At the 1998 Classic Mechanics Show, Allen Millyard cut up two Kawasaki S1B engines by hand and constructed a 415cc five cylinder engine which he later demonstrated.
What a fantastic piece of engineering, 9 1/2 hours from start to finish and all by hand to make a 5 cylinder engine from 2 three cylinder engines and it starts right up with 4 prods of the kickstarter.......WOW Allen is a total genius and a nice person, to boot! I could watch this over and over again and again, there’s nothing like a 5 cylinder Kawasaki two stroke to waken the senses and enjoy the aroma of two stroke in the air. Hell Yeah Man!!! Freaking amazing.
For those not aware, Sir Allen Millyard recently received the right to append KBE to his name, as he was made Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order Of Brilliant Engineers. During the ceremony, he was struck gently on both shoulders with a torque wrench.
I'm telling you, he is Steve Austins son! (From the 6 Million Dollar Man) I watched him knock out Arnold Schwartzenaggar's son on the playground! He sees things on the back of his eyeballs that keep the hacksaw aligned and cutting on target.
Introducing the secret weapon of mechanical engineering to the public: The Hacksaw. Years before the invention of the next level: The Barbecue. All coming from, ehem, the garden shed. This is incredible and I admire everything I have got to know so far, a lot. He could go big anywhere, MIT, Oxford University, Kawasaki development, a company of his own. But most important, he has been a Superdad as well!
That video explains manhood. Guys standing around an running engine that fullfills no other purpose than running. If u don't get it...there is no way to explain it.
He rebuilds these engines so he can own something common yet unique .... I love his understanding of how to balance his created multi cylinder bikes.... he proved that the T500 wasn’t just two cylinders of a Kawasaki 750 .
Absolutely I agree with you. Allen millyard is a freaking genius. I think I mentioned it to another post or comment I've never seen anybody hacksaw a piece of metal or aluminum that precisely a guy why does my hacksaw blade always turn left or right? I really like his projects.
The snag with all Japanese triples was overheating the middle pot. The 250 and 350 were ok if not souped up but the 500 and above were either ladders like Suzuki 550 or prone to blowing up like the big Kawasakis. The air cooling fins look stunning but they don’t cool effectively across the whole bank.
Totally practical and reliable too... unlike that useless 48 cylinder thing (interesting project but entirely useless). All of Allen's bikes are better than standard in every regard ..
Completely hand built, on the spot!? Very impressive! Love the exhaust note. Reminds me of my old Hodaka 175 Combat Wombat. lol I put a 10" sprocket on it and that thing could climb a pine tree! Amazing low end on those two-strokes! That bike met its demise on a jump-gone-wrong. I hurt some, but the frame and crank case were toast.
Suzuki water cooled their 750 triple to avoid the middle cylinder overheating. They went massively OTT on the engineering but it was reliable. Kawasaki just put bigger carb jets in the middle pot so got a reputation for horrible fuel consumption. I would love to see Allen’s five with water cooling. Edit- Or maybe put a fan in front of each middle cylinder to push cooling air through.
Allen is a rare bird, he doesn't do drawings, he works it out in his head and does it, he seems to know it's going to work, brilliant engineer.
With his laser guided Hacksaw !!!
thank god that this man is alive during the internet...
Allen Millyard can think "outside the box", take action, and accomplish goals better than anyone I have ever seen or heard of.
In my eyes this guy is a genius hands down! 👍
your eyes didn't lie, mine seen the same. my brother has a 223IQ, so i can see genius. The viper engine is sick, Allen the steely eyed missile man.
Incredible skills.. I'm amazed he just uses a hacksaw!
Even Stevie wonder acknowledges that this man is a genius
people cannot comprehend the level of skill required to do what allan does
Most engineers would use machine tools and still make a mess of it.
In fact, yes. Was speaking about Jim recently. And do not know how he can realize that kind of work with basic tools.
the reason you are correct is that he makes it look like its no big deal...
Allan Millyard - a genius, an artist, an engineering wizard and a master craftsman all rolled into one!
What a totally unique craftsman, incredible eye for detail.

Man is both gifted and inspired. Very powerful combination!
Watched 5 videos last night of this guy, he's a clever, talented, inspirational, engineering genius.
Just found him yesterday can watch the same ones time after time sheer genius 👍

I love that, true or not : D
Lee Haelters bit ironic,as I’ve never seen him use a torque wrench yet...i think I would trust him 100% to torque my head down by feel alone!👌
@@supertramp6011 in his latest video on the Honda 1100 I finally saw him use a torque wrench 😊
Ok, but just the same, I'm glad he is not a pediatrician. "Here your go, mum. With four arms, your boy can now play two songs at once on the piano"
Allen Millyard a modest family man working in a small workshop who has a passion. I salute you.
Last time I hacksawed something clamped in a vise, It didn't end up looking like that!
hahaha, indeed!! How does he get it to go straight!!??
Iain Hannay Allan says a particular kind of Bahco hacksaw blade for aluminium plus technique!

You’re a bloody legend! Do what you do until you physically can’t anymore. You are an inspiration to us all. Amazing!

What a truly remarkable man he is.
A particularly gifted lunatic! I love it!
What an absolute genius !👍🏻
Well done for catching the early genius, superb, thank you.
This Guy Does More With A Hacksaw Before 9:00 AM Than Most Of Us Do All Day!! He Could Make A Yamaha TZ-750 Into An 8-Cylinder!!
Genius... I came across a 7 cylinder 2 stroke Kawasaki that’s in the USA that was built by Allen.👍🏻👍🏻
Only Allen Millyard. One of a kind. He should be on the Queen's list of exceptional people to be Knighted.
He is the best at what he does. I don't think another Allen Millyard will ever be.
Absolutely awesome engineering skills. I'm really amazed what Allen can achieve with the gift he has. Well done that man.
Engineering is math and calculations, this is craftsmanship
That video explains manhood.
Guys standing around an running engine that fullfills no other purpose than running. If u don't get it...there is no way to explain it.
I defenently saw and could relate to that testosterone feeling hanging like a fog in the air!
The engine has been in a bike on Guernsey for the last 22 years

When he started it by hand...the look at camera so baddass, so good, so proud. Pure.
What a beautiful sound 2-stroke
This man is a genius I love what he does.
Wow he hand cut them that's some amazing skill
Allen never happier than when hacksawing his way through a crankcase or cylinder head.
my goodness what an engineer
A rare, unique and amazing talent! Respect!
Allen Millyard..unassuming genius
5 cylinder 2 stroke amazing

Allen said that at school he just kept turning up to metalwork so in the end they just let him have a free roam.
I never knew that but I’m not surprised he started young, it’s a gift.
People like AM made British engineering great in years gone by
Modern engineer just let me set up the computer and laser cutter, Allen ... pass me the hacksaw !!!!!
22 years later still going strong . Bravo
want an engine ?? Hold my beer!!
Lol... I got plenty work for him in my garage!
A brilliant engineer!!

Desde entonces hacia estos motores y yo recién lo conozco, Grande !!Alllan Millyard!!
amazing workmanship and an engineering legend, 9 hrs to build a five cylinder then fire her up awesome
The people watching Allen can’t believe their eyes!
It would be an honor to meet Alan, he is a a very talented and passionate Genius
A true mechanical craftsman and a Genious !!
Looking very pleased with himself.. And so he should!
and kudos to kawasaki for the brilliant modular design.
Simply brilliant, imagine being there
He looks like he is 15 years old... lol...
What a craftsman.
Magnífico és um doutor em machine eu adoraria ter um motor desse sou fanático por motor 5 cilindros é o meu sonho valeu amigo parabéns.
we are not worthy ,,, this man is on another level.
Absolutely brilliant
Give that a beer!Amazing to see, sir you can!
What a man.
Muito bom esse rapaz! That guy did by hand! Beutyfull job!
Amazing Allen 👍🏻🇬🇧
He cut the engine with hacksaw and rebuild it like a puzzle what a genius
Absolute genius!
genius! and Humble!
When you see a man with a hacksaw on an engine block you’re like thats fucked then.Allen is no ordinary man,an alien.Incredible.
Allen makes it look easy :)
This man is amazing.
Man put a mini cooper engine in a BSA frame when he was 15
Weirdest thing here is the Motorola ringtone and the fact that people Aren't social Distancing!
I was at that show, I remember seeing Mr Millyard there.
Allen, how do you get to sleep at night with all that ability and ideas bouncing around
What a sound.
Beautiful music
This guy ❤
A God of engineering.
Absolute genius.
Your avatar is sick and offensive and hilarious!
kawasaki needed this man , and still do , grab him now .
Damn,that sounds good
This is particularly interesting. I’d love to know more about the crankshaft arrangement, if you would be willing to go over the subject. Great fun. 😎
Incredible he can knock one up in an afternoon
Brilliant!!!!
Still cutting by hand to this day👍👌
Master craftsman👍👍😉
This man certainly deserves his due but lets remember who developed the original designs that he utilizes.
Great video! Whatever happened to the Yamaha Flat-tracker at 3.12?
engineering genius
Ah, the old "calibrated tap." Used to great effect by RAF Radar techs on the Phantom MCS.
Confident guy..
And it runs fine for the first start...
It’s hard to believe he was young once and still did this stuff….was he born this way?
Wowww
Allen is the only person I know that has a hand-operated CNC hacksaw....
Suzuki water cooled their 750 triple to avoid the middle cylinder overheating. They went massively OTT on the engineering but it was reliable.
Kawasaki just put bigger carb jets in the middle pot so got a reputation for horrible fuel consumption.

Notice how his hacksaw arm is much is much further developed than the left
@allan millyard look Allen when he was young so handsome and pro.
Nice Tee hes wearing
He is certifiable but man, what good work.
I was there.
How long did it take him to do this
Clouds of Castrol 2 stroke
How many onlookers understood what he was doing??
snapcracklepop, the lovely sound of a Kwacker 2 Stroke, brilliant.
And to think I wanted to put a 750 Tripple into a 500cc frame.......
Ty COVID19
Man, I would love to go to a class on how he does that with him teaching.
Genius.
Remember that well
