Omg now that you've mentioned girlcore toys I was reminded of how as a kid I was bombarded with adverts of stuff like 'put makeup on this mannequin head' and password journals. The creativity of girls toys was definitely lacking in the 2000s for sure
At least we had Polly Pocket and My Little Pony!
LOL yes that's the era of toys that never resonated with me but really seemed to be pivotal to every other girlie pal I had growing up!
The mannequin head has been around since the '70s, at least.

Aww this was so cute reminded me of my childhood when I used to make and design shoes out of play-dough. It was fun to see how much Adam enjoyed this. OMG, Adam's shoe really surprised me! Green is my least favorite color, so I didn't have any high hopes for that, but you did amazing! So much fashion vision! Sorry for overthinking this but this is such a great commentary on gender. Like being forced into one box can be soul crushing, meanwhile getting to explore something that was never on you radar or you were not allowed to play with can be so elating and liberating!
I am non-binary but I was technically a little girl once except I wasn't encouraged to have super girly stuff, like barbie pink things, unicorns, princess stuff, glitter, etc. All that was considered bad. And like for the longest time i thought i couldn't possibly be non-binary or trans because I craaaved those things so much. I love "girly" things. However what did I always hate? Gendered marketing. That shit made me so mad. Even if things targeted at me were what I liked. Out of principle I thought that was stupid. Everyone should just do what they enjoy. F*ck gender roles.

I feel like art and craft kits in general are geared towards girls and it's been something I've noticed for twenty years or so. In the 80's, I remember Crayola having just general art sets - one big one I had had poster paints, markers/felt tips and crayons (that would have been about '88/89, I think) and there were colour changing markers, but they weren't gendered. Then in the late 90's/early 2000's, it shifted to them all art and craft stuff being girly, to such an extent you don't seem to find anything for boys, but even before then, arty stuff seemed to be more acceptable for girls to be seen using. It's daft - I've never understood it.

God this gave me flashbacks to early 2000s marketing- it REALLY was fashion, glitter and a boatload of pink! I'm genuinely kinda surprised it wasn't two pink shoes in there, or at least a purple one. It looked like a lot of fun!

Maybe Steph could crochet some. And Adam could find some instructions for a turn shoe style. If you didn’t feel comfortable with leather then use strong felt and use them as slippers. And of course they would need decorating, which you are now expert at.
