  • Knowing how to change direction, as the Wind and Water do when they encounter an obstacle, is a fundamental concept of Chinese Martial Arts. In the second circle of Bagua Zhang, the Hawk circle, there are many examples of this concept. It also has some similarities with Shuai Jiao, the traditional Chinese wrestling.

Other martial artists often only have a arrogant smile for Bagua. Thank you for this explanation

Once again proving that shuai jiao was never meant to be separated from Chinese martial arts. Thank you!

Another great demonstration and explanation of applications! Thank you so much for your continued contributions on UA-cam; and, most importantly, your lifelong support of traditional Chinese martial arts.

Once again Bagua proves itself to be a grappling art. If grapplers actually paid attention to Bagua they could open some new doors.

Pushing the back and rotating the chin is a very effective take down, I also found if you run your back push mid back and run your hand down the spine it makes the take down even easier. thank you for a Great BaGua video, Master Basili!

Dante it is awesome demonstration. As always. I had so many problems finding a defense move against this chin and lower back squeezing technique when one of my teachers used it years ago on me. In the beginning I found the best defense to be to simply push away the hand from the chin. But today, most of the times when this move is used on me I counter it with a hipthrow because usually I am attacked with this move after I try to off balance someone by pulling him and my spine is thus pulling backwards. Other effective move I found is to grab the hand on the chin and pull it backwards. This move is very very dangerous. It is forbidden in all grappling and mma competitions as it is the usual counter to back suplex. My respect for showing this dangerous self defense technique.

And here I had been so proud of 'inventing' this reversal, working from a background in Aikido, Judo, and pass-along Kung-Fu ... I wish I had grown up in a community with a Bagua school. The more I see, the more it seems like one of the key arts, covering principles which are ignored by many other styles.
As always, thank you for the beautiful and clear demonstration. I love how you focus on just one or two very key points, or principles, in so many of your videos... and then demonstrate and explain those points thoroughly, clearly, and efficiently... including with variations. The camera work and editing are excellent as well, and make the video even more useful.
