In this video I show you around my Flying Millyard 5 Litre V Twin, showing how i made some parts of the engine and talk about some features of the bike. My Velocette V Twin is also featured briefly at the end.
Im currently working on Part Two, which will detail the pre flight checks, maintenance, and actual starting procedure, followed by a ride out. - Спорт
I looked in the tank and there was only a drop of petrol left, so I made a drilling rig and a refinery in my back garden over lunchtime.
And I was well pleased with the quality of the petrol.
Perfect!
This guy can make anything!

I needed an alternator, so I made it.
I needed carburators,so I made them.
And on and on and on.
There is a level of brilliance here people need to respect and encourage.
We need to teach this kind of forward thinking to our children.

If you can think of it, you can make it.
And it can look and work like artwork.

I'm an Australian motor mechanic for 13 years and retraied as a plumber for 25 years I have never seen anything like yourself, I am so impressed a guy in his back yard could pull off the wizardry you perform, please keep up what you do,. I have 10 motorbikes myself, myself and my 14 year old boy loves to watch what you're up to.

I'm installing a new stator in my Triumph Tiger 955i. I can hear Allen's voice as I remove old gasket, "It's worth taking your time so both faces can be clean and smooth."

Mixture is controlled by raising/lowering the fuel bowls... *that* blew my mind, among many other things.

Someday the rest of us may get to enjoy seeing these amazing machines in the flesh - a fantastic example of engineering and what can be made with a persons own hands.

Allen is one of that rare breed of brilliant engineers that can just bring a vision to life in their shed. Im genuinely in awe of his work.
It's hard to express how impressed I am with Allen's ability and modesty. True genius is rare, especially in academia, yet here it is in all it's glory embodied in Allen.

Noticed after multiple visits to the UK and England in particular most peoples' hobbies there seem to embrace some manner of constructive challenge; be it a mechanical endeavor, improving the back garden, or even planning a trip abroad to gain knowledge of some other culture.
Here in America most use their leisure time to engage exclusively in some mindless tripe like video games or watching sports.

I feel compelled to point out, for those who have newly discovered this channel, that only last year Sir Allen was awarded his KBE, made Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of Brilliant Engineers. By me.
Every time I watch one of Alan's videos, I'm completely stunned at the level of his workmanship. Unbelievable stuff and I feel really privileged that Alan is sharing his knowledge.

The Velocette Vee twin is sublime and to use it to get fuel for the Five Litre Flying Millard is more than most of us could imagine. You are a fortunate fellow Allen, to have the talents you have developed. The rest is down to the sweat of your brow, and you deserve everything you have. It’s great to be able to watch you go about such chores to get ready for a ride that most of us would sell their Mother In Law for. We are all enriched by hanging onto the shirt tails of Mr. Millard.
When I was an apprentice in the UK (Fairey) I was in complete awe of toolmakers like this. It's not just their incredible machining skills, but the thought behind it all. If one bothered to listen, they were a well of information. Sadly, the industrial base and all that went with it are gone.
Britain can return to its glory, there is a market for this type of machine

I trained and worked as a mechanical engineer,milling,turning,sheet metal work,precision grinding and fitting.We were always making stuff for our cars and bikes. Great skills to have but harder for young people to get into nowadays.The jobs just aren't there since UK manufacturing was run down in the 80's
There were several small,medium and large engineering firms near where I live they all went over 25/ 30 years ago.The sites are now car washes,Amazon warehouses and service industry sites.

This is what happens when a talented engineer refuses to hear any naysayer's endless doubting or "you'll never manage to make that work". Very much like John Britten, Helmut Fath and others of their unique breed. Do keep the good work up, Allen. It is an absolute joy to see these projects.

I follow lots of channels on UA-cam. I never get to watch everyone's videos without skipping through. Allen is the exception. Such a brilliant man who is so fascinating to watch!!

This is a masterpiece.
Watch the brass throttle slides on 1/4 speed for what seems like magic. Has anyone ever seen anything as beautifully built as all the detail engineering on this bike? As a whole it is even better than the sum of the parts...which is impossible because they are perfection in themselves.

Love the fact it’s clean but not too clean, beautifully used.
I only wipe it down with an oily rag and polish the tank I’m trying to age it’s aperance
I did that on one of my old bikes too Allen, gives a nice sheen and protects the metalwork as a bonus.

Hi Allen, you Sir have completed a great day for me, I have been on a river trip up the Thames, looking at Tower Bridge, Tower of London etc etc, all world class engineering marvels. Then I get home, and your video is here, and 4 words stand straight out to me stamped into the Velocette and your Flying Millyard machine, and they are "Made in England" & "Millyard". We are so engrossed in current events around the world it's easy to forget we have engineering skills and people like you Allen, turning out motorcycles with 2 cylinders of a plane engine like it's a Sunday project, and so many fantastic machines. It's that vision that enables you to stamp it with Millyard, that can make us all proud that it's been Made in England Allen. Truly impressive, I for one am grateful you've used this awful Covid time to make some inspirational UA-cam vids. I was lucky enough to stand next to you when you fired this beast up on a cold morning at the National Motorcycle museum. Please keep doing what you're doing.

I have watched this a few times now . Finally got another bike from dads junkyard it shows promise . Might have it going come spring I am 63 now dad will be 90 come spring . Still chops wood for heat God bless him .
As a lifelong biker and engineer, I tell you right now that on your up there with my hero of Isambard Kingdom Brunel and I do not say that lightly. There are very few real talented people who have graced this earth and for you to live in my lifetime is a joy beyond words. 🇬🇧
No CAD, a pencil drawing with the cylinders laying on a bench to design the crankcases, conrods, crank, alternator, clock... I could go on and on.. I was actually laughing out loud in astonishment, seriously...
When I'm building in my shop I always use cad.

@@spurgear4 That's what I did to mount an aluminum pulley to a wooden band saw wheel, I got the angle on a cardboard then transferred to the pulley inside angle , voila, but not a Millyard by any degree!
Allen you are a GOD of creation when it comes to motorcycles in my considered opinion, deep respect.
Every one of Allen's videos I watch I am sitting shaking my head constantly with a big smile on my face. I honestly don't know how you do it! There seems no problem you cannot overcome.
When skill and imagination come together in biblical quantities, this is the result. A gift to both engineering and art.
Brilliant. When I watch these videos I always picture Allen at work creating an HG Wells time machine.
The more I watch your videos the more convinced I am that you're a genius and a proper legend, I oriented my career on a different path but I wish I could become an engineer like you, it is amazing what you can do, I'm inspired!

Every day something should make you smile, this was mine by a country mile! I had the good fortune to see this wonderful machine at the Cassington Bike show some years back. I was in awe of Allen's talents then and still am! Looking forward to episode two!

This is my favorite Millyard build. I’m imagining a cartoon of Allen saying “whatever “ and miming brushing dust off his shoulder to a bunch of bored and stroked Harley owners. PS the downhill race bike was second.
I see the evolution of these builds from the relatively “simple” 2 strokes to the more complex V twins. This aero engine build seems to have benefited from a few happy coincidences, the machining of parts in the lathe and mill that just fit, the alternator output current and the convenient radius of the Atco brass flywheel. The guessing of flywheel balance factor and the carburettor jetting is experience and skill and the iPod charge socket is “icing” . I’m not surprised this machine has achieved so many accolades

At 13:53, that is such a beautiful sound. I had to replay that part as I found the sound so addictive. I bet when park up or visit a petrol station, you get a lot of interest.

What you are doing in a home workshop is out of this world, I think a lot of people really don´t get how much knowledge it takes, and how much work it takes as well.
You see all these asian vidoes, with a guy putting together two engines, and it starts and makes noise and then people thinks it actually works.
To make it actually work like you do, takes so much more work and skills.
I love that you can see the bike is being used, that is what it´s all about, too many people are making furnitures, that looks somewhat good but is useless.
Just need a wing and propeller and its ready to fly, one of the most beautiful motorcycle that ive ever seen👏👍

Allen your skill never ceases to amaze me! That was a real treat here's looking forward to Part Two.
I'm just blown away by your talent and audacity. I mean, audacity with skills must feel normal to you, but the amount of precision craftsmanship that goes into your creations are just out of this world. The most exotic I've ever done was overboring my classic mini and my 1977 CB Twin while putting custom ground camshafts, and I felt like the king of the world went it started right and produced exactly as much power as I thought it would, but you are on a level I've never seen before, and I know guys that make 130 bhp minis.
What a complete and utter genius this man is! If anyone doubts the engineering talent still left in Britain, they should look at this man's wonderful creations.
1 minute in and I am gob smacked ... and then again ... and again ... and again .... 40+ years ago I did my apprenticeship adjacent to a top class machine shop. I was always amazed at what they could make but Millard takes it to a whole new level. Carburetors are not working - OK - No sweat - I'll make my own. It's the totality of the package = Epic!

I am struggling not to go on about your abilities and your wonderful skillset but I seriously doubt that there's anyone about today that even comes close to your dexterity and comprehension of the workings of motors and their parts and the fabrication thereof. You remind me alot of my grandfather who died 21yrs ago aged 94. He too had an unfathomable understanding of the in outs of machinery and electrics. He spent his entire life rebuilding cars and motorbikes, televisions and radios for the locals from his workshop (shed in the back garden and the front living room of his house). I think that you would have been fast friends had you known each other.
That motorbike is so beautiful and is such a fantastic achievement, well done to you, what a very enjoyable post, you have filled me with joy.

I'm an Aussie and was lucky enough to help build using the last two cylinder from a 5 litres Rolls Royce Merlin engine with my mate Lucky Keizer who would regularly do work for me on my motorcycle.
Wonderful man and so was his dad who I regularly worked for now and then building roads for new subdivisions and carpark ect back in the late 70s
