      What he didn't show was how difficult it is to get that white plastic GLAZING strip out, after yr's and yr's they have to be dough out as they are brittle and the remaining glass is glued to the inside of the aluminum frame and the glass doesn't bend like the plexiglas window he showed did and unfortunately these window panes can't be taken out of the frame to be worked on so the glass must be taken out in place and in pieces . then you have to deal with the glass that's remaining that is stuck/glued to the frame and that has to be dough out and or scraped out. REMEMBER ALWAYS wear good "full coverage eye protection", something that coververs your eyes from every side so there no chance of getting a sliver in there cause getting a sliver of glass in your eye will be extremely damaging to your eyeball and possibly life changing.

    Glad I found you.
    The glass broke in our window in our old house, and the window has this groove inside the wood for the glass.
    I purchased plexiglass to replace the window glass, and I've cleaned out any caulk. Probably should use alcohol and soap as well.

    • @rutterrealtygc

      You should probably put actual glass back in… our plexiglass made noise wobbling back and forth when doors opened/closed in the house.😆

    I was able to buy the vinyl glazing at Ace hardware. I could only find it at Home Depot or Lowes in expensive bulk packages that seem meant for a whole house.

    What did you press the glass up against to keep it centered? Was it the caulk? What keeps the glass from just tilting to one side while the caulk dries?

    • @rutterrealtygc
      @rutterrealtygc  3 місяці тому

      It is resting on the two rubber pieces and should be level. The caulk should hold the glass to the frame after it is pressed into the caulk. The caulk “glazing” should help hold it in place too.

  • @cdhn2009
    @cdhn2009 5 місяців тому +1

    Is there anyway to remove the plexiglass pane without braking it? Mine looks good but seems like the caulk is beyond its life and it has a small leak through it. I am planning just to remove the panel, remove old calking and putting the panel back with new caulk. it is possible?

    • @rutterrealtygc
      @rutterrealtygc  5 місяців тому

      Plexiglass is not the same as glass… is it glass or plexiglass? It would probably be easier to just caulk where there is a leak.
      You might be able to get it out without breaking it if you are very careful.

    Where do I measure it from? To see what size glass I need. And did the rubber things stay in the bottom the whole time?

    • @rutterrealtygc
      @rutterrealtygc  7 місяців тому

      The rubber stays in, yes. You would measure the frame that the glass is going within once the glazing is removed ( I don’t know if that’s any clearer ).🤷‍♂️

      @rutterrealtygc  Рік тому +3

  • @GlamGoreChaosQueen

    Quick question! Is the process the same if it's the upper stationary pane? And do the pieces always fit in from the outside? Second story window 😮‍💨

    • @rutterrealtygc
      @rutterrealtygc  Рік тому

      Without seeing the window, there’s no way that I can know. Typically, if it is a single pane glass window and you can see the glazing on the outside of the window, then the glass will go in from the outside. You can always contact and licensed and insured contractor to be sure! 👍😃

    Also, which type of glass is better to use?

    • @rutterrealtygc
      @rutterrealtygc  Рік тому

      There are several different types of glass. I think "best practice" is to use tempered glass or laminated glass if the window is below a certain height (I think it is if it is less than 18" off the floor, where a child might hit it or fall through), which will lessen the chance of injury. Definitely contact a licensed and insured contractor though to make sure.
