Possibly the first time GIRTH has been used in a headphone review.
GIRTHHHH.
I'm a 55 year old audiophile. I've had my DT1990s for a few days now (sold my Focal Clears which cost twice the price) and absolutely love them. The slight treble brightness isn't an issue at my age. I also prefer the looks and single cable entry, it doesn't feel so restrictive. Works beautifully straight out of my Iphone 13.
Every time I watch another one of your videos I'm shocked that you don't have more subscribers. Your reviews are incredible and the production value is amazing. Thanks for all the help!
Valour prefers velour. Makes sense.
Yeah it's weird my parents christened me Sam Synthetic Protein Leather Lee... :-/
@@samlee2562 hahah ":-/"
I had to listen to both of these next to each other at CES this year and found the Amiron Home was just more fun to listen to, I really like a warmer sound and they filled my head space better.
Your videos are awesome mate, straight to the point.
I can see the allure of the Amiron as a great all-around crowd pleaser, with enough detail to satisfy most people but also enough girth in the bass to create a silky-smooth richly-pleasant listening experience. That said, I crave the DT-1990s I sold off. I wasn't a huge fan of bright treble till those cans showed me what I was missing. Even with the HD800 and its fantastic soundstage and detail, I felt there was a spank and a sizzle in the DT-1990 I just didn't hear in most other headphones.
I've been through thousands of headphone reviews, written and videos. This was a good one. I propably won't watch anymore(i hate video reviews), but I subscibed because you deserve the support. Good Job!
Great video! I have the amirons and this video makes me want to try the 1990s even more! :)
sadly they aren't available locally here in the philippines :"(
Josh…I was so in love with the T1 when I first heard the 1st gen years ago. I owned the DT-880 and loved them. Now having enough money, I was going to buy the 3 gen until I saw your review. I’ve checked and 2nd gen are rare and triple the price new…so now, following your advice, I’m torn between these two….I’ll also be buying the Arya based on your advice though again only the Stealth is now available. I may have to buy both…because I have a very eclectic taste….
This is the video I’ve been waiting for. Much thanks. I think I’ll go with the Amiron. Better up saving from now then!
Oh and btw, do you happen to know if the Amiron still sound good with Sony ZX300? Or I’ll need a separate amp for it?
Did I miss it or did you mention what pads you are comparing the DT 1990 sound to the Amiron Home?
The 1990s kick ass i love them
Hey Josh will you be doing a review of the Beyerdynamic t5p (1st or 2nd gen) anytime soon?
Hello Joshua. Can you suggest , I'm torn between those two and Sennheiser HD600 and Audio Technica 1000x. Thanks for the review.
Without actually listening to the Amiron home cans, I can’t comment. But my DT 1990 pros, I love them. I think I’ll stick with them for now. Great review by the way....
Thanks a lot!!! you saved me a lot of time as I was actually in the fix as which one of these 2 would give me better performance in classical music and instruments. I was already a fan of DT1990 pro but was wondering if I am missing something and if Amiron could be a better alternative - your detailed comparison helped me understand the differences better. As I will be using DT1990 PRO with my Galaxy Note10 plus to use Hires services like Primephonic & Spotify (sometimes YT Music), so I selected Earmen TR-Amp to drive it. Is it right or can you suggest me some other alternative(s)? Thanks in advance ☺
After 2 years, would you say classical music sounds good on the 1990? It’s my primary genre and I want to take listening and studying piano music to the next level with a superior headset.
@@taiteyard3567 You can go with DT1990 PRO to listen to every detail, but I choose CHORD MOJO 2 as a better portable dac/amp that is designed to enhance the musicality and better detailing - however, you can look for some desktop dac/amp as well
When you said the names of the pads and you followed it up by saying "Their terms, not mine." I was happy because i just got these headphones and I have to say that I prefer the balanced pads for mixing over the analytical ones. I am mixing Hip-Hop with these and the Balanced pads leave in the bass frequencies so that I can interprete them fully. They sound more like a "normal" pair of headphones that way without leaving the detail out of the music.
Great comparisons. Quick question What was the song used in the intro :)
Ripasso - Hysics
i'm thinking about getting the DT 1990 Pro, but so i i only have the Audio Technica M40X and as an amp/DAC i only had money left for the "FiiO E10K Olympus 2"
since the DT 1990 Pro are only 429€ currently here in Germany i want them badly....would my current amp/DAC be enough for them, or would the headphones not sound nearly as good as they could? i mean only transition-wise...i plan on getting a better amp/DAC in the future but it will take time until i have enough money for it....
im sorry for the long question i am new to Audio-Shit.
thanks in advance
thank you very much
For me, the Amiron takes it. I watch movies, play games, and listen to a wide range of music. I’m not s pro, audio is a hobby for me. And I want to love my music, not pick it apart. I also prefer having a cable entry into both cups, it distributes weight better and is less jarring if you get snagged.
What I don’t like is the same price for crappy accessories. A second pair of pads should be standard, even if they’re the same ones. I don’t mind the cable so much as I always make or buy my own.
Really, really appreciate the comparison thanks man. You’ve made my decision for me.
Let’s see how they go with my budget Yulong Daart Canary 😯
Antoni Gates Exactly my sentiments, so, I won't repeat them. I completely agree. :-)
(Dt1990) If I connect to 2021 m1 MacBook in series, I can't secure the volume, so do I have to use an amplifier?
I wonder how many of the differences are because of the pads, it'd be nice to do a comparison using the same pads (perhaps Dekoni Sheepskin that come on the DT177X?).
Which pads DT 1990 in this review ?
Hello,
Could you please explain what it means to be treble sensitive. I hear that said often, and though I think I understand it some, don't fully understand it.
Thanks,
Ruben
It basically means if the high notes coming from a headphone are too loud or shrill, it causes pain in your ears. People have different tolerances to this. For example, some people don’t enjoy the DT1990 because the treble notes are just a bit too much.
What is the intro beat? Its sick o.O
If you were to compare them to DT880?
Is your microphone having some noise issues or just im hearing things?
I litterally buyed the amiron home 2 hours ago ^^
And just saying it sound fantastic, only thing is that "s" or "t" sound that are really bright/arsh. But except that little problem, it sounds and feel so great
Is Amiron best wirreless headphones on the market?
The DT1900's are going for £50 cheaper, than the Amiron home, in the U.K right now, so I think I might go with them. Build and feel are almost just as important to me as the sound and the 1990's appear to be what I'm looking for - mostly metal build and tight clamp. Music and movies is intended use. I have a Topping DX3 pro+ which should be ok for these....?
I think the DX3 Pro+ are the best budget amp/dac. would pair nicely with these. there are better amp/dac options for more money, but you know, diminishing returns
Whats the name of the song in the beginning. I really like it!

Bro, i'll use fones to mixing techno music, whats do you prefer.. sennheiser hd600/hd660s/hd650/dt1990/amiron ??? please help me kkkk thanks for your infos and this great video
The amiron is not a studio/reference headphone don't use it for recording/mixing.
After watching this review, I bought the amiron home because I found an used one on ebay for $280,00. I enjoy the headphone overall but it's laid back and I don't like the bass response. The bass is slow and not punchy at all. I still prefer my Beyer DT880 over the amiron home. Can anyone tell me if the DT1990 has a "punchy" and well defined bass compared to the amiron home?
Yes I have them both, DT1990 is more punchier/ sharper more clean sounding - its more fratiguing as well- for me I like the sound of Dt1999 for about an hour or two then you have to take them off not as complicated as Amorim’s, and you get a ringing zing to your ears that you need to take a break from- so 1990s analytical take on/off critical listening, Amiron are fun, relaxing enjoying- an can listen for hours not discomfort to the head or ears. Ones for relaxing the other is for work- or referencing sounds.
This is what they are intended for- hence the names.
was interested in buying a used amiron to compare against my 1990, but today i fitted some dekoni hybrid pads to the 1990 which has definitely improved the bass depth.
not sure i will bother with the amiron now.
scrap that, i have both now and both with hybrid pads
I plan to buy the 1990’s but I intend to just use them with my iPhone 7+, are these overkill for portable use, or should I still get them?
Not only they are overkill for a phone but you will not enjoy them without a proper amplifier. Hope this helps.
Pau Ruŀlan Ferragut thanks for the help, is there a portable amp I could buy, or rather, which headphones would be best for portable everyday use. My budget is 500, thank you 😊
Heard that replacement of the 1990 muffs fixes the brightness
I lean towards the Amiron Home... usecase will be music-listening on the PC (via a dedicated DAC/Soundcard). Music is bass-emphasized (RnB, DnB, Dubstep to filmmusic, melodic rock/pop/metal), Gaming and videoconferencing (which will not be a challenge for anything).
Will try to compare them to the Sennheiser 660S2 though, if I find a shop offering both.
ty for this review, been looking for headphones in this range ever since my akg k550 died.
do you know if alpha pads would fit on these cans btw?
would also love to know your thoughts when comparing these to other headphones in the same price range(hifiman sundara comes to mind)
u dont wanna put any other pads on the amiron. all other beyerdynamic pads fit on amiron and even 1990. i tried my 990 pads on amiron and all the bass was gone. it just sounded crap. u must use the original pads to amiron. u cant go wrong with amiron.. one of the best cans out there for sure
@@chriss881000 I ordered the amiron home from my local store, will be picking em up this coming week.

@@blakkpatron thats a good choice man. Only thing downside with them is that They are just made wrong. I dont care about anyone says, They are. This is my second amiron cans. Har to sell the prev i had. Bec They was making so much noice. Crackeling sound. Har to sit compl still when using them. Could not move my jaw. The plastic between the forks and the cans are running agsinst eachother. All of them are like that. Har to sell them for half the price. Local store. No refound. The New ones i buyed on the internet. Then u have 2 weeks refound time. My new ones are exaclty the same build, but for some reason They dont make so much noice. So im fine with them. Lets hope the ones u get are fine:) They should be created like the dt series. But u will love the sound. And the sub bass is just awsome. This is kinda bassy cans to be open. But They need a good amp. No fiio shit=p iv tested them with a cheap amp (schiit magni 3) who is good for its price. But They dont Shine with the magni 3. Crackly audio in this video... I've discovered this through the use of my own DT1990s
i dont hear crackly sounds, i hear a really thin background audio (DT770 250ohm)
same ;)
I could hear it on my Bose 700 lol
Can hear it on my 4XX's as well... 1990's will be here tomorrow.
any possibility to do a comparison between the t90 vs dt1990, much appreciated!
Sebastian Mactavish i'm not Josh but i'm Gonna do it for ya,
T90 = sharp, unbearable And sibilant treble festival
Dt1990 = flawless cans
thanks, I do have the t90s, gotta say have yet tamed the treble, still searching for the right amp....but the dt1990s seems so promising...choices....
Alejandro MT I love my Limited Edition Jubilee T90. Try a good Dac and a decent Tube Amp like the Darkvoice or the La Figaro 339. Both tame the brightness of the T90.
Excuse me. Between admiron home and t5p 2nda gen. Which headphones has: 1.- Wider soundstage, 2.- More instrumental separation, 3.- More neutral sound, 4.- More details in bass and highs.? I hope you can response me. Please please... thank you.
just forget the t5p.. go with amiron.. deep awsome bass. amiron are just as bassy as 990 just more defined and tight. for me try to save some time, all things u mention, amiron is exelent on all axpects! have u never tried them.?. btw they need a rly good amp. dont even bother with some fiio shit amp. not some cheap shit like schiit magni 3 either. this need a ggod amp. in the 500 and up dollar section. not trying to be a dick here bragging about expensive amps, but i have alot of amps from 100dollar to 5000dollar .. and theese cans shine like a MF with a good amp and a good dac..

if the soundstage in this headphone isnt superwide like you said, which headphones do have a super wide soundstage? i always thought the more soundstage the better....but im new to this stuff
Yeah well, it's a trade off. If the soundstage is bigger, then the sound will be more 'diffused, like light spreading off instead of being focalized. So you get a wider image (which makes it sound more realistic) but you sacrifice some detail. Kinda like when you are too far away, you don't hear the minute details.
I have HD 600 and Akg K712 and they are exact opposites. Akg has very wide soundstage but overall I prefer HD 600 because I get the most details (which is what I am looking for the most).
@@Leonhart_93 thanks, Yeah i ordered the k712 Pro yesterday....do you think my FiiO E10k will be enough to Power them? Some people say they are power hungry....only transition-wise until i get a tube amp or something....thank you
@@Thome90 They are power hungry in the relative scale (as in more than others), but not really that demanding. I have Fiio E10k as well and I use them with that at like 33% of the volume and that's very loud already for me.
I also have a 1MW amp, buy it sounds the same as on Fiio, so that's definitely all you need.
@@Leonhart_93 awesome thanks...i was just afraid that it would have impact on the audio quality or something....
@@Thome90 Not at all actually, to the point that it's frustrating that I spent 3x more on a more powerful Amp/DAC that sounds identical to the last tiny bell sound you can find.
Soooo the 1990 takes all the categories ?
1990 looks amazing. Great design. I have no experience with open backs. How much it leaks ? I might consider it but i don't want speaker like headphones.
Open backs do not block any of the sound from coming out. They’re about as loud to other people as playing the sound through your phone speakers.
Hi josh i had bought the amiron home. Should i return. Them for dt 1990. What sounds best. Or should i keep them. Are the dt 1990 fatiguing. Please let me know what would you do thankyou
Did you not watch the video?
Is the Monolith Liquid spark amp enough to power DT1990 Pro?
Absolutely
Yes, can confirm
I'm liking the combo of the 1990 with the Monolith THX AAA 788 hp amp....the 788 really increases the width of the soundstage.
josh, for just competitive fps, thoughts on upgrading from k712 to dt1990?
spiretonegatz nope. AkG is better for gaming.
Joshua Valour thanks for the quick answer - and saving me from a $600 downgrades. if ever, what would be the upgrade path from k712, if not the 1990 for that specific use case?
Absolutely. 1990 Is pretty much better in everything except sound stage (which is why they aren't as good for gaming)
spiretonegatz gaming only? Had k702 and now hd700, a little upgrade in soundstage, higher would be hd800 and it stops there for GAMING only. But it's SO not worth the price for gaming only, ur headphones are enough.
K712 And dt1990 owner Here
Unless you want that accurate imaging And just better detail get dt1990 but overall k712 are good for gaming Even Tho i don't use them for that xD
Nice detailed review, but why are we comparing a hifi stereo headphone to a studio reference headphone? They have completely different uses.
Because they cost the same. Not that hard to understand. All that matters is how much money you give someone and what experience you get in return. I don’t care if a DT1990 is “intended for studio use,” it still makes a kickass home headphone according to every review I’ve heard.
@@TecnoTyler 99.999% of the people who buy 1990s couldn’t tell the difference between these headphones, including you.
I scored a pair of Amirons, fully functional yet missing a cable, for only about $260 altogether. I LOVE the detail. However these don't grab enough for my head. It feels like they are hovering over your ears just barely touching them like a psychopath monkey just waiting to twist your head off. I stuck an old HD-650 headband in between the yoke fasteners (?) and it slotted right in no destructive modification required. That improved the clamp enough and now they float on your head without just uncomfortably hovering over it.
Then, no kidding, I tried the Samson SR850 pads on this sucker and they fit loose but they don't come off. I cut some holes in the back kind of like the regular Amiron pads have, and I feel like I'm missing a tiny bit of detail/resolution but to my ears now they don't sound so dull. Because to me the 650 is an exciting headphone because of the upper midrange (???) peak. Someone called it a hard sounding upper midrange, that's what makes them alive to me.
Amirons are just a bunch of hidden detail with a whoomp for the bass and it's bland as crap to me, I want them to be brighter.
I'm about to get some 1990s because they seem like what I want the Amirons to be.
Edit: Dekoni Elite Velours. My goodness they fixed the fit, they keep ALL of the detail of the Amirons, make them a little brighter and give the bass more texture, and now my headphones have a massive soundstage like I've never heard in a headphone before, yet it still sounds close and personal enough to hear. More fatiguing, but I also enjoy the way these sound so much more than I do with stock pads. Truly feels like an HD-650 upgrade now.
Amiron Home would probably get my dollar over the DT-1990?
Bass reach and impact is important. Especially, if it's a "bright" headphone!
My cash actually ended up going to AT-MSR7B. Fast, engaging, clear with good bass impact and extension! All for only $250 USD!
My goal is a pair of Stax L-700 Mk2! Once I justify the $1,569+!?
Until then my Grado RS2e are king!
The DT-1990 is a beautiful headphone, in an industrial design sense. I tried it several times, at 2 different CanJam's NYC and couldn't quite pull my wallet out for them? Possibly on a "Black Friday" sale? For $600 they lack excitement. All the while appearing to be just too sterile overall for my liking.
JFYI, both these models share the same set of drivers, according to Beyerdynamic catalog
I prefer mini XLR because it is more durable and should significantly longer.
i like the 1990 they are a little more dynamic and life likemhh32452

for 1990
the difference between the two that came with the 1990, one is bassier then the other i

Do you like them? Are they good with the vocals?
Guys I just bought me a Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro and a Beyerdynamic DTX 501p Headphones for 146 USD is that good?
Amiron Home, hands down. Non-fatiguing, long-wear enjoyment of music ... period.
Is it sexy
Amiron gets treble heavy in above normal volumes (specially at anywhere near 80db) and for me my right ear touched the inside of the headphone making them uncomfortable in an hour of usage. Besides that I think they sounded great, nice big soundstage, instruments have weight to them, the build is fantastic, but I ultimately ended up with the HD 650 which I am enjoying a lot more, because of the comfort (my ears touch the insides of the cups but I do not experience any discomfort let alone pain like I did with the Amirons) and they can go loud without having piercing treble. And while not having the biggest soundstage or the biggest sound the 650 sound full, that is kind of what the sennheiser sound signature is, it sounds like you are not missing any of the music or whatever you are listening to, even though the bass is not big it is deep and at the same time does not overtake any other ranges because of that.
the song in the beginning sounds like a song that would be in John Wick
Ripasso - Hysics
how much better are they compared to a 990 Pro? the 990 is regarded as one of the best product below 300$ (you can even find it for just 135 bucks now) but what would justify a budget difference up to 500$ for these?
Skyward CSGO dt 990 are considered to be even brighter than the 1990.
They are far from the best at any price range. If you just have 990 then they sound great, but as soon as you have something to compare it to they fall apart quickly, they are too bright and lack any warmth, they are thin sounding compared to any other hifi brand headphones. Instruments lack body and ultimately is quite far from realistic sounding. Sennheiser 500 line even though they will lack detail that 990 have they will still be more pleasant to listen to. If you want high quality then go for Sennheiser 600 line or AD1000X or 2000 or akg 700 line. 990 are only regarded highly by people who haven't tried anything but cheap before.
@@dnd6379 I had an AKG Q701 and it was an absolutely awful product. Built quality was pitiful and the sounding as way too flat. I also had a Sen HD598 and I didn't like it, especially the EAR feature. On the other hand I tried a Fidelio X2 which as absolutely awesome on all points, until I get the DT 990, built is less good than the fidelio but it sounds better. I like the brightness, it's a great polyvalenxe for games and electronic music, it sounds really open with a large scene, maybe not the largest but great enough for games and movies. What I mean is that for 135 bucks, those DT990 fits me far better than some products that are even more expensive. I take it as my main now and I'm trying to get my hands on higher end products to see if it is really worth spending so much into headphones.
@@SkywardFR Your hearing is damaged but for folks like you there's beyer products, so 1990 should be right up your alley or HD 660S or Amirons, maybe AD2000X as well. Although you might wanna test some hifis that you think you won't like and maybe you will prefer them to these, maybe something that is well balanced like the headphones that I mentioned minus q701. You might also want to try out different types of music genres on each headphone to see how they sound.
@@dnd6379 It is true that the choice is large, I know the DT990 are not sooo great when it comes to rock or metal. Wouldn't say no to a bit more warmth, now i'd try not to throw more than 600€ on headphones so DT1990 or Amiron seems to be the right compromises. Should try the HD600/50 too

TurtleDucky I haven’t tried the sundara. But, people complain alot about build quality on sundara.
@@JoshuaValour nah build quality is great but i think Joshua is talking about quality control
Indeed, Amirons at anywhere above normal listening volumes gets bright/sibilant.
Change the DAC, sibilants depend on the DAC.
Amiron 1990 and 1770 have same drivers
Edit: Also I believe 880 and 990 have same drivers
Janer Yessir
The 1990, 1770, and Amiron do indeed share the same driver, and it’s trickle down from the T1. The 1990 is it’s most pure application, if you pull the headphone apart, there’s no damping whatsoever.
The 990, 880, and 770, however, do not share drivers. There’s even disparity between the premium and pro versions of each line.
Yeah you're probably right, I just thought the 770 also had the same driver once I knew that and also knowing the higher end ones I mentioned shares the same drivers too. There is a slight change between pro and premiums the way their casings are built will definitely have an effect on the sound, also the 990's opening kinda has parts slanting down which will effect the sound in a small form.
600 and 650 do not have the same driver. It's similarly designed, but it's not the same. And the Premium and Pro variations of the beyerdynamic headphones don't sound the same, no. They are both measurably and audibly different.
oooooooooooooooooooooh daddy its nice to see ya here
I would like to have the omirons, if i could afford them :D

l've returned 1990 cuz the clamping force was too strong, makes my head hurts. I've had 880 Pro and comfort on them was way way higher them on 1990 Pro.
No wonder, the DT880 pro weights 295g with a clamping force of 3,5N. DT1990 pro weights 370g with 6,6N.
Btw: I love my DT880 Edition(2,8N)❤
@@october65-h6e that's a nice info, thanks!
I like my Amiron Home
I wear my headphones for 5+ hours at a time, and I wear glasses. People seriously understate just how uncomfortable the Pro headphones are out of the box. If you have a shrunken head, and don’t wear glasses, then sure. Wish Beyer would just release a DT 1990 Premium version like they did the last generation of DTs.
I wish so too. Even the new DT 900 pro x is only available as a pro model☹ I can´t imagine that these pro models are also comfortable as my DT 880 edition with only 2,8N clamping force(compare to the DT900 pro x with 5,3 on 345g and the DT 1990 pro with 6,6N on 370g). Amiron Home with 340g has 3,2N clamping forse. Sounds way more comfortable for me.
GIRTH.
excellant got beyerdynamic Amiron Home and DT 1770 PRO,DT990 250 Ohm with cable mod mini Xlr by amplifier_surgery ebayer
If you don't like the boomyness and exaggeration of the B pads, place some electrical tape across/over every second hole. This makes them the perfect and balanced headphone.
Does the DT1990 have stronger bass than the DT990?
Yes I would say so. Reminded my of my lcd2 in a way
Your’re like MKBHD of headphones reviewers. (Sorry for my english. I’m not quite sure that’s the correct way to say it.)
Mkbhd is terrible.
@@SeraphSeph yeah I’d totally say the same if I had a channel like yours. Well done!
s sound is called sibilance
DT 1990 Pro (Y)
I prefer...
Dt 990 pro
dt 1990 pro is the KING of all headphones :)
not for me then , my ears are really sensitive to high freqs :(
..."2% imaging and sound stage..." OK, now that's precision... Or how to make a review with little useful information besides what you can find in the manufacturers website...
I'd pass on both. Although I haven't heard either the 1990 or the Amiron Home, I don't like Beyerdynamic's sound. I am very treble sensitive and from what I have heard myself and heard in reviews, those Germans love their treble.
This is where these 2 differ from the bottom tier Beyers. The treble is dialled down in these.
Sennheiser perhaps...
Amirons look like they're ready to be r4ped. It has 2 holes literally for 2 cables to fk it. The driver rear ends are made of cloth-ish which I just want to use scizzors on and drop some cherry juice on it. The headband is a smudge magnet and the pads don't look like they show any character unlike Beyer's other pads. DT 1990 looks like it was forged by God itself.
yes officer, this comment right here
I have both of these. And yes the 1990 looks much better. I never use the 1990 bec is so hard and stiff. The cable plug that goes into the cans are to long and hits ur colarbone when u turn ur head to the left. Rly anoying.. I wish the headband was leather on the amiron. What possibly can be great for it ro be velour ish. Taking up dirt over time and u can't take it off to wash it. But i like the sound in the amiron way more. He is saying here that the soundstage is wider on the 1990, i could not disagree more. But ofc ppl have different hearings. Amiron all the way for me. I have the dt 880, dt 990premium and pro, dt 770, t1 gen 2. Dt 1990, dt 1770 and amiron. And of all these the amiron is my everyday cans.
