Mexican here, I’ll give you some fun facts.
1: the Renault Kwid it’s the cheapest car in Mexico, that Kwid is the E-tech version, meaning the electric version, quite a good little car btw.
2: the Virtus it’s smaller that the Jetta but better equipped, it has really cannibalized the Jetta here in México.
3: The Renault Logan isn’t lifted. Renault saw the consumers wanted high riding so they modified the Logan to fit a lifted suspension from the factory.
4: Chirey it’s the global brand “Cherry”, they had to change the name in México due to legal reasons but the cars are very well equipped and not that expensive.
5: The journey it’s just a re-badged Chinese car, same with the Aveo and the Territory.
6: Cupra it’s a big brand now, at first it took some Seat models and made them sportier but lately they have been making exclusive sporty models for cupra. They have been eating sales for seat since they came out.

14:57 Most standard Mexican auto insurance policies do not cover collisions that occur in the United States, as you may imagine, they are typically designed for use within Mexico. To legally drive and be insured while visiting the U.S., Mexican drivers need to purchase temporary or supplemental insurance specifically designed for U.S. coverage, which nobody ever does. Without this additional insurance, a Mexican driver involved in an accident in the U.S. would generally be considered uninsured, which can/does/WILL complicate the claims process for all parties involved. In other words.. just pray lol

Because the NHTSA decided to make it a requirement in 1968 and it's very hard to get rid of a law once it's in place. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 108 requires "passenger cars manufactured on or after January 1, 1970, to be equipped with a total of 4 side marker lamps and 4 side marker reflectors, one marker and one reflector, amber in color, on each side of the vehicle "as far forward as practicable", and one marker and one reflector, red in color, on each side of the vehicle, "as far to the rear as practicable" Between January 1, 1969 and January 1, 1970 the option of reflectors or markers, or a combination of the two, was permitted."

      Bingo.
Until 1913 the federal government was funded by the liquor tax and import tariffs chiefly. The income tax was introduced prior to Prohibition because the government knew it would lose a lot of revenue once alcohol was banned. In 1912 there were 392k federal gov't employees; 215k were employed by the post office, and that was also funded by the sale of stamps. With the loss of the liquor tax, many states introduced their own state income taxes as well.
Prohibition was repealed and the liquor tax resumed, yet income taxes remained. Funny, eh?
Prohibition was a ruse to introduce the income tax.

    2. 1:55 Hyundai Grand i10, here it's sold in the name of 'Aura' and i10 here is basically the hatchback version of this car.
    3. 2.23 Renault kwid but we only have the Petrol version ( One of the two cheapest/most affordable cars in our market)
    4. 2:43 Sold as Nissan 'Micra' here.. used to be one of the cheapest cars. (Discontinued)
    5. 4:45 Mighty Hilux, Best pickup sold here although it's quite expensive because of import taxes (CKD Unit).
    6. Hyundai creta(pre-facelift), highest selling car in its segment and overall market.. 150k units sold in 2023.
    7. Honda city (4th gen) currently selling the 5th gen and one of thr few surviving sedans in the declining sedan market.

Something weird about the Mexican market is that the few markets you can get about American and European-regulated cars. So we get a mix of everything, that and yeah Mexico is the last front for sedans, that go for sub compact to the big sedans, so most brands import their China only models to Mexico, because they cant keep the demand.
