In the Sonic Universe Light Mobius arc, Silver changes the course of his future by defeating Tikhaos, implying the timeline goes from Prime Zone to Light Mobius to PXE. But Sally and her children being in Light Mobius (and depicted in PXE) doesn't seem to mesh with the "Mecha Sally dooms the world" angle.

Honestly, hearing that Ian is working on so many “secret projects” makes me so happy. I grew up reading the sonic comics this guy helped write and the Worlds Collide crossover is what introduced me to Mega Man, so I’m very happy to see him getting his deserved success.
As Starline's isekai adventures continue, he finally loops back around to his universe - returning during the story of Sonic Frontiers. How does Starline feel about Sage? Would he try to upgrade his tech with Ancient tech? Is he secretly singing along to the music as Sonic fights the Titans? And most importantly, what sends him back on his isekai journey this time?
Since it’s my favorite game, the idea of Sonic Unleashed without the werehog but with Knuckles instead is a vision I’m not mad at but god it is unnatural to think about.
So glad my dumb all hail shadow thing was dignified with an answer, got a good laugh out of it.
Ian finally gets a small reprieve in between secret projects? Nice! Love to see it.

Will Shadow the Hedgehog be in future sonic games? Also is Shadow still Sonic's equal or Sonic has vastly surpassed him in terms of power?
Honestly, I believe that no matter how much one of them increases its power, in the end SEGA will always place the two as equivalent. They don't delve into these issues (Although I would like to).

I have a question. So in IDW issue #9, when Tails asks if the Master Emerald can affect the Sol Emeralds like it does the Chaos Emeralds, Knuckles says "It can't. Don't ask me how I know - call it a hunch."
So my question is, does Knuckles often know things related to the Master Emerald's abilities based on a "hunch"? Does he have a user manual in his head telling him how the thing works?
You can dissolve your hat in acid, turn it into water with a base and just drink your hat if it comes to that.

I've never seen anything tackle this question before, but how do flicky colors work? Most of the time they're blue, but there have been instances of flickies of other colors showing up in the series, though in very small numbers. Are they color mutations, or do they pass down?
While you both have many many characters for the comics, do you guys have a personal character of your own? Also, I think it would be funny if Ian was the Stan Lee of the Sonic Universe, making random and hunorous cameos at random points. Would you ever do that for fun?

Spoiler warning for a Frontiers question!
Now that we played the final horizon, we have two possible endings for the game🤔 In the two endings Sage manages to live in some way, is the normal game ending one of the possibilities Sage calculated so it’s not canon? Which one of them is cannon? We saw Sage in “The murder of Sonic the Hedgeogh” in her red form instead of the blue form she took in this new ending… So maybe the normal ending is the cannon one?! AAAA so confused jajaja. Anyway congrats for the writing of the dlc Ian, it was so epic😌
I feel like story-wise, the original ending being the canon one makes the most sense and feels right
I just assumed the original ending was a simulation one way they could win but the new ending sage survives naturally so I Would assume it would make more sense with her survival as well
Both endings lead to the same route, the End is destroyed and Eggman and Sage go off together. Except in one Sage saccs her self, in the other it's Sonic. In both endings Sage lives so ultimately it doesn't matter which one is "canon" as any future instalment that reference Frontiers isn't going to be like HEY SONIC REMEMBER THAT TIME YOU PUT YOURSELF INTO A GUN AND ALMOST DIED FROM CYBER CORRUPTION or HEY SONIC REMEMBER THAT TIME EGGMAN'S AI KID SAGE SACRIFICED HERSELF TO STOP THE END? It'll just be a general "Hey remember Starfall Islands?"

Ian, in an earlier episode, you said if Surge were to ever become self-aware, she would do everything in her power to break free of the comic-book and hunt you down. Well, guess what? She has and she is. What will you do to save yourself, short-term and long-term?

Lengthy question, Spoilers too, but I *really* have to ask this... In the Last Horizon DLC for Sonic Frontiers, two important bits of story were skipped, those being *most* of The End's dialogue, and Sage's sacrifice... it's also a big shame that they were cut off, since now the ending feels a little empty without them... and I like better the idea of having the original Ikaruga Final Boss taking place after Supreme, all being normal up to Sage's sacrifice, but as Super Sonic is sent back to Earth by the shockwave, it's revealed that the Supreme Titan survived the explosion... and when it descends and the sky turns purple-ish, it's revealed that The End used Supreme to keep going even after its own explosion, getting rid of Sage in the process, and so the DLC Final Boss takes place with "Super Sonic 2" and everything, with the exception of no Sage to create the barrier (though Sonic's friends could still defend)... though, that's just a headcanon to make an example.
Given that context, do you think it would be possible to have both endings for Sonic Frontiers as one merged canon ending, at least narratively speaking?

Question- Is mania plus or mania adventures the follow up to mania as both depict sonic returning from forces and meeting mighty and ray? Also if you were to give classic sonic a voice would you choose Martin Burke or Jaleel White? Personally I think Martin would fit better but I would also love to see Jaleel return. Maybe Classic Sonic and American Sonic could meet?
Another Question- Will you guys and Sega ever acknowledge the fact that if you count up all the Chaos emeralds in the games, there have been 11 unique ones? Sonic Adventure was the first to start saying “the 7 chaos emeralds” and that’s been normal since. Will the other emeralds ever return?
I'm sorry, but I cannot agree with the whole "Replace Werehog with Knuckles", nor having Shadow in the Werehog's place for Unleashed (or in this case, a hypothetical sequel), and I'm very disappointed to hear that the franchise's most prominent writer agrees with that argument. Not only does this ignore how the Werehog played into the game's theme of "day and night/light and dark", but also how it affected Sonic's character.
The Werehog showcased Sonic's creativity and adaptability, being able to adjust to a completely new form that slows him down and coming up with all sorts of combat moves from the Werehog's properties. And what about those two scenes with Amy? You couldn't have a moment of Sonic being bummed out from not being recognized by a friend due to his altered appearance, and then later fleeing from said friend in shame of altered appearance, if the Werehog was replaced with Knuckles or Shadow.
Sure, the Werehog didn't have the most impact on Unleashed's story, but the story was meant to be light to begin with; just Sonic going on an adventure across the world with a new friend (who turns out to be the planet's "guardian"). Having Knuckles or Shadow in the Werehog's place wouldn't really add much, hell it would take away from the most compelling parts of the story. Of course, the Werehog's presence in the story could still be improved, which I *thought* was going to be the answer you would give, Ian. But I guess who cares about that? :\ Just have Knuckles or Shadow in Unleashed purely for the gameplay, regardless of how well they actually play into the story, the themes, Sonic's character, and so on.
They "Sonic MMO" was mentioned I was thinking something more similar to FreeRealms but like with the avatars from Forces and badniks and platforming challenges in Frontiers, but you can explore cities and islands from past Sonic games

Ngl you guys who keep complaining about Blaze being paired with Silver too much when you don't complain about any other pair. It's been 17 years. Grow up, get over it and stop pestering the writers about it.
36:09 - For MMO, you focused too much on playable Sonic characters, when it would be more of OC game. There doesn't have to be Sally class, because no one plays as Sally. She's just the commander.
The setting is simple: freshly recruited Freedom Fighter (or Legioner, if we want to keep factions like WoW) and the game will go through Enerjak, Moebius, Iron Dominion and all the other expansions/storylines. The map is already made.
So classes will be (with teachers)
- chaos wizards (Ixis or Neo Walkers)
- gadget experts (Tails, Rotor or Snively)
- brawlers (Knuckles or Fiona)
- special agent (Geoffrey or Nack)
- weapon master (Amy, Antoine, or Iron King)
- shinobi (Espio or Conquering Storm)
You might ask "What about Speedster?" And to be blunt, in the game like this either everyone is speedster or nobody is. Otherwise, there will be too much of an imbalance.
And races to keep it simple : Mobian, Robian, Echidna, Overlander

i am still scared by some stuff and my birth year is 1987
"Replace Werehog with Knuckles". So Ian takes the side of fans who've reiterated that over the many years. Not trying to be rude, but I still think this is a pretty shallow counterpoint. Because all it does is looks solely at the more combat (and coincidentally exploration) focus of the stages and suggest putting Knuckles there because he's a combative/brawler type character. Flynn did proceed to partly alleviate that but alternatively suggesting Shadow instead. Now with Shadow I see that as the somewhat least shallow answer, or maybe equal to Knuckles but for different reasons. Having Shadow replace Werehog would dangerously paint a narrow view of Shadow's character, leaning more in the "purely dark" or sorts type of character. Contrasting theming in general is usually simple and streamlined: light vs dark, good vs evil, etc. Having Shadow on night levels would on numerous layers have harmful effects on the characterization with not just Shadow but Sonic as well. Sonic and Werehog form have this unique harmony that cannot be replicated with literally any character in the cast. Except Sonic himself; only some dark variant form of Sonic of some kind could ever work, be it non-evil (yet still menacing looking) Werehog or an inherently evil/dark version of Sonic (like we've seen in Sonic X). You've have to completely rework the story (not just the Gaia power bestowed upon Sonic either) to replace Werehog with some other character. So whenever the anti-Werehog arguments are brought up, I think its required to also mention having to reimagine the story as well, not just the gameplay to work around Knuckles/Shadow. Mediocre write up; I know someone could do far better at explaining my point.
I was just going to comment on that, but I guess I can touch on other topics.
"Grinding on rails since Heroes/Advance". I think y'all missed the point, in it being about the classic characters/iteration grinding when it's their modern counterparts known for doing it exclusively. Sonic Advance is a 2D game, but it's obviously not a traditional classic one. It's a modern Sonic 2D game/series. Same of course goes for Rush. I can imagine someone bringing up Classic Sonic Generations, but if we do that proper comparison we have to acknowledge grinding in their was handled so extremely carefully that not only was it rare (exclusive to levels they're most iconic from like Rooftop Run? and City Escape), not only was it in short-burst, but CS also didn't actually use his feet to grind on them. ST knew Classic Sonic shouldn't be grinding to the extent MS should, so they found an impressive and perfect balance to include it without it really being a problem. Not having it would have created somewhat of a setting/legacy dissonance problem (because again levels like City Escape are the most iconic for rail grinding; the first level in the entire series to introduce it), so ST embraced it but in a way that felt appropriate, from animation to length to limited placements. Meanwhile, Superstars does the complete opposite and goes Advance series and modern Sonic on us, grinding with the shoes and extended segments of grinding. They added the pole swinging too, which should have been included with the question.

That must have been mentioned in her story, because I actually recently revisited Battle for Sonic and Shadow's story.
edit: This seems to be a Battle exclusive detail. She started some training called Boxercise after Emerl was kidnapped. She had both arm _and_ leg weights, and Cream (who has bonded with Amy quite a bit at this point in the timeline) was very surprised to know Amy was wearing them, which could further indicate that she was wearing weights we just couldn't see.
Has literally any game or comics (IDW specifically) referenced or doubled down on this idea of her arm jewelry being weights?
My theory is that Sonic Prime is a prequel to the game universe, taking place before Sonic Origins, and the Chaos Emerald Shadow lost to the Void/Abyss will become the Master Emerald.
