This is my Granny’s car from Kansas!!! She is a whopping 4’9 which explains the sunvisor! So many memories in this car! I am also the daughter of Tim’s Auto Sales! We are alive and thriving!!!! I am apart of the daily operations!!! Thank you for a great video!
When the seat won't adjust up, you adjust everything else down. Make do and mend.
I love this story.
This needs to be pinned.

@@Decenium In a free country small shops could make and sell cars just like what's done for motorcycles
@@DeceniumWho is going to jail for repair? No one. Thus, the right already exists. Forcing the private sector to sell you something is not a right. Rights are addressed towards the public sector and government.
@@castirondudeThere is actually nothing is stopping them from doing so. As long as the end product meets certain standards. Making cars one at a time, even if you have jigs for everything, is cost-prohibitive. Why do you think supercars cost so much? Part of it is the name, and part of it is the small production numbers due to lack of mass-production assembly lines. They're built by hand. The only way it's economical is to have assembly lines. How much does a custom chopper cost versus just going to a Harley dealer?

The funniest part is the sound of the busted axels tinkling on the ground as he's being towed, hiding behind the sun visor. That's like peak Uncle Rich right there!
Go go gadget automatic tire chains! Clinkity clinkity
I had an 87 Chevy spectrum. It was a factory turbo 4 cylinder. Apparently it was a pretty rare car. I loved it when I was 17. It was a blast to drive. I drove it until the turbo died. Turbos were expensive in the late 90's so I sold it. Would love to find another one for cheap now.
Totally forgot about the Spectrum turbo. I had a regular 85 Spectrum 5 speed hatch. Always wanted an IMark or Spectrum turbo at the time.

At 29:55 I think I see the problem with the final drive setup.
It looks like the CV shaft is using taper sheeves to attach the CV to the keyed shaft that is supported by the bearing blocks. This is not unusual and is common on power equipment and the like. But the taper sheeve is designed to be compressed and held on the shaft/keyway by an outer portion (usually a belt pulley or sprocket). The taper sheeve even has smooth and threaded holes which are used to install and remove the 2 parts (like a built-in bearing/gear puller.) Without the compression of the taper, there is nothing keeping the sheeve from sliding off the shaft or opening up under torque and causing the keyway to roll and destroy the shaft.....both of which happened here.
There are no direct flights to Kansas from anywhere. And flights are $1000 from here too.
I didn't expect to see you here!
That's because Kansas exists in another dimension
My name Jeff
That's why majority of people fly to MCI and drive an hour or so somewhere in Kansas
If they could come up with some way to just drop you on Kansas as they fly over... you push the little button on the wall and it goes DING and a stewardess brings you a parachute and opens the door
I had one of these as a hatchback. That little Isuzu motor it came with had no problem revving to over 7000 rpm every day. It was an interesting little car.
9:15 This is why I am subscribed to Rich Builds, the guy has roots he remembers and shares the importance for freedom!
This is pure gold! From the Hello Kitty steering wheel to the lawnmower fuel pressure regulator, you just can't make this stuff up. Rich, you're a madman (in the best way possible) for taking on this challenge, and thanks for taking us along for the wild ride! Also, major props to John Ross for the hand clutch conversion - that's some seriously creative engineering. Although it didn't quite work out, this video is a testament to the spirit of DIY car culture. Looking forward to seeing what kind of crazy car you find next week!
I love how the license plate says "JFC".
I knew the UA-cam comments wouldn't let me down when I came looking for this one.
What is JFC?

Swapping in a car that already has a manual transmission, keep the bike Transmission in 4th gear or whatever the one-to-one ratio would be and have that driving the input shaft on the transmission. I'm sure it would be far better than what he attempted to make
Picking the 1-1 in the automotive transmission and working through the bike transmission gears would likely work better seeing as there's generally no clutch mechanism used to allow easy shifting of the automotive transmission while underway. Check out robot cantina and how he applies your build thought with a different operational method. He does some neat stuff
@@goosenotmaverick1156 I love robot cantina, I look forward to his videos every Sunday morning. This is the epitome of "just because you can doesn't mean you should". Btw its just an Isuzu Imark.
Yep, they called it a Gemini in some markets. Here in Australia it was the Holden Gemini.
@@aftonlinesame here in indonesia. In fact i believe they sell both isuzu gemini and holden gemini alongside
This was a lot of fun! Glad you enjoyed Wichita!
Those are rebranded Isuzu I-Marks. The Isuzu versions were pretty nice will high end features and very reliable. I had an 88 and bought it new. Manual transmission but other than that and crank windows it was loaded with features like a sunroof and cruise and spoilers. Even alloy wheels! They had a couple of passenger car options back then along with the Trooper and Rodeo. The Impulse was super sporty and cool! Loved my I-Mark. It took GM to dumb them down and ruin them. Just like they do with everything they touch!
Rich, that pole in the middle of the room could be part of your stage! Cheers!
Hell yes! My first car was a maroon 1986 chevy spectrum. I wish i could have Hayabusa swapped that thing, it was a pig. 0-60 in like 12 seconds. Love this thing.
The Geo Tracker/Chevy Tracker/Suzuki Sidekick/Asuna Sunrunner/Pontiac Sunrunner/Suzuki Vitara (and probably other names as well) was a great vehicle. Has there been another vehicle that has been as badge engineered as that little truck?
Edit: It was also sold as a GMC, a Mazda, a Wanli and a Guangtong. Amazing.
Don't forget the Chevy Luv pickup.
Holden Gemini in Australia, minus the corner indicators. The Giugiaro design aged well
Props to JR for the first roller shots on foot 🙏
I love that it's SO LOUD that we can't even hear the navi that JR's riding.

You paid $5000 too much for this gem, Rich. They should have paid you $2000 to take it.

The true hidden talent of Rich Rebuilds is the subtle, humorous and wit of sarcasm every other sentence. Making a true mockery of wrenching is the only way to handle self-repair with an ounce of sanity when done. Bcz if the engineers would fix their OWN designs, they would NEVER ingenuously design it that way. Keep on Postin' Rich and Team RR.
That's hilarious! My wife and I bought a Chevrolet Spectrum (not Geo) brand new in 1988 just a few months before our wedding. It was the same color as in the video. It was great on gas, but a small hill or headwind at highway speeds would slow you down and need to shift down to fourth gear. Cheers.

So the problem is he isnt revving the engine high enough to get the torque up to get that heavy car initially moving. That engine was never designed to try to move that much weight.
Should have flown into MCI in KC, not ICT In Wichita. Would have cut your flight cost i half and been closer to Topeka. 😅
Hanging out with Rich and the Kansas UA-cam Mafia sounds like a riot!
Was also sold in Australia as the last ever model of the Holden Gemini - the RB. Not many left now.
I’m 3/4 of the way through this and I feel his pain. I hope he gets enough content for the $5k-$6K this adventure is costing. $3K for car, $1K for flight to pick it up, $1K to ship it from the place it breaks down back home, $1K for him to fly back!
Oh yeah, Rich doesn’t leave the house unless he’s making at least 10 grand on the trip. Rich is a very fancy man now. But in a good way lol.
Rich drives a Porsche 911 Turbo. Rich is making enough on this adventure. (Or the Squarespace plug.)😂
That's a lot of money for just the engine. But it's not about the car, it's about the adventure, right? 😁
No way the flight costs anywhere near 1k. Prob not over 400.

My first car. 1986 Chevy Spectrum same color with 200K+ miles, before it was rebadged as a Geo.. thing was a champ. Drove it for a year and sold it to a friend who drove it for a few more years..
'86 Nova , was a Corolla joint venture with GM . Most assembled in California . All Corolla except Bowtie hubcaps and emblem on dash ,,, !
Geo was a mix of companys cars. Being titled as a chevy was near their end, of GM killing them off. The spectrum is actually a Toyota Corolla, the storm is an isuzu impulse, the tracker is a Suzuki sidekick, the metro was a daewoo or was it a Daihatsu and so forth. Shared stuff with other brands and not eachother. Geo Parts departments must have lost their minds stocking stuff
The Metro was a Suzuki Swift. But the Zuk version had 4 cylinders, not 3. The Chevy Sprint that preceded the Geo Metro was a Daewoo in disguise.

This car is also known as the Isuzu I-mark. Came in 3 door, 4 door. At the same time with the Lotus tuned Isuzu Impulse. GM had a big lineup of Isuzus, Suzukis and Toyotas. Geo Metro, Pontiac Firefly, Geo Tracker, Geo/Chevy Prism (There was a Corolla rebadged as a Nova, lol), Pontiac Vibe were the best cars GM has sold.
Also know as a Holden Gemini
My buddy had a Chevyota Novarolla. When we had four guys in there and it was like a clown car. 5 would have been hilariously awkward. The head liner was totally gone and there was orange faded foam where it had been cut out. But it was a Toyota, and it wouldn't die. I think I remember there being a Geo Corolla at one point, and then later the Pontiac Matrix. Some weird cars rolled out of Fremont.

Look up POS in the dictionary to find this car.
Own an 87 Chevrolet Spectrum Sedan the same blue as this one. Definitely brought back some memories on this interior!
That is absolutely a re-badged Isuzu I-Mark, I used to have an I-Mark turbo, with the little handling by Lotus badges. It was a cool little car.
Misleading title 🙄 Why even lie about this? What has happened to people to think this is acceptable? Just say "Hayabusa Swapped Geo Spectrum" and you'll get the views. This isn't a "GM Experimental Car" it's a one-owner car that survived for nearly three decades before a kid got ahold of it and destroyed it because they couldn't appreciate the sheer miracle of preservation that they were given.
Total fucking clickbait.
This is awesome I actually saw this one on Facebook and sent the link to a friend who had a spectrum as his first car
