Hey painless. I know this is an older video but I have a couple questions. I’ve been out the hobby for a couple of years and am just now getting back into it. I previously only flew analog but now I’m getting the Walksnail HD fpv system to use with a new wing. Prior to leaving the hobby a couple of years ago, I had built a ton of wings. I no longer have all of my tool and everything so I’m not in a spot to build one from scratch so looking for a pnp wing or other type of one prop plane for hd fpv. I’m looking at maybe getting the TBS Caip 2 to use with the F405-WMN and the Walksnail FPV system. Does that seem like a good setup these days or would you recommend a different wing? I owned a Caip 2 years ago and liked it a lot but am currently catching up on all the new options out there. Additionally, I never previously used a flight controller with any of my wings so I’m gonna have to learn Inav as well. Anyways, thanks for any tips and thanks for the years of helpful videos!
Hi Michael! Welcome back into the hobby. The basics are all the same, but a lot of the technology has advanced while you've not been flying. I helped design a Caip2 style wing that many are fans of: AR Wing PRO (www.3dxr.co.uk/fixed-wing-c27/fixed-wing-kits-c105/sonic-modell-ar-wing-pro-p4597). It provides a much cheaper way to get a wing that does a lot of what that TBS wing did for a lot less money. Check out my INAV for Beginners 2022 series for ideas on how to build a modern wing with INAV. I have lots of builds for you to check out.. Best of luck!

I thought you can put multiple devices on the I2c bus? Can't you connect the digital airspeed and GPS both to SCL and SDA on the 411-WTE? It also seems to have the analog airspeed pads as well so you can have gps/airspeed that way too, no?

Hi Lee many thanks for the replies and links but unfortunately have not been any help in resolving my issues. I went flying to test the Atom and as mentioned before I can get the throttle to work by pushing the tx sticks into the corners after arming and the throttle will respond, so open throttle threw plane into the air and it flew well but noticed the auto launch did not work as it does on my TBS cap also using a matek board dji air unit and same dji black tx. went I got home I set up the goggles so I could see what was being said on the display. To my surprise I only get HOR, ACRO and no manual stays on ACRO yet this changes in the mode in the configurator ??. When arming I get the yellow triangle in configurator arm changes sometimes to a light blue sometime to a dark blue ?? but when the tx sticks are pushed together I get STAB show up in the goggles. What is this please im assuming stabilised mode ??? but why does this stop the auto launch. We don't have a STAB mode option,I am now at a loss with getting this Matek F405wmn working correctly. Hi Painless, nice video, I also bought a F411-WTE. Can the GPS be wired to the WTE with soft serial instead of UART? Or is soft serial too slow? Or something else?
@@Painless360 No I mean GPS internal computations are time consuming. You can see the lag while driving around roundabouts. The 10Hz update rate does not compensate for the GPS internal lag. It only avoids additional lag from the FC computations.

@@Painless360 thankyou
Does the wte come without pins to solder or did I get a packet missing them
Honestly, can't recall. I don't use them here as they only have two hardware UARTS.. I'd ask the person you are about to order one from.. Best of luck!
I've just bought a F405WMN because of the lack of UARTS on the 411 WSE, can I use the cli dump from the WSE and put it on the WMN?as the WMN uses inav 5 ?
Most of it should be fine but things like the port mapping is probably different so I wouldn't copy that..
@@Painless360 thanks mate 👍
What do you think of the 405-miniTE? Seems loaded with uarts, all on a single board
I'm running a f411-wing. i have walksnail on uart 1 receiver on uart 2 but i'm stuck with my GPS. i believe i'm out UARTS. is that he case or am i doing something wrong. I don't think the F411-wing has enough Soft serial either.
With only 2 UARTs and limited soft serial, this older FC isn't great for modern builds using HD FPV with an OSD. Also, the voltage smoothing on this one was not great too... Best of luck
@@Painless360 firmware.! That what I thought. I may not hook up the RC tx for walksnail and just use telemetry to the radio and the walksnail vbat voltage for now
Can you run a F411-WTE with CRSF over UART, GPS over the other UART, and also have the DJI Air unit hooked up with OSD working? Or do I need to go for the F405-WMN?
I run DJI air units on soft serial here. Best of luck
@@Painless360 Hi lee and thanks for your videos. Following you for yeeeaaars here :) can you please point to a link for the F411WTE firmware that let us use softserial for DJI FPV? i just upadted to inav 7.1 but cant find that specific target! thank a lot for alll you do for the community!
Thanks for the video, I have a question.
The GPS setup you have on the F405-WMN you did not connect the SDA AND SCL as shown in the guide.
Will it be an issue if you setup it like this ?
Also given the SDA AND SCL are free now, you can connect the airspeed sensor to the SDA and SCL right ?
Thanks.
Yes you can. Happy flying
Is it impossible to use f411wte with Walksnail HD system on a FW, am I right?
Try ua-cam.com/video/_kGeSn_8yPM/v-deo.html
Hi Lee, can you put Ardupilot on the WMN and use it for a VTOL?
I don't see why not. but I haven't tried it.
Why would you want the limited Goggle osd instead of the flight osd?
I don't understand the question. what is a flight OSD?
@@Painless360 hi painless. I meant the limited osd from the camera system vs the full flight controller osd.
I'm still not understanding what you mean. Are you referring to analogue vs. Digital OSDs?
Hi, would these two FC work with FS- IA6B rx? it has only ibus and ppm
Check if the software you intend to use supports ibus... Best of luck
@@Painless360 It would b INAV, so yea?
Looks like it
Lee why are all my channals not in the correct order? I carnt figure it out for the life of me! The rudder is on the throttle channal ect! Totally lost!
Any ideas?
The default channel order is set on the radio in the 'settings' menu. You can change it, and it'll default to that for new model setups. For the hobby, AETR is default, but other arrangements are supported. Simply select the channel order you want in Betaflight or INAV configurator. See my builds..
@Painless360 Thanks. I'm new to planes and inav. I flew drones for a few years. But your review on a flight controller also made me make the jump into planes!
I'm just sitting down with a cup of tea to watch the INAV playlist of yours!
Thanks for replying! There genuinely isn't many who do!
👍
Do you know why they are not on banggood ? :(
Thanks for the video.
Would the F405-WMN be compatible with a BN-880 GPS for an ardupilot / arduplane setup ?
Ardupilot target listed on the website - www.mateksys.com/?portfolio=f405-wmn
So, should work with a 3rd party GPS/Compass no problem.
can you somehow reduce voltage on servo from 5v to 3v?
Why would you want to do that?
@@Painless360 because I am making very small plane and will need to use super small servos and they are low voltage
Hi, i have customised my matek f411 wse with New possibility as uart 1 for gps, uart 2 as RX ans full softserial as dji osd (with ch6 for softserial RX) but i just kept led control. If interrested on the hex file i Can share it! Hi from France !
Hi! I'm wanting to start my first Inav build soon but I have only installed the zohd kopilot. I'm looking for a good flight controller that is a step up from the kopilot. Would you recommend this FC for a first-timer? Thanks for all the content!
It depends on the model. Check out the INAV for beginners 2022 series linked in the description... Happy flying
please! say me if the dji osd works with serial port for dji fpv or not? please answer me thank's!
It does
@@Painless360 ok thank you!!
so the dji osd works with serial port or not? (for the f411 wte)?
??
Hi , does this FC works with PX4?
If it does it'll be listed on the PX4 supported hardware pages. Best of luck!
@@Painless360 Thanks mate
The new Matek F411-WTE should replace the WSE and it has OSD...
How to connect dji o3 to f411 wte ?
Same as with any other flight controller. See my other builds with DJI FPV. SoftSerial is ok for DJI OSD.. Best of luck.
HAHA nice Lee! Now we all will know the new WMN FC as the "Woman Board"
Hi Painless, nice video, I also bought a F411-WTE. Can the GPS be wired to the WTE with soft serial instead of UART? Or is soft serial too slow? Or something else?
It can but limits the GPS to 57,600 baud rather than the 115,200 that you can get out a hardware UART. Should still be OK... Happy flying
@@Painless360 GPS is already lagy, around 1s of time lag.
If that is on a hardware UART then something else is going on..
@@Painless360 No I mean GPS internal computations are time consuming. You can see the lag while driving around roundabouts. The 10Hz update rate does not compensate for the GPS internal lag. It only avoids additional lag from the FC computations.
