We are same with our adult grandsons with car or motorcycle problems as husband a brilliant mechanic we help them if they are trying to help themselves but never much financially that's their parents job
When I left the US, I gave one car to my brother-in-law and the other to a nephew. My job in life is to help those whom I care about. Family helps family. Could I have added some money to my bank account? Sure. Would I have felt better with the money rather than the hugs from my family, absolutely not.
I was raised by parents the exact same way in principle! Mostly by my mom and grandma who lived with us. Dad preached the same but did the opposite, he always said do as I say not as I do! Now the tables have turned and I just had to tell my dad that he can’t come live with us! I’m flying out Wednesday to Mississippi to help my sister evict him from her property and he thought I was flying one way to help move his rv to my place in Tennessee! Since my mom passed he has been parked on my sisters property living in his class a rv, he blew through $250,000 dollars in life insurance and is now talking bankruptcy so she is ready for him to go b4 his coach gets repossessed and it’s even harder to get him gone! I turned the tables and used his life lessons that he gave us back to him! I told him that if he had invested the money and or used it to pay off all his debt including the coach then he wouldn’t be in his situation, but letting him move into my house with no means to support himself ( his social security is eaten up by a brand new truck payment and insurance) is a dead end to solving his problems and he needs to figure it out and get stable b4 my wife and would even consider letting him stay awhile. Cause right now it would inevitably be be more than a while and he refuses to let anyone look at his finances or listen to recommendations like selling the truck paying it off and using the rest to buy a used vehicle with cash thus freeing up $1200 a month that could go towards rent or a small camper payment! Being a kid of a father like that was hard, but being an adult and dealing with your father like that is hard enough without making it ten times worse!

He's living the dream really - would love to make that trip one day just for the adventure of it. Glad he can help his son out, I wish more people thought like this. I can honestly say I've given a car away to someone before which is a good feeling, I could have made a buck on it but the person was in need...supposedly. My heart was in the right place though.

I agree with you, but I'll add this, at 56 years old, I've found, that some of the greatest hands up, has nothing to do with Cash.. The last little bit of the video is really sage advice. I grew up in Whitehorse. We spent a lot of time in Alaska and all over the Yukon. People who have lived, or who live in the north understand what it means to help each other out. People tend to set things aside to both help out their people or help themselves when times are tough. It's part of survival and strength of the community. And not in the weird conspiracy prepper way we see people doing in the lower 48. Building a bunker and having a years worth of canned food isn't going to get you through an Alaskan winter lol. You do things like have a couple extra generators, an extra running and maintained vehicle or two, fuel for heat, whether that is oil, propane, wood or gasoline. You make and maintain relationships with your neighbors and friends and stay close with your people. You go out in the fall and get fish and meat for your freezer so that when it's 40 below for 3 weeks, or it's snowed 2 feet you are good and don't need to go into town. You don't have to live like a bush rat, off grid, a hundred miles from the nearest paved road and all that, though you can if you want. You can live in a normal house, have a normal job, drive to work everyday and just enjoy your life. Alaska is no joke, but you can thrive there if you live right. I've been outside for almost 25 years, but having grown up in the north, I like to think I picked up some good life lessons along the way and try to apply them often.
@@Bushradicalleave it......don't take it back. Buy something else for yourself. It's not like the car shortage there will go away for the next couple years. And if you take it back that's 7500 miles worn on the vehicle for nothing. Leave it.
Great video! It reminds me of traveling through Wyoming during over twenty years of winters. It's great to see people giving their family a hand up without enabling them to expect it all of the time - after all, this is one of the small pleasures we worked for all of our lives and who better to pass our blessings along to than our kids.
You're a wonderful father Dave! Your family is very blessed to have you, and your wife, in their lives. My father can't be bothered to even drive 2 hours to see me for a visit. Thankfully my mother is the exact opposite. She would drop everything just for the time to see her kids, and grandson. Definitely a good roll model for her family!
This is my first experience with you I don't know who you are I don't know what your channel is about but I loved this journey. I hate to drive and I love being a passenger. You are a fine example of a father you do things not because you want to because it's fun but because it's your responsibility and you have to. God love you for traveling thousands of miles with a back injury that's just amazing.
I have autism so I don't always express myself the best but I just think you're amazing. You seem like a real stand-up guy I'm subscribing and we're going to check out what you've got going on.
Dave, I'm a MI native, and seeing you go over the bridge and talk about St Ignace made me smile. I fish & camp up at the Greenwood Reservoir not too far from Republic (Champion, west of Ishpeming) so hearing you mention it and that you stayed there made me smile again. Love your channel.
Glad that you came to the aid of your precious son driving 1,000s of miles to take him a car. Thats what parents do and I am sure your son will never forget your visit. Cant wait for him to show off his car to us in his next video.
I sure am glad to hear you helping your son to be able to move along in life, as most parents don’t have the resources to do so and if they do, they pretty much leave the adult children on their on just because they’re now adults. I help my two children by sharing what I have. This is to give them a head start in life.
Met your old man the other day he came down and bought some tires from me, great guy!! We got talking hunting and fishing and made plans to hit the blue gills this spring, loved it!! Great video man
Awesome job on helping your son! My dad helped me when i needed it and I do it for my kids and now grandkids! We do what we can to keep them from a total Wipeout! We can give advice when they ask for it, but they have to make the decision to follow it or not!
Dave I totally agree!! Although, I’m just making it right now, (Hubby passed two years ago) helping others right now is family, Church family and close friends listening and allowing us to come through grief… making it. Now I am back to teaching, I thought I was retired!! I do help those I can but God is indeed bringing me through this! Praying for Mick and your precious family!
Can't beat having a spare beater, i bought a nice, old, used minivan for $500 that i now daily drive cause my previous daily driver decided to act up. That ole van is awesome and the previous owners took really good care of it. It's nice having something to lend to friends who might need it for a day or for hauling stuff. I totally relate with having the capacity to give, it's important and can have more impact that throwing money at other people's problems in
This is a wonderful act of love & caring that I believe the world needs more of. My children & family help each other out whenever we can because when you have strong, bonded family, you build strong, independent community. I’m in my 7th decade & my family & friends are my reason to do better with my resources. Great footage of your road trip. I live an hour from the Rocky Mountains in mid Alberta & we’ve had a crazy winter from -50 C to +15 C. Yes, those wild animals are definitely road hazards! Blessings to everyone 🤗🇨🇦
Narrow, curvy road, but I am amazed that they got the road cleared of snow so well. I know Mic is grateful to his wonderful dad for some wheels. Great advice to set aside something to help someone else.
Im glad that you were able to lend Mick a hand and had an adventure as well! He is learning SO many lessons - not the least of which is that you and Brooke have got his back.
I've been watching your videos for a while now and I love them. Two months ago my girlfriend and I moved to the south on the other side of the continent and this video brings back many memories of the first trip I took to our new house. Your videos inspire us a lot and we really want to build our own cabin instead of buying one. We send you a big hug from Argentina and we will continue enjoying the content of this great channel!
Beautiful scenery, thanks for sharing. I grew up on the shores of Lake Huron. I have a brother who lives in the U.P. & cousins in Vancouver. Helping your adult children out once in awhile is not solving their problems. It’s being a good parent & good karma. Stay blessed!
I know exactly where you are coming from, my son is 19 and even though he has a heart of gold, loves God and is a hard worker, he is still so innocent and nieve in the ways of the world, its just him and me together, he's my best friend fish'n hunting camping buddy, couldn't imagine life without him. As a father we all want better for our children than what we had and we want to help them succeed in life but yet, we have to learn to let them walk/run on their own which at times can be hard for a father to watch. I know in my heart that God will watch over & protect my son in my absence, yet it's a father's job to worry about their children. Love your content Dave, may God bless you and watch over you and your family.
Hi Dave. Your son is very grateful, I'm sure, that you took that very , very long treacherous trip to bring him a vehicle to use during the winter. I'm sure he will find something to buy later to suit his needs. You and Brooke have a hard working son that is "figuring it out" cause that's what he does. And the weight on his shoulders are a little lighter now since his dad visited him. Thanks for a solemn video for us all to think about. From Central Oklahoma
My husband and I vacationed in Alaska last August. We drove from Fairbanks back to Anchorage via the Richardson Highway (we even stopped to top off our gas in Delta Junction). It was raining during most of our trip and even with just rain it was the scariest driving I've ever done. Long construction zones through pure mud, switchbacks with steep drop offs on one side, cliffs on the other. Worrying about seeing a moose (or other large critter) in the middle of the highway at any time. I have so much respect for anyone who drives through there on a regular basis, especially during the winter.
Great adventure and great advice. My dad helped me growing up and I love it when I get a chance to help my kids. That’s what family is for. Dave, you should be teaching this course of being useful in all the colleges in America.
The advice at the end about resources to help your people/loved ones is spot on, getting real close to 30 years old and I'm about to go to trade school. About to be the 3rd or 4th gen of contractor in my family and took me too long to realize it.
Happy you could rescue Mick with a vehicle for the time being....hate to see him in such straights as we all know covid did a lot of resources in....He is young and taking the hard knocks of learning isn't easy at that age....but as a parent, we all know we can only watch on the sidelines just so long while your child is in a situation you might help them out of.....you and Brooke are great roll models for you children and never feel guilty doing what you think is best for your family....glad you are all safe and sound,,,,,,Love your channel...😇❤🙏
I agree with your sentiments-both about letting them figure problems out and about helping when you can. I’m relieved Mick has a vehicle now, and I’m sure he is very grateful to you for the loan.
I felt every bit of this vid. Been there, done a lot of it in one way or another. Doing it as a parent is a whole other level. Every moment as a parent is a teachable moment and you’re a parent from their birth until your death. Thanks for sharing.
Words of wisdom! As a Mother who ended up raising 6 kids without a spouse I was on the end of receiving always knowing one day I would be the one giving. Truly a blessing!❤
Enjoyed the ride-along to Alaska. My mind still boggles at the distances involved, especially through some rather beautiful but downright scary roads. You shared some solid wisdom too. I'm grateful that our three grown children are doing well and seemed to learn how to navigate life, marriage, and parenting. Despite our own foibles as parents, they turned out well and seem to have learned the good and filtered out most of the mistakes we made along the way.
I agree 100%! My mom used to say you can help someone until they're helpless; now we call it enabling. Jesus fed the multitudes, once. He did not continue supplying their food.
I love watching you do anything! Your calm voice and manner, your wonderful attitude and skills. I love every video you have put out. I used to have property close to you in the U.P. And really love watching those episodes!
help for sciatica .. roll into a ball, knees to chest wrapped by arms (pillow behind head so can rest in rolled position); after a few minutes while still in ball, roll to side and back to other side, to back. then with knees bent, put feet flat on floor and rest awhile; then, one leg at a time, alternating, walk down left foot one two, right foot one two, continue until knees about 160 degrees (might feel a little self adjustment, like a little man with little hammer does one tunk in your lumbar .. or not), Carefully return feet/legs to starting position (heels close to buttocks) .. rest that way awhile, and if no tunk achieve, try again. Rest awhile .. to get up, roll to one side (your choice.. I prefer left) and carefully get up when necessary. Stand as straight as possible, ribs high, chin back, ears up. Sitting, of course, not the best .. lumbar support .. reposition to remain sitting tall .. avoid dehydration. Even if no tunk, the ball, walk down and up, rest and, of course 🙏🙏🙏
Dave, good advice about saving money for a rainy day. We had three daughters and we helped ‘em out, once in a while. Made that same trip, to Fairbanks for work, in the middle of February, ‘18. The semi-trucks, snow storms…and low temperatures, negative 30’s, are reality. New to this Tennessee boy, a walk in the snow, doesn’t crunch, it squeaks at low temperatures…heh, heh…Thanks for sharing some of your life…from an old man in the east TN hills.
Great to see you Dave! You’re an amazing soul helping your son in need, even with a cantankerous back to deal with! God bless, stay safe Dave!❤❤❤❤🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Dave, I’ve had a similar point of view with my own 3 children(all now adults)….you raise them to be self-sufficient, because you’re not always going to be there to bail them out of a bad situation. But, if you CAN, you can offer aid. The idea is that they know help IS there, but not to come to rely on it to offset chronic poor decision-making…something that my late mother and her second husband never could make the connection with. You certainly don’t need anyone else’s stamp of approval for helping your son, especially not mine….but this gets that quiet nod of “yep, you’re doing the right thing”. Looking forward to seeing the next video….
I had a chuckle when you we're talking about how you occasionally use the word "EH". Being born and raised in Minnesota, this word was so normal, you didn't even think about it's use. I have since moved from the state and for the most part lost my, Minnesota accent. However, I still use the word "EH", it just naturally comes out. There are times, where folks question the use of this word and my reply is always the same. "I prefer to say EH verse HUH"! 😅😂🤣
Thanks for showing that the trip can be driven in a 2w drive car! (I used to have a Vibe!) I'm in Colorado, and driving up to Alaska is on my bucket list!! I love the encouragement to "have something to offer." Amen!

He's not a wonderful father by coming to his rescue, let the kid live and learn
@@janehilt1376 - What? your parents never helped you out in a jam? Sucks to be you
@@colin8532 No and that's why I'm not a pussy!!
@@colin8532 Must suck to kiss ass to mommy and daddy 😂
Your stuff is the best, always learn something watching. Four Whipples I know of on UA-cam, and you are all great.
It's pretty great being able to see this drive in the winter, looking forward to seeing it in person. Thanks for sharing, Dave! -Dusty
Glad that you came to the aid of your precious son driving 1,000s of miles to take him a car. Thats what parents do and I am sure your son will never forget your visit. Cant wait for him to show off his car to us in his next video.
He's spoiling his kid

I sure am glad to hear you helping your son to be able to move along in life, as most parents don’t have the resources to do so and if they do, they pretty much leave the adult children on their on just because they’re now adults. I help my two children by sharing what I have. This is to give them a head start in life.
You and your wife produce the best content.. so thank you . ✝️🙏❤️🇺🇲
Great video 👧👨 You can definitely give your kids gifts! A car is a great choice 💛Gifts don't destroy character!
Beautiful Scenery but those roads looked bad. Thanks for helping Mick. He is such a talented young man.
I know 2 people on UA-cam that i Treasure there Opinions and how they live their lives.you are one of them dave god bless you
Can't beat having a spare beater, i bought a nice, old, used minivan for $500 that i now daily drive cause my previous daily driver decided to act up.
Thank you, Dave, for taking us along. Such beautiful scenery that I’ll never see. Justifiably helping your family is never wrong.
I think you summed it up why Dave is s special
It's no exaggeration to say you put your life on the line to help your son. Wow! And what an amazing road trip!
Im glad that you were able to lend Mick a hand and had an adventure as well! He is learning SO many lessons - not the least of which is that you and Brooke have got his back.
That's great parental guidance and help you gave your son.
Wow those roads….thanks for being a good dad. Well grounded. Can tell you are rooted in God.
Thanks for taking us along!! Beautiful scenery!!✌🐢
You sound just like my Dad. He had the same mindset you do. Him and my Mom passed in 2022. I miss them everyday.
I am so glad you helped Mick! He is figuring this out and he will be successful! Our kids just need a little help sometimes.
Thank you for another trip. It was amazing.
Great description of our roads! Love 'dad help' it comes with ❤
Best choice helping your son out. It was a safety issue. You gave Mick a lifeline. God bless you.
You're a good dad Dave.
My dad helped me so much when I was trying to get started in life, I sure miss him.
My dad helped me a lot too. I’m going to call him right now. Thanks for the reminder :)
Wise words Dave and I hope your back sorted itself out.
What l love about you two is that your both real. You're great together!
I am old enough to be your mom, and have found that those parental spasms never stab less deeply as you age. 😊❤❤❤❤🙏
Great adventure and great advice. My dad helped me growing up and I love it when I get a chance to help my kids. That’s what family is for. Dave, you should be teaching this course of being useful in all the colleges in America.
Beautiful landscape out there and beautiful attitude towards helping others. 💙🙏❄
The advice at the end about resources to help your people/loved ones is spot on, getting real close to 30 years old and I'm about to go to trade school. About to be the 3rd or 4th gen of contractor in my family and took me too long to realize it.
May the Lord bless you Dave and family!! ♡
Hello from Yosemite,
That's great advice. What a great feeling you receive when you do good things for your fellow man. Life is good. God Bless
Amazing scenery! Thanks for the tagalong. Great parental philosophy... good for you.
Nice to see you Dave, always enjoy your videos. Like a breath of fresh air ❄️❄️❄️
Dave- you are a fantastic dad! I know, Mick appreciates you very much! Thank you for taking us on your journey from Michigan to Alaska.
You are a great dad! I bet your son really appreciated it and you got an adventure! Thanks for sharing the road trip! Just beautiful!
help for sciatica .. roll into a ball, knees to chest wrapped by arms (pillow behind head so can rest in rolled position); after a few minutes while still in ball, roll to side and back to other side, to back. then with knees bent, put feet flat on floor and rest awhile; then, one leg at a time, alternating, walk down left foot one two, right foot one two, continue until knees about 160 degrees (might feel a little self adjustment, like a little man with little hammer does one tunk in your lumbar .. or not), Carefully return feet/legs to starting position (heels close to buttocks) .. rest that way awhile, and if no tunk achieve, try again.
We love Mick so very happy you are headed his way. Not much traffic 😊
My late husband drove for Ket also. He did hot weather testing in Arizona. He loved it!
I work 3rd shift, 10pm to around 6am, finally catchin up on your videos I missed. Thank you for all your efforts!
You are a good Dad, Dave. The lessons you teach are not lost. Mick is feeling his way through young adulthood, with guidance from his Dad. ( and Mom).
You’re a good father Dave. It’s not like mick expected it of you. Love your shows.
Love Team Whipple.
Thanks for the ride.
Your self appointed granny from TX.
Greetings from Northeast Ohio. You did the right thing helping Mick. I bet he was glad to see his Dad.
Thanks for showing that the trip can be driven in a 2w drive car! (I used to have a Vibe!) I'm in Colorado, and driving up to Alaska is on my bucket list!!
I love the encouragement to "have something to offer." Amen!
Dave you are wise beyond your years!! Thank you for your insights!! I hope many people take your ideas and motivations.
Way to go David your a good dad. You never stop being a dad. And never stop being a mom either and so on. God first then family the most important thing ever. Good for you sir and God bless you all.
2 is 1 and 1 is none!… great video Dave!
100% on the car and your son. I have done the drive from Fort St John to Whitehorse, during the summer and it’s spectacular
