This is basically the switch pro that people wanted. The only downside is no Nintendo exclusives, but when you look at all the games exclusive to pc, or how Xbox exclusives like halo infinite or gears 5 are already on steam and lots of ps exclusives like death stranding or days gone have found their way onto steam plus their are AAA games like control or jedi fallen order that a switch isn't powerful enough to run that we have seen the steam deck run it becomes crystal clear that the steam deck is such an all-around improvement on the switch. And that's ignoring all the emulation potential and the backlog from previous generations that pc gaming has. Just think, on the steam deck you can play both Half-Life from 1998 and halo infinite from 2021 (given the game has a well optimised pc port).
@@jonathanarocho893 Shit yeah I didn't even think about that, since I just don't play switch or Nintendo games at all. But as long as switch emulation works well it's basically a superior device in every way and isnt crazily more expensive than a switch.

Even if you get the base model, if you can get your hands on a cheap but large microSD card, you could maybe dual boot this thing between SteamOS and Windows, etc., or dual boot explicitly to an emulator environment. Alternatively, you could load up a few larger games on the microSD, and then when done, take them off and load another one on. Re-writable cartridges, essentially.

There are so many games that don’t require much visual power that I would pay so much to play outside of my home. IF this works out, I’m ditching the switch
Bro, this thing puts the switch to shame 😂😂.. it actually makes me laugh how far behind Nintendo is
Having the ability to play Halo 3 on the go has been my dream since it's release. If I met 13 year old me and told him that we now have handheld gaming PCs we can carry around and it can play the entire Halo trilogy, he would flip his shit!
As someone who waited for a switch pro, I decided eh maybe I will just get a ps5 digital.. but this is it baby a fucking ps4 in your hands at 15w!
I'd love to see the faces on Nintendo execs at this point.
Chances are they are not batting an eye. As killer as this is, its not eating anything out of Nintendo's market. This is going up against the likes of the AYA neo.
You know there are other systems right?
Maybe this will make Nintendo get their shit together, WE WANT ZELDA REMAKES DAMMIT. Lol, but yea i feel like some competition in the handheld gaming market could make Nintendo up the ante.

Im the exact opposite. I havent owned a console other than the 3ds since 2012. My steam library however is massive. Finally getting a semi capable gaming machine i can play while resting my neck on a pillow, without buying into a whole new switch ecosystem and buying new games, that sounds ungodly. Ill be mashing the reload button to get that max storage version.
Scarlet Nexus, Nier Automata, Tales of Arise, and other future AAA JRPG on this will be so sweeeeet
The price, the power relative to its form, the soundness of Valve allowing it to be an open platform. This is an extremely appealing device.

I'll be getting the steamdeck 100 percent
I have never been more exited for a “console” release in my life. The sky is the limit, I’m most interested for the OS implementation of your choice for emulation and cyber security. Valve have been quiet for the better half of a decade but this is an absolute colossal power move. We could be seeing the infancy of technological requiem.
Agreed. Although I see lots of people trashing on it and praising it at the same time over on twitter, but I have huge hopes for this device, I really hope it becomes a success. If the reviews are good when it releases then I'm definitely planning to buy one.
Valve or Gabe said hes hoping for a new category to open up for this so that other manufacturers can come join in. He's testing the waters and really hoping it skyrockets! I don't think they mind competitors at all. And that's good for us consumers. Really hoping everyone buys one so it doesn't get dropped (I don't think it will just saying its always plausible with them) its so good!
If this goes well, It will open more gates for developer to makes for Linux as well. I like this move.
Also playing CK3 on the go? That would be my reason to grab this one if I can get my hands on it.
It's funny, I was just about to go to bed, but I wished I could keep playing my pc games and this gets revealed. I love my switch and I love my PC and this is just the perfect marriage and I want it!
We know Nintendo fans are going to be more skeptical of this than Switch OLED.
I don't think it's just Nintendo fans lol.
They aren't the brightest
Well, I don't think the 400$ variant is worth it. The storage is too small and too slow. Everyone who really wants to game on this should get the 529$ variant with the SSD.
It would be slower yes, but you can save that money and get a 1tb microSD. It's good for people who are on a budget/new to PC gaming.
GameCube emulation is going to be great on this
If that thing allows me to install GAme Pass for PC, then I am pre-ordering tomorrow.
It does, you just have to dl Windows and its basically a desktop in handheld mode.Confirmed via the IGN interview with Valve Developers

Yuzu and Ryujinx on this could be very interesting... I also love the look, it's like a game gear ME RIKEY
They really flexed on nintendo haha
What I see here is the perfect competitor to Nintendo and their not so admirable OLED model. Pc gaming and therefore Steam gaming is global. They have footholds in any major region on the globe. Accessibility is there, the price point is up there, especially the higher tier. But at your base model you’ve got a handheld for $50 more than an OLED Switch that just absolutely blows it out of the water. You know what I’m hoping? I hope this reveal sets Nintendo back a bit, very much hoping it will humble them even in the slightest. Put the pressure on and maybe, just maybe they will go back to the drawing board. One can only hope. But this is good, competition is very good. Can’t wait to see if Nintendo has any response to this.
Emulating and playing low spec steam games on the go with this will be amazing.
IGN said mid to high specs smoothly
@Gabriel Eder When I said low spec I meant low requirments to run well. My bad.
Seems interesting. Might admire from afar but not really in the market for something like this.
Curious if this is targeted for PC folks who want PC on the go or if it’s for folks who aren’t PC and want to dip into that realm.
I'm the latter, I definitely want this and it'll be my first dive into the PC realm
I'm the former, I want to be able to game on the road or in places I can't take my PC. I think its a smart move and appeals to both audiences, will be ordering tommorow.
Both im guessing. My buddy who doesn't want to get into researching, building, and buying parts for there computer can be overwhelming but still wants to experience the PC master race is definitely buying this. Where as for me, im getting it cause fuck yea, its a mobile PC basically

@@Gramini That's why I said dual OS. For stuff that won't run on Linux (Proton) I'll switch to Windows
@@LoliNoxTan Oh, yes, I might have overread that somehow. I'm curious how well Windows will play with the dual boot. It likes to overwrite the bootloader with it's own that only boots Windows. We'll have to see when it is released.
Man, I wish Nintendo wasnt so incompetent. The Steam Deck needs to be a major wakeup call for them.
It wont be long before people realize that the only thing Ninetendo does well is make Mario and Zelda games.
Nintendo isn’t incompetent they’re just trying to maximize profits. And that’s coming from someone extremely disappointed the swoled can’t get to 4k while docked.
I hope I don't get hate for this but I was never interested on Mario and the Zelda games. I still praised the switch for what it was because it is a portable console with dock system if its not the lite version. I had a PSP and that was amazing for me. I couldn't stomach getting a switch for the game prices but it just wasn't for me. So this steam deck is just what I need and I have a steam library. I can't believe its here! Something I needed but did not know was possible. (with the price range) And if this didn't come out I'd be rethinking getting a switch again with the oled. Now thats under the bus! (For me)
Yep, and I don't even really like those games. So many better open world rpg than BotW. I've been waiting for a FO:NV port, and now I don't have to!
Anyone want to buy a v2 Switch? 😅
@@yaboyCombo Nintendo is both lazy and incompetent. They dont maximize profit, they do the bare minimum work needed to make profits. Nintendo has multiple billion dollar IP's with some of the greatest retro games of all time and they wont even sell them to you.
The only thing that worries me is the price. Not because I'm not willing to pay it, but because I really want one. & if scalpers get their hands on these before I can get one, THAT price will definitely make me skip this.
U can preorder for 5 dollars on the store if u have bought something from steam prior to June 2021 which I have. Or you'll have to wait 48 hours I'm going pre-order as soon as I wake up at 3 aclock.
Valve will implement Steam reservation system. One unit per Steam account. Only people with games in their Steam account (purchased before June?) will be able to reserve the device tomorrow. Everyone else has to wait 48 hours before reservation. Brilliant if you ask me.
So yeah. I guess that whole "one pre order per account" didn't really matter. Because I still couldn't get one & scalpers are already asking for up to $5K. This is the exact situation that I was worried about. Guess I'm not getting one because I'm not paying these outrageous scalper prices. Fuck that.
The Switch is so crappy in comparison now that the Steam Deck is coming out.
It's a blessing from heaven, I've been dreaming of a portable PC in the form of a handheld console for a long time.
If I can also run some Windows software on it, I'll buy the most expensive model right away
One thing I haven’t heard anyone talk about is overheating, I wonder how hot this thing’s gonna get
its only running up to 15w and looks chunky enough to house a decent cooling solution... hopefully.
Not gonna preorder for this and the os. Steam OS is still not great and was terrible at launch. I wanna get this but I feel there will be launch issues with the hardware and software that a later purchase will protect against. Ill let others be Valves ginea pigs rather than get burned again (I purchased a steam controller and steam link early and that died so quick.
@@libidinalmaterialist9470 you can wipe it day one and just add your own os they said that
@@libidinalmaterialist9470
Steam OS 3 is nothing like the old Steam OS.
This one is based off Arch Linux and will be running Steam with proton. Most Windows games will work and the games will run faster under Linux than Windows.
@@libidinalmaterialist9470 Except this Version of SteamOS is completely new, from the ground up (old one was based on Debian, this is based on Arch). After all these years, there were ton of improvements.
My feeling is a bit of skepticism. Sounds promising, but Valve has a history of sucking at support for their hardware (Steam Machines the best example). I'd take a wait and see approach to see how committed Valve is with this thing.
I can see this getting me into pc gaming
Join us lol!
@TeamItalia🇮🇹 did you reserve it?
@TeamItalia🇮🇹 sweet! Which one did you reserve?
I'm a Nintendo fan boy and love the Switch buuuut I'm most definitely picking this up. The emulation possibilities alone got me. Glad I was able to reserve a 64 gb model. Tried to get the higher memory model but couldn't.
This is perfect! There are so many games I like that are lighter weight to run that don’t have a Switch version.
Also, Persona 4 Golden 720p and 60 fps on a handheld 👀👀👀
The hardware being relatively powerful and not software/hardware locked is the main reason I'm interested in this console. If I get one I would install a full Linux distribution and a bunch of emulators on it. With a bluetooth keyboard and mouse that would be a also a decent portable PC.
It is also like a nice "NUC" imho
Its using KDE Plasma IIRC
No need to install one on your own, it comes with a full Arch + KDE install.
This blows the switch out of the way!
Those are full sized thumb sticks. Its a HUGE device. Not sliding it in your pocket like you can with the switch "if you have man pockets" But.. Its got a lot more going for it.
It's good to see some competition in the handheld market.
This announcement made me so happy I damn near needed an inhaler. 😂😂😂! I originally bought a switch to take with me on vacations and to have during my lunch break at work. Although I love the switch, it seems like Nintendo has been ignoring what us gamers want.
Then today, this bombshell gets announced! Can’t wait to see how it turns out. Hopefully scalpers won’t find a way around steams clever reservation system.
They'd have to pay $5 per reservation. Could get costly depending on how many they are trying to scalp
of course the one thing people are not thinking of is how the steam deck is to citadel as the index was to Half Life: Alyx. this makes a ton of leaks around valves next game make a ton more sense. considering how there was both touchscreen style inputs and VR support rumored for it.
I can't wait to play Halo on the move. Did anyone think about this? This is essentially a Microsoft handheld...
It is a rainbow, joker card, wildcard, anything handheld. It's pretty nice.
Compared to the Swich, this thing seems like a beast. So many possibilities!
It'll be an emulation beast
I have always been a handheld person. I love the intimacy of it and the personalized experience of handhelds. So when this was announced I got really excited, I will be getting the middle SKU and just buy a 512GB microSD card to add more storage. I only use about 400GB on my actual PC anyway and always uninstall the games I am no longer playing anymore.
i think its cool
but my last handheld was the gameboy color
so probably nothing for me. at home i have my pc and ps4
and its way to big to fit into a pocket to use it outside
but i like the idea and maybe we could use handhelds with cloudgaming in the future
Nobody seems to be talking about its biggest strength over the switch: no joy con drift in 70% of controllers
Only time will tell
because we dont know if it drift yet
All sticks, for all consoles, made by same manufacturer. Look it up.
Enter a Nintendo switch emulator
@@jonathanarocho893 Shit yeah I didn't even think about that, since I just don't play switch or Nintendo games at all. But as long as switch emulation works well it's basically a superior device in every way and isnt crazily more expensive than a switch.
I really can’t wait to play all the fallout games on the go!
I wonder if i would be able to mod my skyrim/fallout 4 on this 🤔
Yep, this thing can run more than just Steam. It can be used as a regular PC, with a desktop and any kind of program.
Wow I can't believe I can finally play persona 4 golden on the go through steam!

This is actually using the same type of custom APU that's found in next gen consoles.
I'm kind of concerned about the battery life. Those are some beefy spec for such a small machine. Otherwise, this is a dream come true.
I do find it a bit bizarre that there isn't an OLED screen on the 512gb model.
this thing is great for traveling. I plan to do alot of traveling so im gonna pick one up!
This is ugly. The PS5 is not.
i disagree
the steam deck is basically what nintendo is afraid to do, a basically open source handheld console
Not entirely open source (Steam itself is still proprietary), but really open and is using a log of OSS.
I love the switch but this looks like entirely a better deal. You can emulate any Wii Era and below Nintendo game. Not even the switch can say that
And WiiU era (CEMU), and probably also Switch era (Yuzu/Ryujinx).
@@Gramini damn really?! Amazing!!
Something you showed but didn't explicitly talk about was the microSD card support.
Yup, you can run it directly from the SD card too if you get higher speed ones.
Note that booting an OS off of an SD card is.. not ideal.
@@transformersloverjon It's stated that it supports "high speed SD", what ever that means in terms of speed. But yea, booting from SD is not a good experience, even worse when booting Windows.
So you can make pseudo physicals?
