www.freethetone... FREE THE TONE’s high sound quality digital delay “FLIGHT TIME” with the world’s first Realtime BPM Analyzer and Delay Time Offset features, reappears with even more improvements!
Responding to strong requests from players all over the world, the FLIGHT TIME FT-2Y is now being introduced as the successor to the FT-1Y (FLIGHT TIME) that ended production in 2016. For the FLIGHT TIME FT-2Y, we have redesigned not only the analog and power supply circuits but also the digital circuits and firmware to realize dramatic improvements in sound quality. While keeping all of the FT-1Y’s ample feature set (including the world’s first Realtime BPM Analyzer*1, *2, Delay Time Offset features, etc.), the FT-2Y has further advanced in both sound quality and functionality with the addition of instrument/line level switching, instant preset switching, MIDI out function. Pursuing higher sound quality and ease of use we concentrated the latest technologies of FREE THE TONE upon this unparalleled delay effects unit “FLIGHT TIME FT-2Y”. Experience its sound!

That Kid A cover totally took me by surprise! It would have been cool to hear the whole tune fleshed out like that.

Way can't all digital delay pedals have a BPM screen on them? It makes studio recording much easier.

Before anyone gets needlessly excited over the high audio quality, here are some numbers: 24-bit sampling gives you a 144 dB signal to noise ratio. That's a pretty darn low noise floor. In fact, the physical limitations of circuit boards design give you a realistic constraint of 123 dB of SNR, which you can cover with a 21-bit depth - but computer folks love to divide by 8.
32-bit depth is nothing but marketing. Those extra 8 bits encode noise or just flat out zeroes. Unless you care deeply about the ambient noise you circuit creates 100dB below your signal level, then 32-bit is exactly as high precision as 24-bit. I am _irked_ by this sort of marketing.
Great demo, though, and great tones out of this.

32-bit float point processing is not the same as 32-bit integer AD/DA conversion. Most professional effects plugins are 32 bit (or higher) for better processing accuracy and fewer artifacts.

But 32-bit float point processing is nothing better than what any plugin or even smartphone application can already do... for this the effect here, this is completely useless spec point; we're not in 1990 anymore...

Martin Krauser wait now...this is a guitar pedal right? At which point do the nukes launch or airplanes start falling out of the sky when I hit the wrong button?

For the asking price, it could release a kraken or two.

I think guitar pedals have been slow to catch up. Strymon and others advertise their 32-bit DSP as well.
For what it's worth, I actually own the FT-1Y and it has the best fidelity of any non-rack delay effect I've encountered. For the price it would have been nice to have dual delay lines, though.

Apart from the display(s), this does nothing that my Empress Tape Delay, T-Rex Replica, or Source Audio Nemesis can't do (the last one has no dry-through but that's only a problem in wet/dry, and there are solutions).
Future Factory seems like it's worth the $$.

I've been watching the videos of Mike Hermans for years, and out of hundreds of pedal demos, this is the 1st that the sound quality is not the pristine, almost crystal clear I've come to expect and appreciate so much. Very dark, muddy, with no detail at all. And that would be necessary for such a a hi-fi (&expensive) delay, with that pristine sound as its major selling point. What happened here?

Stella demo. As always. Superb playing. Quick question, I've heard this pedal can self oscillate but never seen a demo of this. Is the volume boost you normally get when doing this limited or do you have to adjust the volume down manually? Also can you pitch shift the oscillation by altering the BPM/MS setting ... bit like twisting the time knob on a DD2 or El Capistan? Many thanks

For live use, is there an easy way to access presets ? For instance, if you have 4 presets you have programmed for one particular gig. How can you easy select Preset 1-4 ?. It is impossible to do a whole Fred Astaire fandango with a series of footswitch presses. Can a simple Boss midi switch scroll through the 4 presets ? thankyou for your your advice.

Can someone who knows about the pedal, please tell me, does the FT-2Y have any extra features and benefits over the FT-1 ?. ta cheers

tweed guitar - the main improvements are that the second version can take a line level signal I.e you can put it in your amps effects loop and it has midi out so you can back up your patches. It also had a mode for instant switching between two favourites; but Free The Tone have just released a firmware update to do that on the FTY1. I have the first version. It's great.
