    God King would probably be worth it, it's the maximum amount of yield you can get with the pantheons left over, and considering the strong faith pantheons are gone and Ethiopia, Venice, and India are in the game (who all tend to prioritize faith) you more likely than not won't get a religion. Might as well pick the best early game pantheon while it lasts.

      +fishleaf18 Good point. Religion is often second-rate if you found it yourself, and in this situation there should be some good options for a decent religion. Open borders policy with India or Ethiopia could give some nice benefits.

    The Sacred Waters pantheon doesn't seem like a bad idea in this situation, with 3 cities planned to be settled on rivers it can give +3 happiness which is almost as much as a new luxury. It's not the the greatest pantheon ever but considering the limited options it might be worth picking up.

    I played the Moors a little while ago, it was pretty fun (I only play on Emperor or Immortal lol).
    Marb I really think you should do the Rise of the Mongols, Fall of Rome, and Into the Renaissance scenarios; they are combat heavy and you won't need to worry too much about teching in them. I'd really love to see you play these, since you already enjoy combat so much!

    -Playing as Venice
    -Neighbor is Pocatello
    -Pocatello goes for Liberty
    -Pocatello forward settles two cities right next to my capital and steals all of my land
    -No open borders until Civil Service
    -"Pocatello desires your lands"

  • @compubon

    Settling right on the cocoa (to the East) would be a decent spot. Calendar lux's suck to work, and you get the happiness right away. That tile is also river/mountain with wheat, cow, marble in range. It's also really easy to defend and would put both paths to Venice inside your borders

  • @DocSardo

    I'd probably go for God-King for the early boost. You are surrounded by Gandhi, Venice, Ethiopia and Polynesia, all of whom go crazy about religion, so getting and keeping a religion will be tough anyway.
    Also, I would probably forward settle toward Gandhi for the 3rd city - on the coast to the west. You would get truffles, fish and another dyes. It's a bit far away but Gandhi is not aggressive and you could back-fill with cities later. The main advantage would be the ability to ship food early to your capital, which will be the only advantage to being on that lake. This will give you a large territory to fill up with cities later. You will probably not have competition for the eastern sites, so you could settle those later.

  • @sqliqbild
    @sqliqbild 9 років тому

    Interesting start. I don't think this will be very difficult, but you never know !
    I'll add my vote on the "all the religions will be gone" side, and say God King, just to reap maximum value. Also I like the plan of forward settling Gandhi with a "coastal" city with truffles, observatory and naval trade route to your capital. And a very storng defensive position to boot. But this pile of resources in the east looks sooo tasty...

  • @Cyrikyty
    @Cyrikyty 9 років тому +1

    I'd settle the third city on the tile east of the cows that gets both the marble and the cocoa. It'd still get the horses, just missing out on the dyes. You have plenty of those anyway...

  • @MrDictatorDan
    @MrDictatorDan 9 років тому

    Marbs, might I suggest Earth Mother (+1 Faith to Salt, Iron and Copper)? You know youre going to get one faith from the Salt in your second city, so you're gambling that you will have some iron around. Its also nice that you don't have to improve the resources to get the faith.
    I know you don't like gambles, but that one might be worth it once iron is revealed!

  • @MrAM-ny1nk
    @MrAM-ny1nk 9 років тому

    Hey Marb you should settle to the east right near Venice on the river. Venice won't be that upset. You'll get two unique luxuries and you might even be able to settle next to the mountain for an observatory

  • @pitthepig

    • @Smokinblazed
      @Smokinblazed 9 років тому

      +fghnvxdrghnm I would normally agree but since Marb has no super close neighbors who will be spamming him with missionaries the extra happiness is helpful in the beginning for before you can get you luxuries online. You can keep planting cities without worrying about going unhappy. God king is really terrible/ last resort because your capital benefits but none of your other cities.

    Maybe going for Dance of the Aurora wouldn't be the worst idea. It gives you a half decent chance at getting a religion, and it's not like you don't have tundra.

  • @timseddon1757
    @timseddon1757 9 років тому +2

    I think i comes down to 3 choices for Pantheon:
    Stone Circles - 2 faith....but, you'll need to wait a while (at least 20-25 turns) before getting it up and going. There are a few stone tiles here and there (plus a Marble near the area you were considering for your 3rd city).
    Earth Mother - your going to be working a Salt right away with your 2nd city, so this might be worth it. You could luck out and get a few Iron tiles in range of your cities.
    God-King - It's the worst of the 3, but it will give you a good early boost.
    Personally, I think I'd go with Earth Mother.

    • @timseddon1757
      @timseddon1757 9 років тому +2

      EDIT: You know, settling 1 tile east of the Cow (on the river East of your capital) will let you get the Marble AND the Cocoa (as well as all horses and wheat). If you plan on doing that, maybe Stone Circles would be a better choice.

    • @WiccaRobin
      @WiccaRobin 9 років тому

      +Tim Seddon (Binnister) As much as I dislike God King, it is not the worst of the three but the best. Going by Your statement, which I do agree with He'd be exteremly lucky to get a religon at this point, Mother Earth offers actually offers less, then God King, because the time to set up the other cities and and to aquire the tile and start a mine, is all time taken away from what God King gives you, then what ever time left prior to Eastern Orthdoxy showing up on his door step and making His Patheon history. 60 turns of God King far out weighs the long term waiting to reap the benifits of the other two.

    I'd settle your third city on the grassland tile directly West of the Cocoa between Byblos and Quebec City. Settling there would give you two unique luxuries (Cocoa and Marble) as well as a city on a river that can build Neuschwanstein. You'd get some cattle, 4 horses, and a river grassland wheat tile. You'd also get control of the mountain pass next to Venice, which would make any aggression by them easy to repel unless they buy Quebec.
    I'm looking forward to see how the Enlightenment Era plays out. Your unique ability might make for some interesting citadel uses where you steal luxuries and get a (I'm assuming generals give science) boost.

    Hi Marbozir, have you ever considered using the Late Game Range mod? It increases the range of the Gatling Gun line of units by 1 so they have the same 2 base range of the Archer line of units, at the cost of lowering their defensive/melee strength similar to the Archer line of units. It would make those experienced crossbows you get in the early game way more useful later on, because you tend to be quite over-cautious about being in city bombardment range with those guys.

  • @green5603
    @green5603 9 років тому

    Hey Marbs, decided I would throw out my suggestions. (Long post, sorry.)
    In terms of your pantheon, God-King or God of Craftsman wouldn't be terrible choices, because with Ethiopia, Venice, and India, getting a religion is highly unlikely. Those two would give an instant benefit, and would have been useful while it lasted as opposed to a pantheon that gives faith, that would later be pretty much useless, unless you get someones religion that gives something such as pagodas or mosques. Stone circles wouldn't be terrible useless with your second city, and if you get the marble tile near Venice. Personally, I would take Dance of the Aurora. This will help speed up your religion, since you have lots of tundra near Cordoba. Also, the third city spot you said would have tundra as well.
    In terms of war, I suggest keeping Venice as a trading partner. You don't really need to worry about them backstabbing you, and if you get down the third city you mentioned it would be a fairly safe trade route. I would take out India first, as they are your closest neighbor. Not a good idea to leave them for the late game anyways, unless you want nukes to fly!
    Cheers!

    The third city should be somewhere on the coast of this ocean, just for the food traderoute. to ur captital. +Romaoplays BR
      Here's the interesting Civ 5 mechanic:
      At the beginning of your turn, your food is first calculated, then production, gold etc.
      This means that if you have enough food for a citizen it automatically gets assigned based on your city focus.
      Now all of your production, gold, science, etc gets calculated in turn. If your focus is default or food, your new citizen won't gain any food for you because food was already calculated before he was "born".
      If you instead set to production or other focuses, this new citizen will earn you some "extra" production or gold. While it's not a lot of production, generally 1 or 2 per citizen, over the course of the game this could save you a few turns.

    Why mods are not showing up on My Mods menu?

      Try deleting \My Documents\my games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\cache\Civ5ModsDatabase.db and then restart the game.

      Well... didn't worked. My old mods are working fines but any new mod that I try to subscribe just doesn't show. I think that it doesn't download.
      @edit
      Ok... I instaling it manually copying from:
      C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\61181225\ugc
      eferenced
      to
      C:\Users\André\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\MODS

    Based on the AIs so far this is going to be pretty easy game, hopefully there is like Russia or Greece not discovered yet :P

    I'm guessing with Venice,Ethiopia, and India all as neighbors, that your pantheon won't matter too much in the long run, because they are all religion happy civs and will probably spread their religion to you regardless if you actually get a change to found your own.

  • @Ryskar

    Even taking a spite pantheon doesn't seem useful here (I've taken Desert Folklore before without any desert tiles, just to keep the AI from having it, and it's gone). Also since both pagodas and mosques are taken as follower beliefs, I would definitely just let the AI spread their religion to you at this point. Considering your neighbors are Ethiopia and India, it's going to happen anyway. Dance of the Aurora would temporarily make the deer tundra tiles better, I guess... but as much as I hate God King, you will almost surely only have your pantheon belief very temporarily.

    Is this playthrough political?
    The Moors were a nomadic people from North Africa; originally they were the inhabitants of Mauretania. They invaded Spain, taking their Islamic religion and culture with them, in 711, where they overran the Visigoths. They spread northward across the Pyrenees into France, but they were turned back by Charles Martel and his Frankish knights in 732.

    rough start - I would have rerolled, because there is no great pantheon to start and no good pantheon left, but you do ok with limited early food and production.
    tundra faith may be ok if there is tundra beneath the dyes, but I prefer stone circles
    i never liked tithes. it costs 500 gold for a colosseum = 250 gold per 1 happiness, so cities on a river or with 6 pop might be better unless your religion is overrun.
    but then I've never survived long in deity - unit maintenance is so ridiculous compared to your neighbours.
    how about god of war ? barbs will give lots of early game faith until your neighbours are close enough to mistake your financial woes for weakness.

    I dont really see you using your faith anytime soon and at least God-king would give you +1 faith +1 culture +1 gold +1 prod +1 science instead of just +2 faith for as long as someone spreads their religion to you. I dont see you getting a decent religion yourself with buildings since I saw two of them gone already in that pantheon screen.
