If you're anemic, you should get your Ferritin tested. I used to have extreme low ferritin (iron stores in the body), which causes all sorts of problems. I got this fixed by getting a couple doses of IV iron and I felt worlds apart after I had had the iron. Very much recommend!
Regular iron supplmements basically did nothing for me expect make my stomach hurt.. absorption is individual though so trying that first I guess should be the first option, but just a heads up that you can also get it IV.
FYI: the “normal ranges” that most labs and doctors adhere to for Ferritin are based on population averages, not on ideal values. Which means many people with low ferritin I.e. low iron stores go unnoticed and thus untreated. A good ferritin value is somewhere between 60-130, or even higher. For example, there’s some research that shows hair starts thinning at values below 70. Most doctors will act like 20-30-40 are still fine and normal - but it’s definitely not ideal.
