The assault on Venom always gives me chills. The music really sets the tone. You can feel the pressure and stakes ramping up as you're breaking through Venom's defense lines. They couldn't have done it any better.
Imagine being the guy tasked with controlling the Gorgon and this happens. Boss: You mean to tell me, the Gorgon, the practically indestructible weapon we’ve invested countless funds into, with impregnable armor plating, loads of missiles and defender drones, regenerative capabilities, the ability to disappear, and above all, a planet destroying energy cannon, got destroyed by ONE FUCKING FIGHTER PLANE? YOU’RE FIRED! Controller: Well it’s not my damn fault that in order to generate the tentacles I had to open the armor plating which directly exposed the energy balls which fed the core shield. I tried evasive maneuvers right before they destroyed the shield but your engineers in all their infinite wisdom didn’t plan on that, nor had a contingency in place to defend it. But whatever dude. Your boss is a psychotic giant dismembered monkey head whose hell bent on conquering the Lylat system even though he’s failed miserably at every turn anyway so peace. I’m out.
"GREAT FOX WILL COVER YOU." Most satisfying thing to hear, and a clear explanation for why you need to defend the ship during Sector Z. Great Fox is in no condition to storm the formations with a busted wing and major hull damage.
From Sector Z Route: "What happened to the ambush in Sector Z?" "They destroyed all of the carrier missiles Sir!" "WHAT?!" From McBeth Route: "What happened to our Munitions supplies? We barely have enough to hold off against them!" "They destroyed the entire Fuel Bunker and Factory, Sir! We don't have enough firepower to hold off the assault!" "WHAT?!"
@@Whitesnake273Well not only did the fuel bunker get destroyed but the means of transporting resources also got destroyed aka the Train. The entire factory became rendered useless after the assault from the Starfox team.

Even when I can go to Sector Z, I tend to pick Macbeth anyway as I want to cripple Andross supply wise plus it's most satisfying to destroy his supply base then to merely survive an ambush with missiles with the Great Fox intact.
I've always loved how EVERYONE gets involved here. It's madness all the way to the end, as ROB64 joins in, Andross threatens you, and Caiman and the other guy are panicking, throwing everything at you. It's easily my favourite level in the game.
Starfox 3d was a GREAT remake but I wish they kept the noise the satellites make when you shoot them down in the n64 version. Electric crackling noise isn't nearly as cool as the DHUNK DHUNK DHUNK noises they did in 64
This stage was a huge gauntlet on my first playthrough. Peppy was downed after I finished Sector Z, but that's not all. Just after breaching the second line, Slippy was shot down, meaning I had no health bar on the Gorgon boss despite me memorizing the attack pattern. After the level, it was just me and Falco left to defeat Star Wolf and Andross once and for all!
Damn, the explosion of the boss once you beat it in this is not nearly as satisfying as in the N64 version. In the N64 version, it goes all the way back to the horizon, and then a beam of light comes out from it that creates a blinding blue-white explosion that makes the entire screen go white for a few seconds before it fades to the victory screen. Here it sort of just explodes and the camera just pans to the victory screen, not nearly as epic.
It does happen all the time when Slippy died in this level when the butterfly shaped enemy fighter is chasing Slippy. It is possible to stagger the enemy so Slippy can loop around to dodge the enemy's shot and Slippy be behind the butterfly shaped enemy fighter and have a chance to shoot it down on its own. Slippy quoted, "Take that!" Maybe Slippy does learn this trick from Falco sometimes and it is possible. It does rarely happen to me when I played Star Fox 64 many years ago. Slippy does have some life gauge to spare.
Mega holy crap, that level took me a couple of attempts to get 400 or more hits for me to get a gold medal in score attack mode in this game, but I finally managed to get 405 hits. My right hand for pressing the A, B, and Y was getting tired from shooting down all the enemies that I had to pause the game for a few minutes to rest my hand. Geez, that is one extremely hard level and score to beat in score attack mode.
super late, but you dont actually have to mash to shoot fast. if you hold the fire button for a bit longer than a tap, it will automatically shoot about 3 or 4 shots rapidly before it starts charging, at which point you can untap and tap again. you want a rythym. not that that's actually what you really want to do for area 6 in the first place, because on this level for score attack you basically want to wipe out every squad with a charge shot in one go as you possibly can, it gives you double the points.
this level is no where near hard enough to prepare for the last level, both Star Wolf and the Brain are very hard and are the two hardest parts of the game, Aquas is otherwise the hardest place

The Star Wolf team is easy, just take out the ones chasing your teammates and all you need are your lasers, somersault once you realize one of them is attacking you, rinse & repeat. Nothing to it. The Brain is easy too, keep moving, attack the cerebellum and never, EVER get close enough to get sucked in and lose your wings.
This level as a kid was as hard as Aquas, maybe even harder, and even if I completed it, Slippy and Peppy always died on me which meant not having them against star wolf
This game looks amazing on 3ds. If only the screen were bigger. I would pay a shit load of money to be able to play this with these updated graphics on the tv. Music doesn't sound as good though.
Tbh I don't like the voice acting in this game one bit. In this version, Pepper's VA sounds like he's simply reading the line. In the N64 version, he sounded so relieved that the war is nearing its end. That's just two of the voice acting issues this game has. Other than that, the remake seems just fine.
@@codyknight3580 I personally think it was a direction issue. The actors often sound like they're trying to match the original delivery exactly, but not all the time. From there it fluctuates between good and just bored. These same actors sound way more comfortable in Star Fox Zero.
Looking back on this stage-the N64 version in my case-I know now that the Starfox team would more than mop the floor with a few Imperial Star Destroyers. And TIE Fighters? Falco would simply ask ROB to hack their comms and taunt them with something like this: “Is that the best you Imps can do?”
The sad part about this is that they got the ORIGINAL VOICE ACTORS to redo all the voicelines in the 3d remake. I didn't think decades later they would sound worse.
I literally have been mumbling this to myself for a month or two now. The best example in this video is at the beginning, Pepper just sounds like he's reading a script in this version, whereas the original sounded like he was relieved that the war was almost over. There are more voice acting issues than that, but too many to point out
I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks that the voice acting is really bad in this game honestly it just kills the epicness of most of the stages why couldn’t they just use the original voice actors?
