One additional note for the mech change. Before the patch, if your helldiver stood next to another player who was in their mech, enemies would ignore them and gun straight for you. I believe the change in this patch makes it so that enemies will target players who are in the mechs (and not just friendlies on foot).
only was before update. The range nerf hits harder than the stagger buffs it. Hunters now jump from outside your range sometimes, and many automatons will be shooting outside your range as well. If you're bringing it for hulks/berzerkers there's better options. Plus with it's tendency to fizzle and not shoot combined with it's much slower charging speed, any time it happens you're at risk of being swarmed
For the AMR, its not for solo runners, if you have it on one guy in a team and he sits back and targets the big things it's strong as fuck. Definitely S tier team weapon. Most everything else you said I agree with. I have one friend who is obsessed with two manning the recoilless but nobody likes being the reloader so he is using this buff as an excuse to beg us again
The same is true for the Laser Cannon though, but it has infinite ammo. It annihilates Gunships, Devastators and small fry but can also kill Hulks, Tanks, Turrets, and Mortars extremely fast with access to their weakspots It has more than a little overlap with the AMR, with effective range up to 200 meters. 200 meters is a huge distance in this game. Only thing it can’t do is kill drop-ships, which the AMR can’t do either (if I’m remembering right)
HMG is designed to take on medium enemies (Hive Guard, Brood Commander, Devestators, etc), not small fry or heavies. Best used as a reaction weapon: whip it out when you need to kill Mediums quickly, use your primary for the small fry, strategems for heavies.
Re: Recoilless and Spear Recoilless fires faster, and that's the tradeoff. In an Exterminate mission when 3 dropships are flying at you at a time every couple seconds, it can keep up where the Quasar cannot. Spear lock-on also appears to work better based on the host. I have a friend who swears by the Spear, and he's often hosting. I have tried testing it hosting myself and using it with randoms in QP, and while the Spear is almost always inconsistent, it's noticeably less so when you're the host.
recoiless outshoots quaser until you get a second quaser. not as useful on the exterminate/extract missions but if you're holding a point then you get unlimited shots every 5 seconds or so
HMG is a mixed bag with potential: -It can kill anything with in seconds at high rpm (Biles Titan's back sack, Hulk's red eye, chargers back, etc.). -Recoil sucks, but turning it down to the low rpm 450, your shots are more accurate and save ammo. -Setting the gun to higher rpm for close targets will delete them -Supply Backpack is almost required to compensate the short magazine -It has higher penetration than the MG and stalwart (neither can penatrate the red eye of hulks) -like the autocannon, it reloads faster if you don't empty the magazine -It one or two patches away from being "A" tier gun (fix the misaligned sight, reduce the recoil even more when crouched/prone, Give it a third person reticle, increase the magazine or give it one huge magazine (400-500 bullets))
One big advantage to me that the AMR has over the quasar is speed. Not only does it not need a charge up, but it also doesn't have a CD. I would rather have my AMR if I see multiple hulks and tanks. Also, AMR can also be used to take out any devastators giving you problems in the same breath.
THANK YOU!!! for finally talking about the sniper ergonomics! it's the most fun aspect of sniper play, quick-sniping! it's the one thing in a FPS that if I pull off quickly I push my seat back and fist pump. Good balance proofs although there are certain meta loadouts, the grand majority of them are viable save very few exceptions. Good work from the Helldivers 2 dev team.
With these two changes the Anti-Material rifle would be perfect: - More magazines with boxes of ammo and supplies. Only 1 and 3, it is not enough that there are 2 and 4. - Fix the sight.
There is a scoped mouse sensitivity in the menu that makes the AMR very snappy when turned up. Granted on M+KB you have to turn off acceleration, and smoothing or it will feel awful. I have a mouse button to also change dpi when using the sniper. When you take the time to get the setting spot on it makes a world of difference.
Ill be honest the only issue i have with high level automatons is fire damage. If you get blasted close range dying quick makes sense. But if you barely get touched you burn to death faster than you can stim or dive. Especially if youre not high enough level to have the shield backpack
HMG is good for things like chargers or splat bugs, cause the AP is actually in the medium range and should be doing full damage to those. It's more like a fast firing autocannon than a machine gun though, it definitely takes practice getting used to as it's vastly different in role and concept from say the Stalwart. Take it with a supply pack to alleviate the awful magazine size, and also bring a primary for chaff clearing as that is NOT what its for.
RIP Slugger. It wasn't just a great gun it was terrific fun to use as well. There are plenty of 'strong' picks I don't drop with simply because they don't feel good to use. There was a time I'd never use the Ballistic Shield but it's definitely fun rolling with it and the revolver and living some point man fantasy. (I typically get fewer kills than everyone else but it's still fun "distracting" the bots.)
I like the AMR just because its much faster than the other heavy support weapons but still packs a pretty good punch while also having a reasonable amount of ammo and fast reload. Granted I'm not a top tier player, but I've had pretty good success even with randos. If you're approaching an outpost with at least one other person you can just hang back and find a good sniping spot while the others go in. I think its much better against bots because they have pretty obvious weak spots that you can hit from the front, against the bugs I feel like its pretty useless. The sights are weird though. I find I actually have to aim down slightly, even when shooting stuff almost on the edge of my vision. If you're far enough away and you aim for the chest you'll hit the head instead.

Guard Dog has to reload so much because it's killing so many enemies. If the game had a breakdown of what your kills came from people would actually be shocked by what they see. Just need to remember to call in ressuplies on cooldown and get one of them.
You still drop the shield if you enter a falling state. So if you get sent flying from a rocket for long enough youll drop it. If you fall off a ledge and stumble youll drop it. Still a vast improvement to the shield though.
for the HMG, i say keep the 75 rounds, give it +4 reloads, keep the recoil, mobile reload, and either high penetration or incendiary ammo. it could be a big box magazine to facilitate the mobile reload. even 50 rounds with +5 reloads would be ok, though you'd be out 50 rounds compared to 75 and +4
Ballistic shield can even block Shredder tank bullets The build i ran against bots was pretty fun: Heavy Armor + Ballistic shield + defender (light pen) + Senator (medium pen) + Quasar (Heavy) + stun grenades I hope the grenade pistol in the next warbond will be a great alternative to the senator
Never run the ballistic shield, get more damage, use the auto cannon vs bots, it kills all of them, but the huge walker. My load out vs bots is EMS motor, auto cannon, eagle air strike and 500 kg bomb, you can trade out the 500 kg bomb for the 380 for huge bases clear if needed. Run Heavy armor with that sweet 50% explosive resist. And you can deal with anything. But lets be honest, the beset fight is one avoided. Running away and letting them despawn is an option.
I think if they give the AMR a crosshair but make it bigger then the normal crosshair (like the Quazar canons crosshair when uncharged) it would make it so much more viable and playable
I do think they nerfed the slugger a little too much. A slug shotgun isn’t going to blow open a shipping container but punch holes in it. I think the range should have been slightly shortened and I think that’s it. It should be a close quarters combat weapon.
I still run recoilless against bugs for the quick headshot on chargers and titans, quasar cannon still better for bots because i have time to charge it up
I feel like too many people still sleep on rocket pods and yeah like railgun will 1 bang a charger but it won’t do that to a bile titan and id rather take something that does a little less damage but has 3 uses with a comparable cooldown, and rocket pods have some AOE it won’t happen often but in a recent case I got 26 kills with a single use
Spear is a joke. You need two or three shots to destroy a tank and you only have four or so on you. The lock on isnt even the problem. It just needs to do some damage. So you have a backpack slot gone aswell and its prettymuzch good for a single tank only.
The guard dog is very very fast to kill bots. In the last days I'm running with Jar 15, revolver, guard dog, and raillgun. Very funny very effective against bots but man if is ammo hungry.
I love the AMR vs the bots it is my favs. I am fire with the bad ergonomics i don't want this to be a COD clone... But the sights are literal trash. A sniper rifle needs good sights that are accurate to where your shot is landing.
Fast reload with a good team, quasar can hit one drop ship but not the second. Recoilless will take out both. Just need to get people that want to work together.

I would like to see more people pushing team composition. I understand it's hard for a lot of people when playing with randoms, but there are a lot of people that play with buddies. Coming up with new ideas and things that previous people didn't think of would be great verses the typical meta builds. I understand why people talk about "meta". A lot of people are playing by themselves and joining randoms. Then I feel that meta has a place. But more people can talk about stuff in lobbies, use discord, and try and find fun ways to work together to play it a bit different. Changing stuff up, and fucking with new load outs and making it work is what is going to help bring more longevity to the game and give you more bang for your buck. Quasar by yourself is better than recoilless. Recoilless with a buddy slaps quasar. I would just like to see more people fuck with teams more. But at the end of the day, play it how you want to. Your game.

I actually like the Dominator over the scorcher because it is great against dominators and the chainsaw dudes.
They made armors with arc damage resistance, now they need to make some with fire resistance

The walkers have a soft spot on the crotch, but taking it down like that keeps the rider alive.
The lock-on is definitely an issue, but I run the spear a lot on bots to save myself a lot of hassle woth fabricators, especially solo.
The host tick dmg is not a bug. I’ve played plenty of quick matches and killed plenty of enemies using dot dmg from fire

Meta? We’re playing week 8 of this title. Keep that in mind, issues are gonna be issues, the amount of players have stressed the servers as well as the developers. I think it’s premature to assume “new meta”. But yea, thanks for the click bate…. It seemed to have worked as intended imo.
