The thing is, even at it's performance level, I've had more fun playing Zelda Breath of the Wilds than almost any other game in the last 5 to 10 years... And I'm happy others are figuring out that open worlds mean you should be able to do whatever you want, not follow a set story path with "level gating" to make sure you don't go into an area too early... I have my PC for big AAA games. Nintendo Switch is for Nintendo Games. The Switch is more powerful than the Wii U it replaced, and it's fully portable. I'd like to see what the Xbox and PS5 can do without access to a nearby power plug. And Fanboys buys whatever their favourite company throws at them. PS and Xbox included. Edit: Call me a Nintendo Fanboy all you want. The thing is, I am a Nintendo Fan. But I also won't blindly buy anything they throw at me. I won't be buying this new Switch, I've got a working one already. I haven't bought a new Nintendo Game since Mario 3D All-Stars, and will be buying Zelda Skyward Sword because I never got to play it on the Wii. Other than that, I use my PC mostly.
@@Xyler94 That's the trap people so easily fall into. You get hung up on their first party titles and that stops you from moving forward. There's a reason why most 3rd party titles struggle to even hold 30fps and can't even get a smooth 1080p and it's because the switch hardware is weak. Nintendo can make a system that will play breath of the wild and any other titles at 1080p, 60fps but most their consumers don't care so they won't. The switch is just a nintendo IP machine and that's all it'll ever be with so many people having that mindset. I just don't understand why people wouldn't want it to do both honestly. I say this as a person with 2 switches that I would be on them 24/7 if I could play all the same games my Xbox could at the same frame rate because I love that portability. I don't care about 4k however if it's there then that's just a plus. Sony already tried handheld and gave up after they failed because their terrible businesses practices and memory card prices. I would love to see an Xbox handheld but at the moment they have no immediate reason to with the way their console streaming and xcloud works. I've played all kinds of games from my phone and tablet and that shit has crispy graphics and 60 frames. It does have some input lag that's more noticeable depending on what you play so dedicated hardware would be dope. I would love for Microsoft to try new things and create more experiences for entertainment. No one is calling you a fanboy, if what I said doesn't apply to you then you shouldn't feel any type of way. I'm just a gamer. I'm not a fan or fanboy of any particular system. They're just plastic entertainment boxes to me. I would have bought a ps5 by now if I could so then I'd have every system. I want everyone to do better, especially nintendo. I'd like for Nintendo to come to the current time and have Bluetooth, better performance, better online capabilities, an actual party system that works from the damn console. You know, just basic things that Sony and Microsoft were doing 10 years ago... Nintendo has is strengths and they play to them well but holy hell does it have undeniable weaknesses that I want them to get rid of so they can really keep Microsoft and Sony in check. In the end if everyone is competing at the same level then the consumers benefit. It's a win win.
@@TrizollinTehWorld As someone who owns a Gaming PC as their primary platform, I personally don't care. I like the Nintendo Switch's portable form factor, and there's only the Switch really in that Portable version. I know there's attempts to copy that with PC hardware... but those are 800+$, Vs the Switch's 300/350$ price tag. I personally don't want Nintendo to compete on power with consoles. Why? Then we truly will have no more portable systems. Or will have to pay a huge premium if we need that. I'm okay with Nintendo Switch being underpowered, if it means I have a slim little tablet like device I can bring to family gatherings and we can play Jackbox without issues. The thing is, the Switch is perfect for what it is, a portable system that can be docked. I'm not expecting it to be the same as a Series X and PS5, but it doesn't need to be. Let it be it's own thing. It's okay to have a system that does something different, because let me tell you, the PS5 and Xbox Series X get absolutely destroyed in performance when there's no power plug nearby. At least the Switch can still render for 3 to 6 hours on battery. My personal point though, I don't care. I can emulate, I have the knowledge and everything needed to play CEMU and Breath of the Wilds on my PC... but I just don't care. That game is amazing, but to say "Nintendo needs to do better", what's better? They have the most powerful handheld device with the Switch... Can they add more features? Yeah... but are you willing to pay the extra money? The Switch is not only portable, it's cheap. So at the end of the day... Nintendo does things better than both Sony and MS combined. If the Nintendo platform isn't for you, don't buy it. Nintendo doesn't have to be like Microsoft and Sony, neither does Microsoft have to be like Sony and Nintendo, or Sony like Nintendo and Microsoft. Let each platform have their strength and weaknesses, that's what makes them unique. If they were all the same, then only games would differentiate them... And it almost sounds like you want all games on all platforms. Then, what would be the point of 3 platforms? Switch hardware may be weak, but the games on it are anything but weak. And at the end of the day, I play games to play games, not gawk at it's visuals, or be wowed by FPS. I got my PC for that.
I really enjoyed seeing you with spawnwave and wood in a video. Talk about top creators in one video!!! We need more. And even like your Nintendo content
Did Nintendo ever even mention a "pro" model before or was it all media created hype? Honestly, I'm glad it's just a slightly updated model for new customers of the switch rather than the old Nintendo method of creating a whole bunch of crap I feel like I have to buy....And then announcing that a whole new console is coming out like a year later. I am primarily a PC gamer, and a Nintendo on the side gamer. With pretty much all XBox games also being on PC, the few games I may miss from Sony (which also have been eventually coming to PC) aren't worth a PS purchase.
Same old Nintendo selling people things they already own. This may be enticing if you don't already own a switch, but if I were in that boat, I would keep waiting for whatever "pro" version they come out with.
Spend $349.99 for a new Switch model that still runs Korok Forest in BOTW at like 17 FPS. I love my Switch but I really want a "Pro" model. Here's to hoping next year is the year.
My laptop does 60 fps on BOTW on a GTX 1660ti paired with a i7 9th gen + Nvme SSD. It just puts Nintendo to shame because they can do so much better. When next year arrives, Yuzu emulator will outpace Nintendo for sure if they don't pick up the pace to correct the hardware limitation.
Ah, Nintendo. Half the time I'm just wondering wtf they're doing and why. This switch is a dumb idea, because the old screen didn't have a high enough resolution, so it looked a bit pixelated. Now with this bigger screen with identical resolution it will look worse.
It will be doubly worse. Same rez stretched further PLUS OLED uses a pentile sub-pixel layout (33% less subpixels than an LCD's RGB layout). The more ya know...
@@questworldmatrix I'm talking about the resolution, so games don't really matter. The screen has lower resolution, so everything is pixelated and jagged. The pixel density is low in other words, which is a fact. Most phones have higher resolution for much smaller screens than the switch. Or are you one of the mindless drones defending everything? And to be fair the games themselves don't really look too good on a technical level. Nintendo is a decade behind technology as usual. I like Nintendo games as seen by my name and pic, but I can still criticize their bad sides, which are way too many these days.
I agree with pretty much everything! That said, I’m just happy expectations are set. Nintendo isn’t jumping into 4K or more substantial hardware any time soon. At least the mysteries are behind us lol I’m buying one cause my current Switch stopped reading SDs. And I think it looks pretty sexy tbh. OLED FTW!
Nintendo is putting out this OLED so that people who haven't bought any Switch yet feel that no major upgrade is coming for a few years so they'll be more likely to buy not just the OLED but ANY Switch.
Nintendo fans have some weird Stockholm Syndrome-like relationship with the company. This thing will sell millions, and most of those will be to people who probably already bought 2-3 Switches.

0:17-0:32 I feel the exact same way. I like Nintendo for their exclusives, but their third party support and the console hardware power overall kind of sucks.

@@yayhay1 Do you understand how significantly more desirable Nintendo exclusives are than xbox ones? Do you think people are buying a switch for 3 party games? Do you have a learning disability? Genuinely curious
The only way I’ll buy one of these “Switch Pros” is if they do the same trade in offer they did before were you could trade in your old Switch and get a new one for $50. Aside from that there is no way I’m gonna pay for a new Switch just to a different screen that’s slightly bigger.
If I were Nintendo, I would make some drastic changes to the company, such as: - introduce new versions of the NES Classic Edition and SNES Classic Edition, each resembling the slimline models of each system and each with a different lineup of games - introduce a Nintendo Game Boy Classic Edition, even including a Link Cable port and using the same connector as the Game Boy Pocket and Color - introduce a Nintendo 64 Classic Edition, with controllers connecting via USB-C, holding game saves and featuring built in rumble! (The former so the ghost functionality in Mario Kart 64 can be used again) - start selling games from previous systems on the Nintendo Switch in bundles, no NSO subscription needed to play! (For example, a Fire Emblem bundle would give you all that series’ entries except the Nintendo Switch ones) - pick up the licenses to make new Mickey Mouse and Popeye games, the former featuring the Mickey Mouse Game & Watch games as a bonus, the latter featuring the Popeye NES and Game & Watch games as a bonus - generally do more to make sure older games are more easily available
I think it's funny that a lot of normal people will see next to no improvement between LCD and OLED unless you know what you're looking for. And that's the only improvement outside of the most exciting feature of an added lan port 🤣
As someone who doesn't have a Switch, this certainly peaks my interest. I tend not to play or buy Nintendo games based on frame rate, RAM et al; I buy them because they look fun!
As somebody who no longer owns a television, and not enough money for high quality kick stands, I must say this thing is kinda sexy. That said, I would have REALLY liked a stronger console. Thank you for calling them out Matty. BotW was my fav game of last gen but Nintendo is so far behind in so many ways. Whether its their online infrastructure, $60 remasters with fast travel locked behind 25 dollar amiibo, or the 30 frames 1080p switch, they lag behind the competition so badly, especially when you xan get a series s for 300 or a disc less ps5 for 400.
I wasn’t even expecting a switch pro but I was disappointed in the few seconds between seeing the trailer and actually watching the video. Just a disappointing reveal all around.

I'm not gonna lie. I was caught up in the hype of a switch pro coming this year. Truth be told i was one of the lucky people to get a switch at launch back in 2017. I fell in love the portability of the console. Which was a first for me. I was never really a hand-held gamer pre 2017. I had a Gameboy advance back when i was a kid but i didn't really play it. So when the switch got unveiled in early 2017 i was very curious. Then when i finally got one, i fell in love with it. however i had a problem... Back in 2017-18 I was playing on A PC, Xbox, PS4 and switch. So after a few months the novelty of a handheld console wore off and I more or less didn't play it going forward. Around 2019 my then girlfriend started to play it and that was cool. Then in 2020 we ended up breaking up but she still had it. Then finally as of this year (2021) i decided to let her keep my 2017 console because i wanted to get a new one. As time has gone on I have totally switched my gaming to PC only since in '19 I bought a gaming laptop. But this year 2021 i started to realize that I really missed the console experience. I love my PC but i grew up on console. Starting with the N64 and Ps1 in 1998-99. And then i quite literally grew up on Xbox playing it since 2001 when it launched. It was only recently that I became a PC gamer. And I wouldn't give this up but I do miss a good console experience. Sadly for me Microsoft really killed any reason why i would buy and Xbox going forward since Xbox and PC are now one in terms of games. On the other hand Sony still has their exclusives and with that a good reason to try to get a PS5 at some point. But Nintendo for me looks like a good compromise. You have the First party titles and so many 3rd party titles and support for the switch Plus it is a handheld console, so in my book its a win-win. While i did hope a "Pro" console would be announced or a more powerful one with updated components so it could compete better with Sony and Microsoft would be coming and maybe its coming. But I just know that I still miss the console experience and I'm tired of waiting so i can get the "most powerful switch" I'm a simple gamer in terms of I don't need the most powerful graphics or 60 fps to enjoy a game. if the best a game can give me is 30 fps and decent-ok graphics but has a good story and fun gameplay mechanics then I'm good. Besides I'm not playing a switch or want to play one for the graphics. I'm playing for the games, the experience. And if i really want graphics that make me feel like I'm watching an interactive movie then I can play my PC. I think this was a good video and criticism is valid but I think Nintendo knows why people are playing on the switch and that is why they are making "small" incremental changes to it over time. Truthfully I have been so busy I haven't had time to even know what they did or announced so thank you for informing me. Personally the $350.00 Price tag isn't a deal breaker for me. considering I'm basically starting over when it comes to the switch. Also considering the Ps5 console on the Sony website is $500.00, Ill pay the first price and get a New switch with a OLED screen and better sound. I will take it because I want the console experience without all the normal set up that comes with regular consoles because space currently is very limited. Now I'm just speaking for myself personally but that's my take on it. If you read all this thank you and I hope you have a great day!
My first thought with the LAN port: Is this the first time a company has made hardware decisions based specifically off of one game (Smash Bros)? This is cool and all for those who couldn't find a Switch all last year, but they probably should have prepped the public a bit more for this to *not* be a Switch Pro. A smaller announcement and maybe some hints for the Switch Pro would have gone over better.
Reminds me of the time I scratched the glass on my favourite watch. I continued to wear it and felt gutted every time I had to tilt my watch a certain way to see it properly 😔 then my girlfriend took it and got it all fixed and gave me it back all wrapped up and it looked better that new 😊
Its bad, but can you blame them; they even managed to sell their customers empty carton boxes. I may sounds harsh, but this what you get when you let corporations get away with bs cause people want to be a good fan instead of informed/conscience customer. The gaming industry needs to grow up but so does a large part of its customer base.
Costs $539 in Assistants which is over $100 more than standard. By the time you buy a real controller (pro) for it that puts it on par with a PS5. That's expensive for a low powered system missing Bluetooth, good online & chat functions etc. Did they at least add Bluetooth for headphones, not even a 3.5mm jack on pro?
Honestly, increasing the resolution for Switch games, especially for playing handheld, wouldn't even really do as much for it as giving it more processing power plus larger and faster internal storage.
The “pro” isn’t even a thing that exists, you see this happen way to many times: people getting hyped over something that is literally non existent (as of yet) and then they get disappointed when Nintendo announces something decent.
We all clearly have a differently understanding of what decent is. Nintendo are literally looking for any form of an upgrade to sell you a machine. First they update the battery and now they've added 0.8 inches of screen. We're at the point where Nintendo are taking the piss. 3 console releases with every machine almost identical to the last. Imagine playing 720p on a handheld screen and being happy about it after 2 console releases. This is far from decent. Same switch from 2017 with a slightly better battery and 0.8 inches added. If you invest in all that's £870 total for basically the same machine. Should people be disappointed. Of course. The upgrade isn't really an upgrade. Imagine of series X 2, was just an updated controller. Basically what Nintendo just produced.
@@ozzieloki2419 ok so your comment completely ignores the fact that the system has a better screen and speakers. This is like saying “I wish we got the new 3ds before the 3ds XL” it’s just obvious by looking at the company’s history that there will be multiple models of the switch before the pro is released, all I am saying is people jumped the gun way to early on the switch pro.
@@TheDarkblue57 yep, just last year i bought a 65 inch qled Samsung TV for 900 buck to upgrade from a 50 inch, and a couple of months ago i upgraded my pc screen to a AORUS FI32Q 32 for 700 dollars to upgrade from a 27 inch. also bought a laptop with similar specs from my past one just to upgrade the screen from a 1080p 15.6 inch to a 4k 17.6 inch which cost me 1200. heck I can guarantee you that people that are complaining have replace their old switch to a newer model just for a better battery life and some will buy this just for the better screen. heck I'm buying it because the switch I have I bought it day one and a better battery life and screen are really appealing. also a second dock is not going to hurt as I can place it on the living room so my mom can play ring fit in a more spacious area.
The thing is, most Nintendo consumers don't care about/notice frame rate drops or low resolution - for example, I haven't played much of it, but I didn't notice frame rare drops for HWAoC. Also, Nintendo already tried and failed to compete against Sony and Microsoft with the latest tech. It was called the Gamecube.
I think it's the chip shortage led to them keeping the old chip for the time being. I would expect this new Oled model phases out the older releases and the new Switch Pro is sold in late 2022
The worst thing is that they could have at least improved handheld performance using the same internals, with just a better battery and cooling system.
I'm not blaming the insiders and speculators. I'm blaming Nintendo. The switch lite made it a better portable. The docked model needed to be a better console.
If fans don't monitor and speak out about what they love, then the only voice will be from the outside, which is always worse. This needed to be said, and it was done so fairly. I love Nintendo's games, always have, but this is just too much by being not enough.
At this point I think is more likely to have a Switch 2 with all that powerful hardware than a switch pro getting those upgrades, in any case I wouldn’t recommend wait until switch pro bc it will definitely come later than sooner, if even
Thank you, glad I see someone else criticizing Nintendo for this...I feel that fans are not expecting enough from the company, they can do better than this imo.
I really doubt the 4k switch upgrade is ever happening. Unless I'm forgetting something Nintendo has never shown interest in doing an upgraded home console. Like there was the 64 DD but that didn't go anywhere.

The OLED is 720p so will probably have less PPI and be more blurry too, this is not great
oled are self omissive, so edge detail is actually greatly improved from a lcd screen which can convincing give the illusion that it is playing at a higher resolution. There was a video comparing a 4k oled against a 8k lcd, and the 3 participants all picked the oled thinking it was the 8k tv.

@@Yusei255 most of them are drones, the amount of bs they put up with from Nintendo is astounding lol
It's the reason Nintendo is how they are now and its not just because the children. Half the subreddit share the same mindset of
"nintendo doesn't need to compete because they're just different"
"I can't tell the difference between 30fps and 60 so do we really even need 60fps on the switch?"
"the apex legends port is good"
Nintendo isn't gonna improve because fanboys have proven that they will buy any and everything regardless of how much they're getting a sub par product.
@@TrizollinTehWorld Personally, I don't give a damn.
My Switch does what I need it to do. Play Nintendo Games.
Would it be nice for 60FPS? Yeah
Would it be nice for high-resolution? Yeah
But...

Well at least my gameboy advance SP still works and requires 0 updates 🙃🙃
Same old Nintendo selling people things they already own. This may be enticing if you don't already own a switch, but if I were in that boat, I would keep waiting for whatever "pro" version they come out with.

Pixelated? What games have you been playing?
@@questworldmatrix I'm talking about the resolution, so games don't really matter. The screen has lower resolution, so everything is pixelated and jagged. The pixel density is low in other words, which is a fact. Most phones have higher resolution for much smaller screens than the switch.

The only way I’ll buy one of these “Switch Pros” is if they do the same trade in offer they did before were you could trade in your old Switch and get a new one for $50. Aside from that there is no way I’m gonna pay for a new Switch just to a different screen that’s slightly bigger.
If I were Nintendo, I would make some drastic changes to the company, such as:
- introduce new versions of the NES Classic Edition and SNES Classic Edition, each resembling the slimline models of each system and each with a different lineup of games
- introduce a Nintendo Game Boy Classic Edition, even including a Link Cable port and using the same connector as the Game Boy Pocket and Color
- introduce a Nintendo 64 Classic Edition, with controllers connecting via USB-C, holding game saves and featuring built in rumble! (The former so the ghost functionality in Mario Kart 64 can be used again)
- start selling games from previous systems on the Nintendo Switch in bundles, no NSO subscription needed to play! (For example, a Fire Emblem bundle would give you all that series’ entries except the Nintendo Switch ones)
- pick up the licenses to make new Mickey Mouse and Popeye games, the former featuring the Mickey Mouse Game & Watch games as a bonus, the latter featuring the Popeye NES and Game & Watch games as a bonus
- generally do more to make sure older games are more easily available

The only thing I got out of the trailer was the splatoon gameplay
I’m a Mr Matty fan, I’m a Nintendo fan. So I appreciate you covering this.
Come on Matty give more Ninty vids, critique or praise it would be very welcome.
Keep up the good work big M! Been watching you for years, excited to see you keep growing!

Watch them release the Nintendo Switch OLED Pro XL Lite in 2024
It's worse considering how so many content creators put HOURS into covering the Pro but the "New" console is essentially a screen update
The steam deck is everything the nintendo switch pro wanted to be and more.
Nintendo the king of recycling
We keep always making the same games.
I really doubt the 4k switch upgrade is ever happening. Unless I'm forgetting something Nintendo has never shown interest in doing an upgraded home console. Like there was the 64 DD but that didn't go anywhere.
This is what happens when you put too much faith in rumors.
