    Hey just a few notes on the secret swords:
    - They were apparently part of a cut quest tied to turtle pope, where you would find the sheathed version and depending on some unknown parameters he would give you one of the two swords depending on some choice.
    - The sheathed sword model was actually reused for the sword monuments around the lands between.

    4:17 not like anyone is going to go back to do a Santier's Spear run in DS2A, but the actual fastest way to break it is to go to the Forest of Fallen Giants, slaughter the hollows in one big pile, then go ham on the corpses. Weird interaction that shreds durability significantly reducing the time it takes to break. I only felt the need to point this out because i found it incredible that i had a memory of something so trivial embedded so deeply in my subconcious that simply SEEING the Spear immediately brought the knowledge back to the surface. I havent played DS2 in almost 10 years now and i still remember stuff like that. Crazy.

    the black flame is still the flame of destined death, the red one is simply the more intense one directly connected to the rune of death such as thre wthe black knives(which have pieces of it) or malakiths powers as its guardian, so its possible the black flame on ijii is simply because its been sitting their a bit and has died down some to the weaker black flame

    About the mystery of the tree on the surcoat... perhaps it represents the 3 branches of Marika's children? The roots could be Godwyn, Morgott and Margit; one branch Ranni, Rykard and Radhan; the other Malenia, Miquella and ...Melina.

It was beloved in the early days of the Erdtree when it was smaller but that symbol has long been forgotten as the tree grew in size but was beloved at some point in time. The question about the 6 branch weirdass Erdtree coat is a good one.
    The answer is terrifying.
    Sometimes a 'tree' is not a plant. In mathematics & linguistics, a tree is a model for organizing knowledge. It is a literal path that connects ideas and directs their flow.
    This item is pointing us towards an understanding of the Erdtree as an abstraction. A sort of metaphor for something other than a normal tree

    • @SixBeark
      @SixBeark Рік тому +2

      A good example for this is Chomsky's linguistic trees (which isn't super complicated in its basic form) which are explained on Wikipedia. It goes to the difference between arborescence and rhizomatic thinking - thinking like a tree vs thinking like a root.

  • @nightscout9979
    @nightscout9979 Рік тому +2

    For the Malenia comparison, only the "1-2" leaping diagonal combo looks similar, and the animations are still clearly not the same. The stab animation also differs, and Malenia's is both far less telegraphed and a technique she does in phase one, with the hop and dash being the source of the momentum. As for Waterfowl Dance, Malenia does a chasing series of actual sword swings, while the other boss just stands in place and a very brief "bubble" of air slashes appears in one spot, more akin to Maliketh and Alecto's Rune of Death attack.
    Regarding Roderika, her Berserk inspiration feels like something that has been covered a lot on other channels, and even mentioned on this channel, already, and it's a super clear one. The Tree Surcoat oddity and the section about black flames appearing by mistake on large enemies like trolls are good, but it's perhaps a misnomer to call them "secrets."
    The Maliketh section is neat, but it feels like you could have done more research to see what else can stop the projectile blades other than Thops' Barrier, and to see if anything can stop the melee attacks as well. For example, I've heard that Immutable Shield can allow a shield to block a Rune of Death attack entirely, even preventing the 10% HP reduction. You could also test if Law of Regression, if used quickly enough (such as by a summon), can stop the DOT from Maliketh's attacks. You could also test if the blooming Erdtree Guardians, who can further bloom if they take damage but survive, thus healing and gaining new attacks, can be sent back to a pre-bloomed state.

    The Erdtree Surcoat shows a emblem of the Order before Marika founded the Golden Order. The emblem of the Age of Plenty, if you will.
    Check it. Theres two branches and 6 leaves, one for each Divine tower. Theres also three roots. One for each Eternal city.
    I got another secret for you. If you draw parralels between Darksouls Gods and Elden Ring gods, Marika is most similar to Fina (the goddess of Lautrec) the are Golden Goddesses, they are fickle (you lose Fina's favor if you remove her ring, and Marika divorces Godfrey) they bestow Favor and Protection, and they kill Firekeepers.

    One thing that always stood out to me about Iji’s demise is his death pose. It looks like the puppets to me. It had me wondering for a while about the implications of that. For the black flame I’ve wondered more than once if the Godskin Noble at the Liurnia Divine Tower had anything to do with that, and if the Assassins had been fighting with Iji instead of against him in that fight. I think one of my favorite things about this game is that the lore is presented such that imagination and speculation is all you will have to fill the gaps of the ‘unknown’.

    I think that specific surcoat refers to the time or age when the erdtree was still growing and it was probably the age of plenty where gifts and blessings were passed out and when the new age began the design was changed. Ppl love bc it’s like a form of nostalgia in the lands between but that’s just my theory. Like if I was a soldier in the current age I’d see that and be like “damn remember when we wore those! 8:06 About that surcoat design, and the fact that it shares its model with the Eye Surcoat, to me it looks like the design is actually refferencing the three fingers, it might be a stretch, and the blue color doesn't quite match. But maybe it was designed at an early stage of development when there was going to be a three finger allied army or something. And it was later repurposed as an erdtree design

    The tree surcoat insignia - Maybe it's the bird's-eye view of the erdtree? Or the connections the erdtree has with all the minor erdtrees (ME). Try connect a line between the Erdtree with these three minor erdtrees for the big branches, then connect the branch with the other 3 ME for the twigs:
    1st branch, ME (Caelid) = ME (Dragonbarrow) , ME (Mistwood) & ME (Weeping Peninsula)
    2nd branch, ME (Liurnia Northeast) = ME (Liurnia Southwest), ME (Mt. Gelmir) & ME (Altus Plateau)

I only say that because of the kamikaze soldiers in his Haligtree that pretty much do that 😅it would make for a potentially interesting connection between the Avatar that drops it in Liurnia of the Lakes on the Southwest (paired with a Cerulean Tear) which makes it also potentially related to Carian lore and the one that drops it in the Consecrated Snowfields (paired with a Thorny Tear that functions like items related to Malenia). And considering the references of how it was a lesson learned and that Miquella is a Demigod that likes to experiment (see Minor Erdtree Church video)...

    "The Erdtree is Beloved by all and widely used as a design" is how I see it.
    And as you've said it's not seen anywhere else so that would further support they don't mean it's this design that's wildly used, rather than at the Erd tree is often used as a design.

    I agree that the 3 swords appear to be the same one, but the one on the right looks too regular to be simply from being burned. It looks like it was designed like that and the white layer was put over the top. Also just under the hilt you can see an element of the design that carries from the middle one to the right, giving more weight to the idea that they're the same sword. I've never seen her there and have never been able to replicate this, but the weirdest thing was that she was labelled as an invader, and since she wouldn't interact, I kicked her to get her to do something but she just returned to her world. I can't find any info about this anywhere, and I can also confirm it wasn't a cosplayer since we had already killed an invader prior to this event and there was no prompt to announce this ''invasion''

    Everyone keeps talking about Roderika removing her hood once she finds her new purpose but I think there's a much more simple, and likely, explanation. She took it off when she settled in, in doors. Much like hats are worn outside and taken off indoors, same concept. She was no longer traveling (and no longer in stormy weather to boot) and so the hood came off. There, of course, is a correlation with her becoming a spirit tuner, but that's probably not the cause. An ex patriot is not necessarily someone unwelcome in their former land. It's just someone who no longer lives there and now claims some new land as their new home.

    Why the flame burns black and white is not a bug, I believe. Black flame was the original god slaying flame, but Destined death gave it its red tint and ability to slay Ranni’s flesh and Godwyn’s soul. I conclude that during the story at which Iji dies is when the Godskin and Black Knives combine forces to kill Ranni because she seemingly crossed them both to serve her own agenda. The Godskins killed Iji as he guards the entrance to Caria Manor to help the assassins get closer to Ranni but Blaidd would be there to stop them.

      I'm positive that Ranni sent the black assassins to kill Blaidd and Iji. She mentions several times that they trust her too much and would give everything for her. And Iji says something similar. She does love them, but she has to cover her tracks completely to accomplish her goal, and Iji knew this all along, I think. The only reason she doesn't send the assassins to kill you, as well, is because you've chosen to become her Lord.

    • @Terminalsanity
      @Terminalsanity Рік тому

      @@urbanexotic I'm almost positive she didn't, precisely because Blaidd and Iji are so loyal to Ranni that it would be entirely redundant to have them killed by another party. Ranni would have but ask them to off themselves and they'd happily do it themselves. Something Iji all but confirms as he knew he was going to die and readily embraces that fact when you tell him of Blaidd's fate... yet Iji still kills several Black knife Assassins in his death? No that doesn't add up. Iji would have only gone out fighting if he thought the assassins were sent by someone in opposition to his mistress.
      Besides which given Ranni's apparent imprisonment of their leader Alecto in an evergaol seemingly immediately after the Night of Black knives, Ranni seems to now be at odds with the Black knife assassins. We see in the present day of the game only one faction that ambiguously has Black Knife assassins in their service and that's Miquella as 4 Black Knife Assassins are guarding the seal to his Haligtree in Ordinia. and Miquella's subordinates trying to take out the lone Empyrean and their that stood in opposition to his order to be upon the cusp of their ascension to becoming God of the coming age makes more sense than Ranni needlessly hiring assassins to take out her literally suicidally loyal subordinates to cover up tracks for her all but completed plan whose lone dangle threat is the Tarnished who she leaves entire to their own devices...

Easiest part I think is the chapter explaining the lone wolf metaphor but honestly none of it is very easy - it is on my to do list to make some content showing how Elden Ring teaches you the ideas in the book

    I think that the reason of the black flame on Iji's body is because the black flame of the godskins was created directly by the red flame of the Destined Death. We know that the Godskins and the Gloom Eyed Queen were servants of the rune of death and probably, to follow their absurd god-slaying legacy, they created a lesser powerful version of the god-slaying flames of the rune. Probably, some of the Black Knife assassins who killed Iji did not have a fragment of the rune of death big as that used by Alecto, like in black blade kindred sword, so those little fragments were not powerful enough to generate the red flames of Destined Death, but instead a lesser flame enough to slay gods and a troll servant of Caria.
    Hope that helped.
