- so yea if you watched part 1 you get what we have built here. proper budget build standard st170 bottom end 2mm decomp plate x2 head gaskets a turbo aaaaaand lets see what happens lol its going to end in tears I can see it now lol let me know what you think guys cheers stay safe :)
Great video ignition advantage, you gave me a scare when it didn't start lol, sounds awesome,Dyno and road test, looking forward to seeing that👌😀👍
love the smiles upon startup. good job lads
Love it! Another successful Zetec spins up! 😎 Another pukka installment, cheers for all the content mate, keep it coming! 😁👌👌🍻🍻🍻
been waiting for this, bee good to see it on the dyno..
Awesome stuff guys, I'm not far from the button my self, rather excited
Looking forward to seeing this on the dyno. Don't know why people like the st/blacktop engine so much as the st engine isn't exactly strong. Sintered steel rods and cast pistons. Still, they seem to hold up at around 300bhp and cost bugger all so i guess that's why they're popular.
Squeeze cast pistons actually 😎
How far can you push a Zetec block & stock crank? With forged pistons & H beam rods.
MR HIPBONE79 ive taken them to 800hp
@@ignitionadvantages6592 that's great to hear, further than I ever plan to go! I'm starting a boosted blacktop build later in the year, but no one down here in Oz knows anything about them.
@@ignitionadvantages6592 nope, mahle pressure cast pistons such as the focus rs and cossie are denoted by a 'p' in the casting number, st170 has a plain old 'L' showing that they're normal cast. Even confirmed this with mahle themselves 👍
Nice work guys 🤜🏻🤛🏻
How do ford gearboxes hold up nowadays?. Back in the day I had a turbo technics MkII XR2 and went trough 3 gearboxes!!!.
Even worse then they used to as most have done hundreds of thousands of miles.
Cable-shift MTX75 is pretty strong. Not indestructible however. But Way better than the IB5 or whatever it was in the RST).
Made of hopes and dreams and inevitably land up broken!!!! Lol... Made of marshmallows
that race car sound though.dribble dribble
Hang on..johnny 5 in the same room as a zetec turbo engine...you do the 'math' 🤔😁
Been waiting for this! Nice one guys. Quick question, what turbo and external wastegate is that?
Great info on here! Thanks for this vid. What turbo and intercooler did you guys use?
Never mind you mention it all in the next vid 😂🙈
Yes lads mega progress 👌😎
Hello, writing from Brazil, please, do you have any tip about how to install the crankcase gasket? I have a Focus Zetec 2.0 16v that was with a lot of oil leakeage and, after the gasket replacement, the problem is even worse. I think the gasket the I installed was not good, but I don't know if there is some tip like put chemical gasket together...... Thank you.
This is exactly what I wanna do with my mk2 escort. Is that a standard blacktop inlet? What injectors you got in there? Any help would be much appreciated. Great videos proper getting into them, keep them coming mate 👍🏻
Can't comment on his setup but I'm working on pretty much the same build for my mk4. The inlet looks the same as what I have but perhaps I'm wrong. Mine is from a MK2 Mondeo, the one without the metal pipe. It allows a 70mm throttle body.
I'm going for Deka IV injectors which I think are 630cc. Should be more than enough for this build.
Love the videos.
Does the maxxecu mini, require you to run the stock ecu? Or can you run it alone as a regular standalone ecu?
Hi guys. Great content. I am just starting the Zetec conversion to my convertible XR3i given I blew up my supercharged CVH. I noticed that you have wiring loom to maxxecu avalable. Do you still have those?
🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Hi pal I am wanting to put a 1.8 or 2l zetec non turbo in a escort van do you have to weld in engine mounts or do they bolt in also does the diesel gearbox off the vans fit the zetec engines out of a focus thanks
Great vid thanks for sharing. 🐵
The part of the sumo you grinded off, did you do the same on the driveshaft side?
We're there gaps to let dust in?
Hi. Is that lower aluminum part of the engine (0:36) somehow bolted to the IB5 gearbox? I have such a kit and none of the screws fit into the lower part. Can it be connected somehow?
how many work shops do you have ? every time i watch your in a different work shop. lol 😷 stay safe tgc Gazza
3 lol
@ignition advantages what would you prefer for a reliable 500 whp turbo build a zetec or duratec and why pls there aint a lot of knowledge out there thanks in advance
What bracket did you use to mount the alternator to the front of the block? And is the idler pulley just bolted on through the ally cam belt cover?
Stumbled across your channel, great content, hope you can answer my question, but what brake servo/master cylinder are you guys running on the cabby?
Mondeo non abs servo. We shortened the bracket to bring the pedal back to standard position and to give more clearance in the engine bay
Which model of volkwagen polo coil u used? Thanks
Where you take the oil feed from ? Tha ks in advance
Wat ECU did u use also thought it had to be lifted on trailer to a mapping company
Any issues with the SVT valve springs? I was told years ago they are too long.
Question why not use the st 170 head with blacktop cams?
Surely more power in n/a form then turbo it🤔
Good work sold my cab last year wish i hadn't now.....
Because they dont fit 👌🏻
@@ignitionadvantages6592
Fair comment i guess cost of cams for a turbo conversion for a 170 head would be better spent elsewhere 👍
Retro 80's exactly that current cost of this engine build is under £300
Would you be able to give some more info on the exhaust manifold and turbo you guys have used? Thanks
looks like a standard 1.8/2.0 manifold with possibly a t3 flange weded on and with a extra pipe welded in for the wastegate
What pulley kit you used to get it run the correct way? Or you drilled and tapped and fitted that your self?
Jack Minor standard blacktop stuff with a pully welded on the front
Ignition Advantages you think I could drill and tap one on or best welding drill and tap I could do if needed to weld I gues I can get that sorted at work, also what pulley have you gone with a normal blacktop one or this a kit you found nice one
yooooo
I wish I could find someone to turbo my focus st170 track car 😔
What size belt are you running on there?
IB5 gearbox?
What have you done for the coolant temp sensor for the guage?
Watch part one I literally explain it in detail
@@ignitionadvantages6592 just had another ganders. I overlooked that first time round. That's what my plan was but finding a 1/8 npt tap is proving to be a bastard so I'll look at an inline one for now
Jody Mcloughlin why do you need a tap for the coolant temp sensor??? Just screw it into the standard hole
1/4npt is for an oil feed.
@@ignitionadvantages6592 yeah the coolant temp sensor mate. I've read they're 1/8 npt thread. The zetec doesn't have the sensor in the head. I'm also using the later blacktop/st170 stat housing which doesn't have a threaded port. Same as in your part 1 video. Looks like you've drilled and tapped a hole for the temp sensor. As in the one for the temp gauge, not the management.
Jody Mcloughlin for the managment we drill a hole in the side of the head under the coil pack bracket
Is this a totally standard bottom end? Is it likely to last if so?
I'm working on the same build for my Escort and from what I've read elsewhere is that the ST170 engine has forged pistons as standard. The weak part is the Conrod bolts. I've installed uprated ARP bolts on mine. That being said I haven't actually installed and fired it up at all yet so time will tell.
@@carlbuckley6230 nice mate keep us updated with its progress
It was done 20 years ago. All you tubers do is copy it's a shame you can't come up with anything interesting.
