actions and Faro (some speculate, myself included) literally trying to erase human history so future generations won't name him as the cause really highlights what an arrogant chump Faro is at heart.
@@chucklytellthen you learn what he was up to after purging Apollo and understand he actually was a horrible person
Every soldiers and generals who put every effort fight for this project are all heroes that save the world and prevent the extinction of humanity.
They shall not died in vain. Under god they shall have a new birth with freedom and humanity shall not perish from the earth.
what chills me is that we already have warmachines with the ability to turn biomass into fuel.
That must have been tough to take even as a general, that's why he is sooo honorable.
hey, i may have a new subject for you. it may not be much but there it is.
so we know that there's the rusty frame of an Horus unit at top of All Mother mountain. and right after the proving ,when you're inside All-Mother's mountain , we can see during a cutscene that it had pierced the bunker and almost made it to the main door of the Eleuthia-9 complex..and it terrifies me when i think about it.
it took minerva 50years to deactivate the swarm,so the machines continued to roam the earth for half a century afterî the end of life on earth.
it also means that there must have been some sort of damage to the bunker's shell for the swarm to have detected the energy signature of the complex ...
and if minerva had taken even just a couple hours more to succeed in its task of deactivating the faro swarm, that Horus would have plowed trough the whole complex , destroying all the dna samples and organic mateial needed to grow embryos .. before GAIA could ever use the facility to grow the very first new humans , preventing the rebirth of human civilization
does anyone know what the song in the background is called?
Herres and the Generals of the Worlds Armies are all heroes no matter how grave there actions were.
I would love this as a prequel to the series
Ain’t happening
Where is the scene from 5 minutes from?
Meridian
I would like to see a film about operation “Enduring Victory”
"The U.S. armed forces disband all human combat forces in favor of a fully automated military"
That's a cool trick, let's see how that goes.
Powerful
I have been trying to find a secret cave. A walkthrough would be awesome,!! Could u at least say
"Go,here?!"
Chariots: we destroyed man kind
Some girl with arrows: hold my fish bone
Well it's similar to the protoss vs zerg situation. One zealot can take out 2 zerglings but not an entire swarm.
What is that music?
I don’t mind if we get DLC game for “Operation Enduring Victory”! It’s so heartbreaking, fighting and knowing that they will NEVER WIN 😭
They have to make a game about this
What i dont get is how a woman with a bow and some leather pants can take down a robot but billions of soldiers that have access to all the technology of the late 21st century cant
Aloy doesn’t fight a swarm. Like everyone else did.
Anyone know what the Music/ OST is playing in the background?
Horizon Zero Dawn OST - The Bad News
How is he considered a war criminal?! he did what he was supposed to do to not face extinction
Strategically, it was an amazing move, morally, it was wrong
whats the music
Make a great sci-fi movie, the Faro plague/ Operation enduring victory. Aloy time would be a hard ask.
Knowing this, i hate Ted Faro even more
I like these videos, but i'm the weirdo that likes longform videos more
Their mistake was not giving everyone a bow.
Fr.
I don't think that the Pacific Ocean garbage was dumped Into the ocean. I'm pretty sure that's supposed to be a future continuation of the current island of garbage in the Pacific Ocean that has only gotten bigger since the 2010's.
Wichita. Not to terribly far from where I was born.
Couldn’t they have just used their robots and Horus to slow them down a bit?
No because the Swarm were able to hack into anything that is automated such as Planes, Anti Aircraft/ Guided Rockets, Robots, Automated Guns and they would use it back against them I’m pretty sure in one of the Holographic datapoints it said “the Scarab's ability to slave enemy robots to its own network. Now that's force multiplication.”
Fallout = Horizon Zero Dawn
The robots lost
they loose because they use the same operation in south park keep behind the darkiest
It’s hits so hard because it sounds like something that would actually be used to counter threats. The guise of a war that can be won when in truth it’s all a fight for time
