    A tip from a Carpenter. Alway predrill holes for screws for finish projects. Especially if your drilling on the edge of board. I will also wax my longer screws using a block of wax.

    That amused me telling us how the rabbits loves laying on that metal floor 🤣 😆 whilst the rabbit was sat on the part that didn't allow its skin to go through. Maybe get you to lay down on that metal floor. Our rabbits run around our room with the dog. They are trained to go back in their cubby hole for the toilet tray. Apart from the hard poops got a handy vac hahaha

    Very nice. I keep mine in stacked cages in an attached garage too. It's nice not having to go out in the rain and snow to feed and water them. Your setup is awesome.

    Since you have this in the garage and using trays, Do the trays collecting waste give of a stronger odor? I’m considering keeping rabbits in my office but not sure whether to do trays or a sloped collection system.

    how many 2x4s and 2x2s do you need total for this project? and what size screws are you using for them? Thanks! (Also same question on your outdoor hutch)

    I suggest you paint your floor to prevent urine soaking in; i have the floor under my hutches painted with an oil based paint and i keep a mop and spin bucket with bleach water nearby all the time and quickly mop the wall or floor if urine gets on it. love the hook tip and the pine pellet idea

    Love that tip on using the eyelet to screw in the hook. Genius! I can use that on my chicken coops etc too. Are the pine pellets okay to add to the compost/garden? Are they treated in any way?

    • @TealStoneHomestead
      @TealStoneHomestead  2 роки тому +3

      Pine pellets are completely fine in compost! Use the VERY sparingly - they absorb and expand so much.

    How much apart on your hanging cages shelving bay

  • @WesternHeightsHomestead
    @WesternHeightsHomestead 2 роки тому

    As far as the casters. Take your scrap
    2 x 4’s and add to your bottom of your legs. Changing the 2 x 4 to a 4 x 4, that way when you get the four hole caster that way you’ll have a place to put four screws.

    Love this! Wondering if this could be done outside of a roof was added. I like the hanging cages. What size bowls/waterers do you have/recommend?

    • @TealStoneHomestead
      @TealStoneHomestead  2 роки тому +1

      This could absolutely be done outside. If you haven’t already, make sure to check out my big hutch video. You could easily convert that hutch to hang cages and have catch trays underneath 😊 my water bowls are 26oz.

      @@TealStoneHomestead thanks! Can’t wait to read the blog post. I love your outdoor hutch build and I’m trying to decide on what to build. My cages are only 2’ deep so I have to alter the design. I might just end up doing that. 🙈

    I've a question about breeding rabbits, if anyone here can answer. I've seen most of the rabbit farmers keep both male and female apart until they plan to breed them. I've german flamish giant rabbits (one pair) and i don't keep them in any cage, they move freely in home. How should i force them to breed?

  • @FarmGirlInProgress
    @FarmGirlInProgress 2 роки тому

    So, first things first! Your drill tip for the hooks, absolutely brilliant!!! Never would have thought of that!
    Second, a question. Do you ever have a problem with your bucks spraying?? I have one maybe two, bucks who literally spray EVERYTHING! So much so that they’re ruining their neighbors room and fur! Is there a way to fix this? Or am I doomed to have everything covered in rabbit pee constantly?? It’s it’s literally like 4+ feet in every direction 🤢

    • @TealStoneHomestead
      @TealStoneHomestead  2 роки тому +1

      The spraying thing is exactly why I chose to create a separate buck hutch. When the boys are around girls, they like to try and impress them with spraying. It’s disgusting 😂 a cheap way to fix this is to go to lowes or Home Depot and buy a roll of roofing flashing. You can cut however much you need and line the cage sides with it, then zip tie it on. This will keep their neighbors clean and it may stop them from spraying so much if they can’t actually see the does.

    • @FarmGirlInProgress
      @FarmGirlInProgress 2 роки тому

      @@TealStoneHomestead I figured that may have been why you did that! I may have to do it as well, our does are on the top row and the boys down below to hopefully minimize the spray radius lol. I don't think they can actually see the girls with them on the top row, but who knows. I'll give the lining a try and see if that helps until a separate hutch can be built... if anything it will keep the guys cleaner lol Thanks Tiffany!

    How do you get a buck that does not want to breed the does to breed them?

  • @PinkinPA
    @PinkinPA 2 роки тому

    I was told by another breeder that sore hocks are a genetic issue and not so much a wire floor issue. What is your opinion?

    • @TealStoneHomestead
      @TealStoneHomestead  2 роки тому

      It’s both. It can be genetics, but thin wire or dirty conditions can also cause it on the most well-furred rabbit.
