There’s Pandemic, and Pandemic In The Lab, and he mentions he has all the expansions. The first two expansions and the original game all fit in to a single In The Lab box, but I think the third expansion is likely his outlier to needing two boxes. But... who knows. What I expected: a walkthrough of breakdowns and observations of a list of games What I got: Quinn and Matt hanging out letting their passion do the talking
There's such a fun interplay between a somewhat famous personality and a personal collection on display in this video. Quinns' collection video was awesome too, don't get me wrong, but Quinns is kind of like if board game obsession was given a body and a bag full of witticisms, and then maybe too much caffeine. This video is like when someone is trying to engage you in a personal conversation at a party, but other people keep showing up and inviting themselves in and it just grows increasingly more crowded and codified. I really like it. Thanks you guys for doing these.
This is such weirdly enjoyable content! I really liked watching Quinns' game collection and I got unduly excited when this one popped up. I hope you find someone else's collection to rifle through so you can make more!
Not just out of print, it was an FFG game and they lost all of the Warhammer license, and given the current issues, I can't imagine them getting it back...
I don't know if this has already been suggested, or even if it's possible, but it would be nice if Paul could come back at some point in the future to do an encore video, showcasing his collection.
I figured it might have been a regional variation, but both Oxford and Cambridge English Dictionaries give it as /fiːf/ “feef”, not /faɪf/ “fife”, in BrE Fief actually has a really neat etymology: not only did French descend it from (a variation of) Lt _feudum,_ but Latin borrowed the word from French! Frankish _*fehu,_ meaning “livestock”, gave Old French _feu,_ which was borrowed into Latin as _feum_ or _*feuum_ > _fevum,_ which in turn descended back into Old French as _fief,_ devoicing the /v/ to /f/ and diphthongising /ε/ into /jε/ (which is how it’s still pronounced in French) The “d” in standard Lt _feudum_ (whence English “feudal”, but not English “feud”, which is related to the word “foe”) comes from the Frankish word _*ôd_ (whence also the “od” in “allodial”; there was probably a Frankish word _*fehu-ôd_ that influenced it), meaning “goods, possessions, livestock”, from Proto-Germanic _*audaz,_ whence Old English _ēad,_ which is the “Ed” in names like “Edward” and “Edgar” To complete the etymology, Frankish _*fehu_ is from Proto-Germanic _*fehu_ “livestock, property” (whence Old English _feoh_ “money” and, influenced by French _fief,_ Modern English “fee”), which is in turn from PIE _*péku_ (that “k” should be a palatovelar, but I don’t have access to that character rn; it becomes /s/ in satem languages like Sanskrit and /k/ in centum languages like Latin) whence Sanskrit _páśu_ “livestock”, Kurdish _pez_ “sheep”, and Latin _pecū_ “cattle” and _pecūnia_ “money”
That aspirational part really got me. I slowly found and purchased all the expansions for Mansions of Madness 1st edition, mostly because I was in love with the feeling the game gave me. In my group, it isn't usually the first choice for game night, and I really don't always enjoy setting it up when it does hit the table, but it is just one of those games that feels like it has so much potential, and enjoyment, just hiding beneath it's cardboard lid. Whenever I go to grab out Codenames, Betrayal, or even Twilight Imperium for our yearly weekend long extravaganza, I take a moment to pause, and marvel at what it could offer. What dark realms it could bring us to. I smile to myself, give it a pat to remind it the special place it holds in my heart, and close the cabinet doors once again. One day, you beautiful, heavy little box, one day.
Got Quacks recently (on yours and others glowing reviews) and played it with my 9yr old twins and halfway thru the first game we'd got it, after that the game starts to flow and future games can be quite fast paced. Currently playing it nearly every weekend (it's so much fun working on your own potion and no one gets upset that they aren't winning) and after 3 or 4 games on the starting set up weve moving onto the alternative ingredients you get in the box. Also got the expansion to allow grand parents to join in and it gives an extra couple of flavours to add to the base game that already offered 5? versions. A cracking game that every family will love and one that's probably going to get gifted to a few of our friends this year. PLUS the expansion fits nicely into the base game box without confusing anything (although I can't force myself to throw the empty expansion box away....)
Ah, Coup! I created over 70 roles for that game that I play with my friends. I even have plans to custom print a tarot deck with Coup roles on it. Good stuff...
Thank you for sharing your collection, Matt! I went to a nice little con in Vancouver last October and taught/played Tigris and Euphrates twice! Also played Samurai twice! I’ll let you know if the con happens again next year and perhaps, if you can swing it, you can attend. I think you’d quite like it ; ) At said con, I taught/played Quacks too many times to count. It’s great fun, especially with the BGG Geekbits, and especially after melting your brain with some tense Knizia. Cheers!

I decided to have a look for playmats since I've never heard of them being a thing, the first one to pop up was the exact same star wars one Matt has. I'm now feeling somewhat paranoid.
Just want to chime in that the Escape Room in a Box series are great! Werewolf is the best one I've played so far, they also have an 80's one (Flashback) that I'm looking forward to playing. It tickles the escape room nerve just enough. AND some of the components are reprintable, so once you've completed it you can pass it on to someone else enjoy!

god, i saw Cosmic Encounter in the wild at the Hairy Tarantula here in Toronto? On Boxing Day, and they had a pay by the pound sale on a selection of board games? 15 dollars for a complete copy of Cosmic Encounter. Thank god this channel made me want the game so badly that I apparently willed that bargain into existence
2:24 problem with putting Kemet expansions in the base game box according to the captions “yeah it’s all in one box but I just think you know it’s mixed the box uncaring up around a black guy”.
Literally the first time I've ever seen another copy of Not Alone. I got the opportunity to playtest it at GenCon with some of the team behind it, and knew then I would have to buy it. It's very good.
I've been enjoying Ganz Schön Clever by Wolfgang Warsch a lot. I think the English version is called Pretty Clever. A smart Roll & Write game, feels like bingo + yahtzee + excel :D
Oh, Matt, don't use rubberbands to keep the box lids shut... They perish over time and may become a sort of melted... tacky... crap. Grab yourself some cloth elastics instead. Those will last much longer and the boxes will slide when you push them onto the shelves. You could get them in different widths too... Also, maybe you could get another box for that cabinet; looks like it would fit up there. And that would mean..! You can have a(n even) bigger collection! Yaaay! Erhm, anyways, great collection! Some I love, some I don't love as much. Sherlock Holmes Consulting detective being my favorite. I just love everything about it. V-Commandos... I've played once or twice in the same day, and I kinda like the setting, but something didn't feel quite right to me. Can't remember what or why, but it left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth. Figuratively speaking of course. I... don't eat... most of my games.
Hi, taken me a while to watch this so this is possible a little late but.... You can very definitely fit the Bärenpark expansion in the original box. Mine is in the original box, its in baggies and the monorails aren't flattened!
I still have my Imperial Assault set and I probably haven't opened it except to test the app for about 4 years. I occassionally look at it and think about getting rid of it but I just can't bring myself to do it. I might try and cram more stuff into the box though just to save some space.
BludRayp - Twixt; Sheriff of Nottingham; Citadels; Sushi-Go; Settlers of Catan; Love Letter; Guillotine; Ticket to Ride; Small World; Exploding Kittens; Two Rooms and a Boom. Just to name a few that friends, family and I enjoy.
Anyone else got the feeling that the grey cubes actually look more like a games fridge? My mind kept screaming for Matt to close the fridge until I actually managed to remind myself it was just a shelf.
You said the art for ultimate werewolf. I agree but I play it with my 5 year old cousins and they just love the art. So does my 3 year old cousin who just likes looking at the werewolves and says “ oh so scary so scary”
I was waiting for this vid for some time, great to see what you hold dear and what you play most often doesn't always clash. I feel the same way about certain historical heavy wargames, I want to keep it because it brings me joy, then again, where do I find the people to spend 10 hours with me on some arcane shit they aren't even interested in. Same for Dune. Still in the shrink, loved the old one, no people to play the new one with right now. Hey Matt, I hope your wife's doing well. Cheers!
At first I was surprised that my collection is larger than Matt's, then I remembered how small my own book collection is because I work in a library.
Yeah, as a librarian, I buy a LOT less books. As a board gamer, I'm the primary person getting games for our group, so I end up getting a lot of them.

8:04 It’s been 4 and a half years and Quinns still insists on pronouncing it “fife” instead of “feef”
@M A Speaking as a native British English speaker, I've never met anyone who says it as in "fife".
I figured it might have been a regional variation, but both Oxford and Cambridge English Dictionaries give it as /fiːf/ “feef”, not /faɪf/ “fife”, in BrE
Fief actually has a really neat etymology: not only did French descend it from (a variation of) Lt _feudum,_ but Latin borrowed the word from French!
Frankish _*fehu,_ meaning “livestock”, gave Old French _feu,_ which was borrowed into Latin as _feum_ or _*feuum_ > _fevum,_ which in turn descended back into Old French as _fief,_ devoicing the /v/ to /f/ and diphthongising /ε/ into /jε/ (which is how it’s still pronounced in French)
The “d” in standard Lt _feudum_ (whence English “feudal”, but not English “feud”, which is related to the word “foe”) comes from the Frankish word _*ôd_ (whence also the “od” in “allodial”; there was probably a Frankish word _*fehu-ôd_ that influenced it), meaning “goods, possessions, livestock”, from Proto-Germanic _*audaz,_ whence Old English _ēad,_ which is the “Ed” in names like “Edward” and “Edgar”
To complete the etymology, Frankish _*fehu_ is from Proto-Germanic _*fehu_ “livestock, property” (whence Old English _feoh_ “money” and, influenced by French _fief,_ Modern English “fee”), which is in turn from PIE _*péku_ (that “k” should be a palatovelar, but I don’t have access to that character rn; it becomes /s/ in satem languages like Sanskrit and /k/ in centum languages like Latin) whence Sanskrit _páśu_ “livestock”, Kurdish _pez_ “sheep”, and Latin _pecū_ “cattle” and _pecūnia_ “money”

On Boxing Day, and they had a pay by the pound sale on a selection of board games? 15 dollars for a complete copy of Cosmic Encounter. Thank god this channel made me want the game so badly that I apparently willed that bargain into existence
Depending on the game selection, that is an amazing sale!
I put Fish in a cutdown pringles tube and glued the box art to it.
Would love to see you guys review some Tiny EPIC games. (Love Quest and Galaxies)
V Commandos is kind of a grail game for me at this point so if you resolve to get rid of it I would happily take it
2:24 problem with putting Kemet expansions in the base game box according to the captions “yeah it’s all in one box but I just think you know it’s mixed the box uncaring up around a black guy”.
Literally the first time I've ever seen another copy of Not Alone. I got the opportunity to playtest it at GenCon with some of the team behind it, and knew then I would have to buy it. It's very good.
is it just me or is matt's hair looking extra majestic in this episode
The fact that he has the exact same star wars mat as me and also uses it for all board games is just scary.
Your comments and viewpoints are great. Thank you!
I've been enjoying Ganz Schön Clever by Wolfgang Warsch a lot. I think the English version is called Pretty Clever. A smart Roll & Write game, feels like bingo + yahtzee + excel :D
Now we just need Paul's collection then the legendary trio is complete (:
Paul was always closest to my ways, broken heart.
Truly disappointed that I didn't get to see pandemic legacy season 2 go into the bin
Whoa I'm here early. Nice to see a compilation of Matt's recommended games after the huge one last time.
The older I get, the simple, elegant games are the ones I play and enjoy the most.
what kinds of games do you find to be like that?
BludRayp - Twixt; Sheriff of Nottingham; Citadels; Sushi-Go; Settlers of Catan; Love Letter; Guillotine; Ticket to Ride; Small World; Exploding Kittens; Two Rooms and a Boom. Just to name a few that friends, family and I enjoy.
Can we get a redo of that but it’s Quinns acting like it’s his collection?
Anyone else got the feeling that the grey cubes actually look more like a games fridge?
My mind kept screaming for Matt to close the fridge until I actually managed to remind myself it was just a shelf.
When it comes to Arctic scavengers, put the cardboard bits under the plastic tray and it avoids the cards going everywhere.
Would love to see a Hellboy video! It has become the go-to favourite of my group.
I need a friend like Matt
Avalon is such a fantastic party game. I'm Afghanistan, we used it to get to know each other better. 8-9 players make for the best games
You said the art for ultimate werewolf. I agree but I play it with my 5 year old cousins and they just love the art. So does my 3 year old cousin who just likes looking at the werewolves and says “ oh so scary so scary”
Ooof, I’m glad I’m not the only one who still has the 2 expansions from V-Commandos in shrinkwrap...
Cheers!
