How to Replace a Glass Window Pane (Aluminum Frame)

  • I have been wanting to replace this window for quite some time, but I haven't taken the time to order the new piece of glass. After breaking a different window trying to swat a fly (yeah... you heard me. lol) I decided to go ahead and get the extra pane of glass and replace this one as well. All of the information in this video (including materials) were recommendations of a professional glass installer. As long as you have a good grip on the glass and you're strong enough to lift and manipulate the pane, it should be an easy/straightforward process. I hope this video is helpful for you! If you have any questions, feel free to drop a comment. Peace and God bless!

    Glad I found you.
    The glass broke in our window in our old house, and the window has this groove inside the wood for the glass.
    I purchased plexiglass to replace the window glass, and I've cleaned out any caulk. Probably should use alcohol and soap as well.

      You should probably put actual glass back in… our plexiglass made noise wobbling back and forth when doors opened/closed in the house.😆

    I was able to buy the vinyl glazing at Ace hardware. I could only find it at Home Depot or Lowes in expensive bulk packages that seem meant for a whole house.

      Nice! Many glass suppliers will carry a few types, but the older the window the more difficult it is to find the right kind.👍

    I'll go for plexiglass then. Seems to be much easier and safer to install. :)

      @rutterrealtygc i was just about to ask why you didnt like it. Since plexi tends to be the more expensive choice.

    My window is two sections pane, old apartment window style, the opening section has the internal spring assist. Looks like tabs and metal stip separate the horizontal middle area. Please make a video to show this.

    Rubbing alcohol works for cleaning the glass and evaporates itself leaving no residue 😉

    Is there anyway to remove the plexiglass pane without braking it? Mine looks good but seems like the caulk is beyond its life and it has a small leak through it. I am planning just to remove the panel, remove old calking and putting the panel back with new caulk. it is possible?

    • @rutterrealtygc
      @rutterrealtygc  28 днів тому

      Plexiglass is not the same as glass… is it glass or plexiglass? It would probably be easier to just caulk where there is a leak.
      You might be able to get it out without breaking it if you are very careful.

    • @rutterrealtygc

      Just do a quick web search for your local glass companies. They should be able to cut the glass for you and also give you an install quote as well (if you didn’t want to do it yourself).

    • @rutterrealtygc

      The rubber stays in, yes. You would measure the frame that the glass is going within once the glazing is removed ( I don’t know if that’s any clearer ).🤷‍♂️

    • @rutterrealtygc

    Quick question! Is the process the same if it's the upper stationary pane? And do the pieces always fit in from the outside? Second story window 😮‍💨

    • @rutterrealtygc
      @rutterrealtygc  9 місяців тому

      Without seeing the window, there’s no way that I can know. Typically, if it is a single pane glass window and you can see the glazing on the outside of the window, then the glass will go in from the outside. You can always contact and licensed and insured contractor to be sure! 👍😃

    Also, which type of glass is better to use?

    • @rutterrealtygc
      @rutterrealtygc  Рік тому

      There are several different types of glass. I think "best practice" is to use tempered glass or laminated glass if the window is below a certain height (I think it is if it is less than 18" off the floor, where a child might hit it or fall through), which will lessen the chance of injury. Definitely contact a licensed and insured contractor though to make sure.
