Excellent Video about the simplistic way one can go for a fish hunt - locally - and enjoy the outing without to much fan fare or hauling long distances to hunt target species. Good work. Keep it up.👍
My grandfather lived in Deagon and fed his family of 8 from his gardens behind Baxters shop and what he could catch in Sangate and Brighton. Then when the second world war started he walked 1500 km to Townsville looking for work. Kids now won't put down the xbox and walk to the shop. They built them tough back then. Great video. I live in northern Queensland and always laugh when someone says nice flathead. Only catch monster flathead here and they are not as good chewing as mangrove Jack mackerel Bream Grunter etc. Having said that I do really enjoy the Bondi Fishing Club fishing for Bonito and flathead. Best fishing I have seen is Sydney after a 20 year trawler ban. No bull. Better than the gulf ❤
Thanks for sharing your story, Patrick. No doubt your grandfather would have experienced some exceptional fishing in the area back in those days! And you’re right, NQ is a seafood smorgasbord.
hey will great vid cobber , people used to take the piss when I was casting lures and softies down there , ' to many rocks mate ' , used to plead ignorant and say yeah probably from th old church to the pier was gold
Thanks mate, I know what you mean… I love the comments about “there are no fish left in the bay” or “you are wasting your time fishing there”. And I agree that the Shorncliffe stretch is good!
I remember ol Gordon from tw Sandgate followed me down to the bend just around the corner from the pier after telling the flatties were on , always around mothers day got 39 fish 40- 45cm in a week only took 2 that week for a feed , always go down around the same time of the year to get my Mum a couple for mothers day without fail in and out in 45 mins need a catch for beer brother @@WL_Outdoors
I've found deep bodied fish like Bream and Scnapper calm down quickly after you land them if you turn them upside down. Great Video. Feels strange seeing a video of where I walk every day
Thanks for the deml what's possible in our own back yard. Always good to find local spots. What trick did you use to get him to release the hook at the 9:40 mark? Seemed he almost swallowed it... seemed too easy to get that hook back
For throwing soft plastics around, I’d look for a graphite rod rated 3-5kg, in either 6’ 10” or 7’ 0”. Matched up to a 2500 sized spin reel with light braid and you are set.
Loving the local fishing vids !
Cheers mate, glad you like them 🎣

I flick hard bodies from the church to the jetty I fish light braid 4 - 6 lb braid I remove the belly hook & up grade the rear treble hook.
Great to see the lures being used 🤩
“The wall” also fishes well with bait but I find moving along it with lures produces more fish.
Loved the vid, thx for the insight. I do a bit of public transport / riding fishing missions. Cheers 🍻
Glad you enjoyed it! 👍🏼

Thanks Brendon, glad you enjoyed it. No real trick, just reversed the angle of the hook and popped it out using the lead section on the jighead…
What’s a good flathead rod you could recommend please mate

@@WL_Outdoors champion! Thanks buddy
Do you still wade the Wells I remember yous always fished there 🎣🎣
Yep, still love “The Wells”… it’s another reliable spot!
Nice Will!
Thanks Adam, I hope you are doing well mate
Great
What is the stuff you put on the lure?
It’s S Factor. You can buy it as most tackle stores.
Hey mate, what lures do you prefer to use in that area
I like lightly weighted (1/16oz or 1/12oz jighead) 2.5” soft plastics and also small hard bodies such as the Atomic Deep Crank 38.
