Is The FUTURE Of LAWN CARE In These Plots??

- These test plots are something that I have wanted to work on for a long time.
Drought resistance and water conservation are big terms in the lawn care world and it appears that will be the case for many years to come. I am doing some drought testing plots to look at how quickly things go dormant, how they survive mid summer and what recovery looks like in the fall. I also give you a few final looks at our current house and also update you on the dense shade testing.

I sure hope your warm season plots for next year will be heavy on Buffalograss- I'd love to have you on board with that type in the coming years. So much heat and drought in this country these days that we need people like you promoting its use when and where appropriate. Keep up the great work you do Ryan! ✌️
What do we think about Texas bluegrass “Solar Green mix” from Jonathan Green? Have not seen a ton of people talking about it yet !
Ryan, enjoy viewing every video. A t-post hammer was one of the best purchases I ever made - so much better than a regular hammer!
Have you considered, or maybe you do already, setting up trail cameras to see what kind of wildlife you have coming around? If so, would love to see some pics.
And you can watch the grass grow! Haha
Would be interesting to see you drive by the old house to see what it looks like in a year
Kelsi is a big help. I can’t wait to see you guys get started on her garden.
The drone footage of all the different plots you have going on is going to look wicked a year or 2 from now!
I am continually impressed by the teamwork you and Kelsey share
I would be lost without her, that's for sure!
Definitely would like to see more poly-cultured lawns that are low input and still can look great with just the basic maintenance.
Cool to see you still knocking out that tight cut in front of the house. I’ll bet it’s a huge conversation starter for people who are house shopping and check out your house.
We will all miss the old golf course lawn ! ⛳️ and the “is that real grass?” Comments 😂
Those yellow flowers by the old bridge look like native prairie plants. Have you considered doing a prescribed burn in your "no mow" areas to see what comes up/try a tall grass prairie?
Your test plots are looking better near 1 year than my lawn that I been trying to look good for 5 years. I’m pathetic! 🤣 Nice work RK!
Thanks for the Kubota update......Keep us posted after dealer inspec.!!!!
As Kelsie is talking about the door Ryans like how funny would it be to lock you in.
So much going on and coming together nicely. You mentioned Blue Bank on the side yard. I thought you had Blue Note? Can’t believe that rye wow!
Nice Ryan you got the Rotary blade for the trimmer.......Sweet!
Those rotary scissors are so satisfying 😅
Ryan. I noticed your power line poll down by your grass plots in the beginning of the video. You might call the electric company and see if they offer an optional security light to be installed down there. We have that option here it’s like 10 dollars more a month. But basically you have a really nice led light that would be on down there all the time. Just and idea.
The deer looks at the chicken fence and says “psh” stand back hold my beer. Lol hahaha
What are the cultivars you are testing for drought? Btw you should test Zenith Zoysia. I grow it in Vermont, it can handle heat and drought no problem and requires zero irrigation.
As the "Plot" thickens, we'll have to wait and see!
Keep up the good work!
You are The Godfather of grass!
Gonna miss seeing your home lawn as it has drawn many of us to the lawngoals game. I’m sure it will be next level at the new place though
So to get with the trend, we wind up planting a salad buffet for deer. I see. Glad to see you going through all of this methodically, things do have to be proven or disproven methodically. Great channel, been watching a while, subscribed.
Fyi for zero turns mowers you level them based on where you mow most often. I mow at 3 inches so I adjusted the front bolts to be level with the back bolts at 3 inches. At any other increment expect it to be a bit unlevel. Tell me if I'm wrong.
That is typically for the scalp guard wheels. You adjust those a 1/2” lower to the ground based on what level you mow most. You level the deck based off a level surface. You want 3” to be exactly that, and same with all other height of cut measurements. On large properties I mow, I use a 60” commercial Cub Cadet zero turn and those are the deck leveling instructions from the manual.
At this rate, you're going to have to hire a property manager.
Hopefully I'll have a helper next season
Ryan, Is the deck level? Measuring from the blade to the ground the blades should be off by no more than 1/8" side to side. From front to rear the blades should be 1/8 to 1/4" lower in the front.
Really digging the fire pit spot.
Hey, Ryan - would you consider developing a wild grass / flower meadow> I’m about to develop one. It’s going to look amazing and so good for the environment. It’s going to contrast with a 1 acre lawn in the same place.
Go Bears!
In washington where i am AQI was solid 150, expect to see that for a while honestly
have you checked out that crazy blade that The Lawn Care Nut showed off about a year ago. It was a disc that had 4 blades attached to it, and would replace the standard mower blade
May I suggest using a t-post slammer. Totally worth the investment.
The one we have doesn't work with larger posts so we'll have to get a different one
No. In all seriousness it is cool how many different test plots you have going on
Excited for this
Looking great!
Hey Ryan, how does switching the front yard to sand affect the next homeowner? I would guess they will not be keeping up with the top dressing.
Lol the zero turn looks enormous in your backyard.
What about testing different varieties of zoysia grass. It is popular in Hawaii. El toro, zenith, zeon etc.
I'll be doing some zoysia but that's a warm season grass. We get to -20 in winter
Fescue is on 🔥
So stressful planting seed can’t imagine all that lol do you know how many pounds of seed total you’ve thrown down throughout WestBerry?
What type of grass would you recommend for northern California
What are your thoughts on using urea on a lawn for fall? 46-0-0
First Aussie 😁. Ryan, It’s all happening on the Lawn Ranch. 🤠
Are those rotary scissors in the Milwaukee power head? If so are they Milwaukee branded or compatible with the Milwaukee power head? Can’t seem to get something like that in Australia
There is the front yard!!!
Hey Ryan,
That pastoral no mow seed, do you think that would be good on a long creek bed? I'd rather not weed wack it every month or so (as I am now).
Have you considered using water from the creek to water that lower area?
Not enough flow
Ryan you struck gold with Kelsey!!!!!! Love her way!!! Ryan can you pin that down....Hun!!!!!
A little authority wit a touch of LOVE!!!!!! Kelsey's thought process is so clear love how she organizes!
And she loves JC!!!!!!! Wooooooooo Wooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!
My fav to Kelsey: ua-cam.com/video/cPSiK5dCTCU/v-deo.html
Make sure to let a hunter or two help maintain healthy deer populations on the property
I recently added a wood fence around my backyard (7500 sq ft) and when they installed it, they dug up a lot of the soil for the posts and just threw it down around the perimeter. My soil is extremely sandy and there are big gaps under the fence in a lot of spots. I plan on putting some new fresh soil and laying some KBG/Rye down this week. I’ve had issues in the past with too much twigs/weed seeds etc from the top soil I buy at Lowes. Any recommendation on type of soil I should be looking for? It will be mixing with my sandy soil I currently have so that should help level it out.
I usually get mine from a local bulk soil provider. I can't say that's absolutely bulletproof in terms of it being clean but I've had good luck with it
If it is called screened topsoil you should be good. If it is just referred to as top soil with no qualifier then it probably will have larger debris in it.
Beautiful
Any chance of growing buffalograss?
You and Connor having another best hairdo competition?
Is all this testing for your own research for determining what to plant around Westberrie? Or is it for other purposes?
How are you keeping your seed from drying out.
Anti scalp wheels? I have a 50” and don’t usually scalp unless on an i levels lawn cutting at 3” you shouldn’t see issues knowing ur lawn leveled fairly well so something is off
Those wheels are essentially not doing on anything on this deck because it's fixed front and back and tightened down by bolts. I was mistakenly under the impression when I saw those wheels that it was going to be the same on all mowers where it helps the deck to flex when it hits low spots but you can push on the deck with your hands and it doesn't move at all so those wheels are basically just dragging
Lower fescues? What fescues are meant to be cut short??
Fine fescue
plan on getting fuel storage out there?
Are you ever concerned about the type of chemicals the the neighboring farmer might be spraying on his crops? With possible drift, It would have me stressing!
Your wife rocks!
Is it ok to use liquid fertilizer on 3 week old grass?
I usually wait at least 4 weeks
@@ryanknorrlawncare I'm not sure if it's my soil test kit or not but my soil shows no nutrients
My guess is the people that buy your house would let you come back and cut the grass.....
Where's your robot? Surprised you don't have one by now. Esp for test plots....or do you?
Robots are for quitters 🤣
@@ryanknorrlawncare LOL
What zone are you in?
5a
As much as I hate it, exmark zero turns for the win.
🌱👍🏻
If you need help with deer control, I know a guy… 😏
Water conservation is important for people who are living where people shouldn't be living.
Go Vikings!
I dont know, but I care for more content that helps the fans/home owners. This I really dont care for poping up in my feed
This is helping people because in a few years you won't have a lawn at all if isnt drought resistant.
I need a wife like that
Everything is looking really nice Ryan! I do have a few questions for you if you would like to get in touch with me sometime, Paul gave you my number. Take care and don't work too hard!!
Looking great!
