Man, you are so relatable. Thank you for just being you 100% it's so much easier to hear what you have to say when you're as authentic as you are. Thank you sincerely.
Much love!!
I saw you on a mini documentary forget where, and I subbed. I come back once in a while to get more knowledge. This is a noble enterprise, Sir. Hopefully one day I will get a house and move out of this high rise. Look forward to trying this lifestyle.
I'm glad you enjoy fam
I will warn those who want to buy lava rocks in bulk for the price, make sure they do not have red dye added as some are meant for fire puts and are artificially dyed to look more red.
Shoot, GREAT point Rick!
Iv used lava rock on all my fish tanks and pond. I do however rinse it thoroughly to remove red dust that looks like it could had been dye.
But typically real lava rock turns red or black naturally depending on the temp it cooled down to. According to Google.
This made me for certain and safe knowing I could use lava rock. Clay balls are super expensive spagnum is to. Great vid.
Thank you so much for sharing your learned knowledge! I also saw you on a mini doc. Peace and blessings 🙏
Hi Kaley. Thanks for stopping by! :)
I just watched you on PARAGRAPHIC and was extremely impressed. My man, when you said you wake up every morning thinking “Why didn’t I start this earlier?” - that hit home right there. I’m the same way, why didn’t I start earlier. I’m now 47 and just starting… I hope to leave a legacy like yours even if only for the one purpose of growing (medicinally*).
Newly subbed. Glad to be aboard Mr Collin’s. 🤙🏽
Glad to have you onboard fam!
New subscriber, love ❤️ your style and the way you present your information. All positive and you keep it moving. All killer no filler. I need to find the videos on the aquaponic system in this video. We already have a pond filled with fish. I was hoping to use that water and the nutrients from their waste to feed my plants. Hope to grow tomatoes and lettuce. Keep creating great content. Good luck & blessings with your move. Dave in PA.
Hi Dave. You're so close to achieving your goal my friend. Please Me posted. This can definitely be done.
GRATITUDE 💥🔥💥🔥
Much love fam!!
I've done hydroponics (using clay balls) and I've done aquariums and believe it or not, my favorite substrate for my aquariums is lava rock. I've never done aquaponics though, although that is arguable since I have rooted non aquatic plants (pothos) in my aquariums only those plants weren't edible and the purpose of using them was primarily as added filtration of the aquarium water (although they did add a nice look to the aquarium as well). They weren't rooted in the substrate but rather hanging above the aquarium by it's rim with the roots falling directly into the aquarium, but I do have other aquatic plants rooted in the substrate.
My question to you though is are you using a substrate in the aquarium where the fish are located and if so, which one? I apologize in advance if I missed the answer from another of your videos. Also, which is easier (in your experience) to remove the roots when harvesting a plant. I've been recently considering using lava rock instead of clay balls in my hydroponic system but I might not if it is more difficult to remove the roots than the clay balls. Thanks!
No sir, I have assisted clay pots on the bed of the aquarium
I finally am getting started collecting all the materials had cost me only a couple hundred so far i just need to make the decision on the more expensive clay balls or Lava rock
That's great news. Please keep me posted. I personally like lava rocks, but i use a mixture sometimes.
Hey "neighbour", you might want to look into "wageningen rockwool" or "wageningen substrate"
Wageningen is the world capital of agri tech (It's like silicon valley, but for agri tech), they are constantly putting out new tricks that allows you to grow more while using a LOT less water (like only 10% of what you use now)
Can you link me? Thanks :)
@@togetherwegrow8340 I tried a few times but youtube auto deletes my comments if they have links.
I just read an interesting interview/ article about Chris Blok. Is it peat based?
@@togetherwegrow8340 Thats one of the tricks. They also got some method with foams (though that's more for the flower industry) and completely soil free rockwool type substrate.
they are a university that should have a free for all knowledgebase online somewhere.
@@cobalfrostwyrm I SWEAR I wish I would've been aware of them a long time ago. THANK YOU!
Excellent video. May I ask what camera you used? I noticed a remote in your hand. Were you using it with your camera? Thanks.
I'm not even sure. This was so long ago :)
Ayy
See, I took care of it!😁
@@togetherwegrow8340 while I was waiting I ended up getting both and using lava rock underneath leca in a deeper bed. You using it as your mainstay and its price was enough for me man.
@@rickspringer4814 not a bad combo at all
I saw someone else using pool noodles as a substrate, and I'm hoping to combine his pool noodle seed holder with your horizontal gutters method, sometime when we move to a place with more sun!~ 🪴
Zoe, that's an AWESOME idea!!
