    4:06 And another option (alternative to the tape, that will deteriorate and damage the cloth), iron instead a double-sided fabric tape and flip the border over.

    I have been cross stitching for a very long time. I do not use a hoop for the most part. If it were me, I would find the center square and actually start the cross stitching prior to placing the piece in the Q-Snap. This way, there is no concern about where the center square is located after the fact. Just a suggestion.

    I always prepare a grid on my fabric that mimics the lines on the pattern. I use a light colored sewing tread , with the needle moving front to back, or back to front, every ten squares. So, determine the location of one of the corners. The first line is UP, DOWN, UP, DOWN etc every ten squares. The second line is ten squares over, DOWN, UP, DOWN, UP etc. The third line is ten squares over UP, DOWN, UP, DOWN . After the project is complete, remove the thread. I make less mistakes because every stich can be located in relation to other elements in the partern and to the location on the grid.

    Definitely find and mark the starting point (center or corner) before loading it into the qsnap. I'm not sure if it's just me, but I have a bear of a time getting my fabric out of a qsnap brand qsnap. I'm always afraid it will tear my fabric. Great beginner video, but even though I have done cross stitch for over 40 years I still learn something. I was self taught so there's always something to learn. I never used a Q Snap so it was interesting to see it. I started out years ago with a spring metal hoop and then to the wooden hoops. Now I change back and forth from the wood to just stitching without anything after watching you these last several months.

    I had trouble cutting down to 11x11. My husband had to do it. Lol. Is there a recommended set of rulers to use?( I’m using a rotary blade and cutting mat. )💛🌹💛

    • @nancy-katharynmcgraw2669
      @nancy-katharynmcgraw2669 2 роки тому +2

      Using a 12" square ruler may help you visualize the 11" square better.
      You could just cut a piece of cardboard 11" x 11" square, place it on the fabric, mark the cut line with a mechanical ✏ pencil, then use the rotary cutter & thick enough ruler, or use scissors to cut on the 11" line.
      Cardboard from a cracker package that is bigger that 11" square would work, then cut the cardboard to an 11" square.
      Cutting on corrugated cardboard is thicker, but a wee bit more difficult to cut, but it works, too!
      Uding the mat to get the 11" square: lay the fabric in the lower left corner where 0 (zero) would be...so you have a 90°angle at the left side & bottom side of the fabric.
      Using the ruler on the bottom edge of mat, find 11 ". Use the ruler on the left side of the mat & find 11".
      Place the rotary ruler along (parallel to) the left side of the fabric, the move it to the right until it lines up with 11" along the bottom mat ruler @ 11".
      Cut upwards on the fabric until you have cut 11"... then you can cut across to the left 11", so you now have the 11" x 11" square of fabric.
      You can always rotate the mat & fabric (as one piece) clockwise so you only cut away from yourself.

    I have never heard of a Q Snap before. I will need to look into this. How do you find the center of your fabric with it on the Q Snap?

    • @brendachauvin9482
      @brendachauvin9482 2 роки тому +8

      Marking your center after you iron it is important. Fold or measure to find the center. I mark mine with a stitch of bright color sewing 🧵 thread. Do you not put a knot in it. You will remove it once you have done a few stitches and no longer need it for reference, or before you stitch over it. @Dare2Dream Big

    • @nancy-katharynmcgraw2669
      @nancy-katharynmcgraw2669 2 роки тому +1

      Fold the fabric in half, then fold that in half again so you have a 1/4the size of fabric. Look at that "package" now & see that you have loose edges & folded edges. On one side there will be a corner will have 2 folded edges, on the adjacent side will be a thicker fold. Where that point of the corner is, that is the center of your fabric.
      You can use a thread color not in the project to make an X-stitch, or use a curved safety pin...as many quiltmakers use for pin basting the quilt... Leave that center indicator in place until you have completed X-stitching 3 sides around the center as you get to it (if starting in the upper left of the design, then remove the thread/safety pin & continue to stitch with the called for thread color in that space.

    • @FatQuarterShopFlossTube

      Hello Joanie! We recommend using a 1.5 or 2.0 stitch length. You can find the center by folder the cloth in half and then in half again - crease the folds - where the folds create a center point is your center. Kimberly shows how to do it in this video beginning at 16:39: ua-cam.com/video/CcNuSQpfC-E/v-deo.html. You can use the cross stitch key if you’re starting in the corner. You’ll still have enough room if you leave a 2.5” border.

      Using the 6x6 frame just means you have to reposition the fabric when you get to that area.
      Assume you start in the upper left corner, place the Q-snap frame so you have room to begin the border stitches...hence the 3 additional inches...
      When you X-stitch to the right & run out of room, just reposition the fabric so you can stitch on the right upper corner.... or....
      Finish the right side later...
