    Thanks for the video; it's relaxing to watch you paint. I'm a fan of fluorescent Magenta by Novacolor; alas, I didn't realize those colors aren't lightfast! I bought an unusual color (for me) this year: Titan Green Pale by Golden. I wondered why I bought it, then figured out it is the perfect color to tone down any pink, red, or orange. 🙂

    this is very helpful to watch the creation of areas of calm which highlights the really interesting marks. The palette has no resemblence to florescent! Such complex greys. I love your videos, Pam. I’m curious about the way you’ve mounted your unstretched canvas on the wall. Have you described this in another video, or can you tell us more here? Thumbtacks on my drywall aren’t really working! Thanks.

    • @PamelaCaughey
      @PamelaCaughey  5 місяців тому

      It was kind of an experiment and I didn’t create a video on it but I just took long strips of wood and stapled the canvas to these strips of wood. Then I screwed the wood strips to the wall in 3 places -this allows me to remove the screw, roll up the work and hang another one! I hope this helps a bit 😄

    I am concerned about the lightfastness of the flourecents (low or unrated); do you in your professional work? Neon colors do make a nice mix-in color for some "glow".

    • @PamelaCaughey
      @PamelaCaughey  5 місяців тому

      Yes - you are absolutely right - one more concern with those fluorescents. I found a product in the Golden Acrylic line that helps prevent UV light which is what causes the fading so I applied several coats of this clear product over the painting when finished. The product is called: Gloss and Semi-Gloss UV Topcoat

    • @lulabelle33
      @lulabelle33 5 місяців тому +1

      @@PamelaCaugheythx. That was my concern too. I see Kathe Bradford doing fluorescent work in her latest show and think ??? What? How? I spoke to Nova and got no directive that fluorescents can be stable other than UV windows and glass etc... so I abandoned the idea ( lol although I'm not really in any big selling realm yet... still I thought why invite probable issues). But I adore Kathe Bradford's work always and these were brilliant. I'm going to look into the Golden UV finish again

    • @PamelaCaughey
      @PamelaCaughey  5 місяців тому +1

      @@lulabelle33 Great comment. While fluorescent paint is more vulnerable to UV, all art should be hung in a way that it is not exposed to direct sun. I now have the painting hanging where there is no direct light - and it has the UV topcoat. I am keeping an eye on it, of course - but my interest in experimenting with these colors was not to produce a masterpiece or sell it - it was to use the paint and see if I could make it work. I definitely think avoiding potential problems is a good idea but well, I had the paint, so I used it! ;)

    I agree with the comment about lightfastness. That is the reason i do not use fluorescent colors and discourage my students from using them. They have become “popular” but that does not make them lightfast…same with alcohol inks. They are all “evanescent”, ie they fade…

    • @PamelaCaughey
      @PamelaCaughey  5 місяців тому

      Yes - I agree and do also avoid alcohol inks, though I see so many artists using them. Basically, I bought the fluorescent paint before realizing they wer enot lightfast - but I still wanted to explore these colors since I bought them. And, there are products on the market which can provide UV protection to at least minimize fading. As this painting progressed, there were areas of fluorescent in minimal portions f the final painting, but most of the painting was regular acrylic paint - so the fluorescent areas simply provided a few pops of color. Great comment though - thank you for pointing this out as you are 100% correct!!

    I very much want to watch this video, but the low resolution of 360i makes it too blurry to tolerate. I will come back later in hopes that the resolution increases to a higher level.

    • @PamelaCaughey
      @PamelaCaughey  5 місяців тому

      I’m not sure why it is blurry for you-it is like my other videos-do you see the other videos as blurry, too? I’m so sorry!

      @AxisXY 5 місяців тому

      @@PamelaCaughey Hi Pamela, thanks for responding. I am not sure of your process, but it seems some of your videos are high def (1080i) and quite clear, a couple are 720i and okay to watch, but some, like this one are 360i resolution and only good to watch in a small sized format.
      I tend to want to watch all my artist videos in full screen (so I can focus on the art making and not the surrounding noise of ads) which is why 360i is blurry.
      I very much enjoy your work, and have learned quite a lot from you. For that I am grateful.

      @@AxisXY Hey - thanks very much for responding! This is good to know - I probaby was using Streamyard for this video - which of course has limitations since it was originally streamed rather than being taken during a zoom call or using my DSLR camera. There are three ways I shoot videos and this one was recorded in part during a live presentation but then later using just Streamyard recordinig (if I'm remembering correctly!). I apologize for the blurriness - your comments are really helpful! After trying Streamyard and Zoom, I know my camera is the best, but it takes the most work to post edit - so it's often a matter of how much time I have to process videos ;) Thank you!
