I'm in my first year of an Environmental Health Practitioner degree and I heard you mention Mendeley in another video. I immediately looked it up (last night) and had a little practice session on it. It's amazing! I didn't know these things existed, so thank you SO MUCH for sharing your skills and knowledge. Really appreciated :)
Your timing is impeccable! I have an assignment due next Thursday and all I have left to complete are the references (my least favourite part) . Thank you!!!
I love your videos - so helpful and to the point! While I also really like Mendeley, I started using it after it had been recommended by one of my supervisors for my final year project/thesis BUT just a heads up for those first timers, if importing a large number of research papers: 1.) you need to allow time for the sync to occur (especially if dealing with poor internet ot you may need to try several times), which brings me to heads up part 2.) if you are using Mendeley to screen your papers and are organising sources into folders while deleting duplicates/irrelevant (or if like me you thought a bunch of papers hadn't imported due to internet so repeated the import process x6 before realising a day later and several additional lit search result imports from other databases later), all papers added within a week or so, will still remain in the 'recently added' folder even after being organised into specific folders or in the deleted folder. So, don't do as I did and 'select all' (of x6 duplicates) in 'recently added' to be moved to the 'deleted folder' rather than sifting through the several hundred duplicates for systematic review to be selected individually for deletion before selecting all in the 'deleted folder' to 'permanantly delete' after finding that they're still in recently added....only to realise that you have now, not only deleted all duplicates but also, all of your screened, organised, annotated and reviewed lit search results that were in their relevant folders (and the main bulk of my thesis ready to be transfered into the document for formatting) as they had also remained in the 'recently added' folder therefore, had been moved to the 'delete all' folder, which I had now just permantly deleted...1 week before the initial deadline and 10 days before the final/hard deadline and ended up having to repeat 4th/final year because my request for an extension to the hard deadline was denied. And yes, I know you need to have multiple back ups, I had, until my laptop crashed (poor thing was under pressure), along with a sync issue with the uni microsoft office cloud system and the onedrive for mac desktop app (bane of my life) that resulted in losing an entire year of notes/write ups so I thought 'a reference manager system that I can use on a web browser AND desktop app - I won't have to worry about losing work in the event my little laptop can't handle to pressure and packs it in for good.' To summarise - don't add a hundred papers at a time, especially if you have crap wifi; recently added papers will remain in recently added even when moved to the 'deleted' or any other folders you create; hardcopy, softcopy, offline and cloud back ups.
I searched for reference organizers after submitting a 15 page paper last night. I spent ridiculous amount of time on the references, some were hand written and not consistent in style etc. Now I’m considering downloading every single study I come across to a reference organizer, and writing a quick summary of them on Notion. And when I read books, I take notes WITH ACCURATE PAGE NUMBERS and save them in the same place. So when I’m writing I’m not like ”I know this fact because I read somewhere” and then spend 2 hours finding the proper study/book/page!
So so happy I found this today as I begin to write my literature review for my history MA. Thank you thank you for sharing this and sharing your journey. To anyone using a Mac book, did the Mendeley Web importer extension require you to change your safari preferences? I have that pop up but it says "this extension can read and alter web pages you visit and see your browsing history on all websites. This includes sensitive information from web pages, including passwords, phone numbers and credit cards"
Thanks for making this video very clear. Assuming i have multiple papers and want to create different folders for different papers, how do I go about it?
I have been struggling with Mendeley for a month now. There is no option "create folder" or "my Library" . What stupid mistake am I making? So frustrating!
It's not only you Kristine. I can't find them either. Was just about to download Mendeley Cite and noticed the reviews were... interesting! I don't want to be so quick to condemn it, but it may be that Mendeley has peaked and had its day since Dr Amina posted this video.
@@OlaOverflow Okee Ola, so I finally found it. The word "folders" is mentioned no where in my version. What is mentioned is "collections". So you click on "new collection" fill in the name of your "folder" and press enter. For the rest it's the same as everyone is explaining only not "folder" but "new collections"!
One thing will you tell me after uploading PDFs in mendeley reference manager, I do mendeley cite in ms word. Unfortunately, none of pdf was being shown by mendeley cite in ms word. Why is it happening? I am not able to cite even. I am using up-to-date version. 😢 Guide me.
I am so glad that i found you Dr Amina..A mature level 7 student coming from prehistoric age :-) with minimal computer skills or rather nervous with technology, can i ask- if i change the order of reference, will Mendeley reference will change the order too?/ realy so so glad.
Hi Dr Aamina Thanks for sharing and recognising and attending to the needs of others; only noble people do this; so Kudos again Totally agree I couldn’t publish my papers without Mendeley - it’s free and good software By the way what was your PhD topic Cause I am in the process of doing one at imperial may be? and need a bit of guidance Mature student/struggler with technology and full time working so lot of juggling and in need of any help I can get I am clinical scientist with FRCPATH Part 1 so need to do PhD for improving credentials and career progression
Hi am porkizhi, ph student I hope you are doing well. I have a doubt about Mendeley software. The correct citation style has been chosen and updated. But surprisingly, the citation style does not match the original journal style. So, I tried to customize the style; for that, it needs the URL of an example article that is " Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B." But I have tried so many times with different links and styles, and still, it's not working and showing that the URL is malformed or Enter a valid URL. Since my paper has 161 references at this point, I can't shift to some other citation software like EndNote or others. Do you have any idea?
Thank you really, I find your posts simple to understand and valuable. Please help me here? Have you got any post on Harvard referencing.im on the 2nd year uni n I find referencing an enigma? Really how, alphabetical or not, I think the covid era and online learning has not done me good...please help?...
hellow D.r i am yohanes from Ethiopia can i send the paper i write please cheek it and tell me some some advise. my english is poor. i hope you help me. thank you.

Oh so with Mendeley you can take notes too? That’s handy!
power of Internet at its best. Great work
I'm glad I found Mendeley through you and more importantly that I found your channel. I am so subscribing!
I appreciate you Dr amina l can't measure how well you helped me sis
Impeccable timing in deed. Thank you very much Amina . my assignment is due in December and was wondering how to manage my references.
Amazing! This is by far the easiest way.
Thanks Dr.Yonis for this elaborate explanation
Mendeley is so easy to use and they are free too!

Thank you for this. Im starting kinda late. Phd candidate here. 3rd year going on to 4th. I've been doing it manually all of this time (crying emojii)
Aw! Glad you know better now :)
Quite informative. Thanks Doc!
I,m struggling - mendeley hasnt put it in my bibliography properly... its not listing al authors, I can't seem to change it :(
Can you help?
جزاك الله خير، ورمضان مبارك
JazakiAllaho khayran
That’s very helpful, thank you so much.
Thanks, Dr.Amina
Please can it do only intext citations, what about citations for beginning sentences which need not to be bracketed
Does mendeley categorize your resources? E.g books, journals etc
Also, can input my list of references and it aids in turning it into a bibliography?
Very helpful video! Thank you!

Thank you! can you do references for websites (e.g. CRUK) that dont have papers on Mendeley?
I understand you didn't study law, but can you recommend any software for oscula referencing?

Thanks for sharing and recognising and attending to the needs of others; only noble people do this; so Kudos again

What do u think of zotero, it’s similar to menedely
Useful
Thanks
Have you used Zotero?
I actually haven’t! Mendeley was perfect so didn’t have the need to try another ref manager.
@@DrAminaYonis I must try Mendeley ASAP!
