Love to show the bad way with no problem but the correct way its like here it is how now go do. Personally, my Moms live in nurse told me to walk downstairs sideways , one foot at a time. That way is stable and easy on the knees. I tried what she said and it does relieve a lot of pain but still some. Miss my Mom too. She passed away little over 7 years ago
Edit: as you do it.that way, make sure you don't cross you legs as you go down. If start with your rt. foot keep stepping down with it first follow by left foot. If start with the left foot the procedure is the same. I hope that helps. I also hope you understand my method.

I had total knee replacement 3 yrs. and moved into a home with stairs. I literally had to force myself into using the stairs as part of my recovery therapy. I’m terrified if the stairs and walk down slowly and sideways holding to the rail. My hips only hurt sometimes at this point. I’m 70 now so when the hips start pushing the issue I will move into a lower bedroom. Knees and hips are never easy to deal with for the aging.

Thanks for info. I also heard the best way to go down and up the stairs to have your legs or knees toward an outerbend rather than a strait forward bend. To help take pressure off hip and knees.

I have osteoarthritis in both knees and find going up much easier than coming down the stairs, for this reason. What I do now, most of the time is to step sideways so the load is in the glutes and also get some inner leg work. I try to alternate the direction at each landing. Bonus, less pain and a leg workout. 👍

Or we can strengthen our tibialis with various exercises and do things such as backward walking/sled pulls so our knees can handle the load adequately.

Yeah right! I just got a knee replacement and I’m super excited that I can go down stairs leading with both legs like a normal person. Nobody walks down stairs like him. If you need to do that you should probably take the elevator.
