- It is a challenge for people who wear religious headwear on a daily basis to find a bike helmet which fits, leading to Sikh adults and children struggling to decide what to prioritize when participating in some activities.
An Ontario mother has designed what's believed to be a first-of-its-kind multisport helmet for Sikh children, which can be worn safely without having to remove religious headwear.
Neetu Garcha reports on the potentially life-changing invention which could bridge safety with diversity.

Turban seems like a great place to hide stash
Looks like a smurf.
You just un locked one of life’s biggest mysteries!!!!!! What’s under a Smurf’s hat !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good for her. See a need, fill a need. Way to be a mom! 👍
If a turban is considered a motorcycle helmet why not let the young ones
I am a scientist with over a decade of experience with helmet design. The helmet this mom came up with has serious design issues and can significantly increase the risk of head injury and concussion as well as neck injury. I urge her or anyone else not to use this helmet model if their kids' safety is their first priority.
I think the point is more about being different and diverse more than about safety. This is the clown world in which we live
That's not the only issue, wait for the on road comments coming your way !
Yuuup, why it's said to never wear a hat under your helmet. The foam doesn't seem like it will be of any use. The helmet looks super awkward too. Kids would be better off without, BUT there has to be a better solution for a proper helmet. Just I know it will make for a giant helmet.
Finally!!!!
Now do motorcycle helmets!!!!❤❤❤
Pffffffft I bought a turban off eBay so I could ride without a helmet
Even in wars we don't use helmet we wear damala
I initially thought the extra ball on top of helmet is LED light with battery.... but it is for decoration only....
So the kids can't show their hair but the mother shows hers... and she obviously cuts/styles her hair and eyebrows.
They can show their hair, a turban is like a crown, not a hijab.
@@googleuser7100 so take it off then... And use a normal helmet. Makes no sense
@@truth5761 well it symbolizes the creation of god and how out prophets (gurus) gave us a crown of following gods will. It’s not as simple as that. We can’t just take it on and off again and again multiple times during the day.
@@googleuser7100 do they not wash their hair?
@@gean4890 yes Sikhs wash their hair,
Every single day it is mandatory. Usually they wash their hair every morning, tie a patka or dastaar and then take it of at night before bedtime.
being inclusive...it's such a Canadian ideal....
Thanks!
What’s the difference between forcing a woman to where a hijab and this?
Who says they’re being “forced?”
@@sportsguydave6201 the law
That's just asking for those kids to be bullied...
I’m sure they do already, but okay
They ride in packs
That’s why multiculturalism is a mistake. They should go back where they belong.
@@simoncarrier9910 okay boomer, stay victimized
Am I wrong, I always thought it was pronounced " seek". It sounds like you were talking about sick kids.
We live in USA , can we order that helmet
In the end, the helmet will be made in China , bcoz in Canada it will cost $25/h for each worker who makes it vs China’s $2-3/h. Net result is Canada will not benefit from this , probably people should have a private workshop to make/manufacture stuff tailored to their needs.
Im a UA-cam premium member and was listening to this afk. I thought why would sick kids need a different helmet? Then I turned the screen on and I was like ohhhhhhhh
‘Seeeekh’ not ‘sick’.
It also works great with smurf hats
With a bouncy hairstyle like this, who needs a helmet?
Nice 😍
It's a great idea, just its sadly safer for them to go without that helmet. I help teach underprivileged kids how to downhill skateboard and we have a couple kids that wear similar head wear (not trying to be disrespectful, just know there is multiple types of religious turban.) Most the kids are Hindu, so they wear a xl helmet, just sikh have troubles. This mother is in the right direction, but that helmet will cause more harm than good. She sacrificed needed foam to look less bulky, helmets are gonna look bulky regardless. Like that looks like a thin layer of spray foam vs the thick pads used even in multi-impact skateboard helmets. The top bit would definitely cause issues for neck injuries. A better design would be to actually partner with a helmet company that has decades of r&d and make a proper safe helmet. I could it be along the lines of having the footprint foam absorber helmet pads, then have hole at top for the fabric to stick out a bit because it would move and not be a rigid surface. You need to protect the skull, not fabric. Again, it's great someone finally is try to take this issue on, but what she made isn't good enough to properly protect. She REALLY needs to contact a company like protech, triple 8, predator, s1, or Giro to help her make a proper helmet. I could see more the skateboard based helmet companies help her as skateboarding is a very welcoming to anyone willing to learn, so a skateboard based helmet company would be more inclined to help out. She just has to be able to take the safety feedback, instead of seeing it as her way is the only way like most parents do, think of her kids safety first before anything else. She's definitely in the right direction.
Awesome
How low will we fall😂?
This lady needs to relax a little. It's good to be enthusiastic but you don't want to scare people
Make one for cricket and American football
I have concluded they must put a ice pack in there turbans. Try wearing a winter wear in summer!!
A more common sense approach : remove the rag before riding a bike or playing hockey,
then the normal helmets will fit perfectly.
not sure you understand the sikh customs
@@mrwinston_thepug Actually Nanak Dev Ji states that all religions are to be considered as important as your own and should be respected. Where are you getting your information from, besides of course your fragile little mind projecting a victim complex on a global news video?😂

Are those helmets allowed on school playgrounds?
Need is mother of invention. Specifically, when a mother is an inventor.
Very nice ji its very good ji our kids can progress they can go any games they can't set home watching TV you did very good job for the kids God bless you 🙏
Even the girls can go ice hockey they tie their long hair good 👍 👌
Sick kids is right!!!!!!!!!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Those helmets are not safe
Safer than no helmet.
You just made that up out of whole cloth. What testing facility did you get your information from?
and..how would you know!!
@@BigBore525x Have you ever seen any helmet shaped like that before? No? Well that's because if that design was safe you would have seen it by now.
@@almartinez13 But not as safe as without a turban and wearing a proper helmet
what amazing journalism during a time of war in Ukraine
Lmao
Very smart!
Good for you mom!!!
She is far away from concept of sikhi.
I like it. Everyone should be safe
Sick kids? 😅 in the UK it's pronounced Seek

Very cool. It's pronounced Seek. Not Sick. Get some Kickstarter funding.
The news reporter is Sikh herself, she is pronouncing it correctly.
Make ones for the adults riding around with towels.

I'm happy all kids have safety equipment, but all parents should realize all religions are dangerous.
What do you mean Sikhism is an exception
It’s not a religion only it’s also our culture.
@@randhawaz1 mmmmm
@Hawkeye A "culture " that dictates a uniform and sees women as property/second class citizens is a cult/religion.
I love this channel's comment section. Bigots are so easy to trigger and it's so much fun to watch them have a tantrum. 🍿
You would know.
@@primmakinsofis614 good one?
Not all the comments are bigot comments. It's a great idea to make a helmet for sikh kids and adults, but she definitely didn't go get proper professional help. The top part is gonna cause neck issues and the foam inside is just like a generic Walmart helmet, so the foam won't dampen the head with layer of fabric between. There is foam out there that would do that, it's used in insoles like footprint insoles have. Not everyone's a bigot who disagrees with the helmet, could see this turning out good with enough time, just let's just hope no kid is injured as a result of the helmet. As someone with a traumatic brain injury, i really want to see this mother to succeed in the safest way possible. A injury caused by the helmet would put hault to that and she would be used as a example to make people feel this venture is not doable.
A hockey helmet battering ram, cool.
pronounced seek, not sick. 🤪
