Hey everyone! Here it is - my reaction to season 3, episode 20 of REBELS!!!! OH. MY. GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Of all the times NOT to wear my Obi-Wan shirt!!!! :O I love the many, many intricacies of this ep - from the twist of Ezra not exactly doing the right thing by rushing off to "save" Obi-Wan, to the unbelievable twist of how short the battle was, even to Maul dying in Obi-Wan's arms......something I never EVER thought I'd see!!! Even after all the hurt he inflicted, especially on Obi-Wan, at the end of the day, we were all victims of the same person / evil force. Mind-blowing!!!! WOW!!! I'm still reeling from this one!!! Also, am I losing it or was that a sound clip from A New Hope at the end???? Can't wait for more! AWESOME EP! Enjoy!!! ~ MH

Twin Suns takes place around 1 to 2 years before A New Hope.

Definitely towards the end of 2 BBY. So Ezra, Luke and Leia are all about 17 at this point.

@@LeChaunce Yes, it’s very close to 1 year (at the end of the 2nd year) before A New Hope.

Maybe I will be the first to tell you that Obi baited Maul into the same fight stances as Maul vs QuiGon in their last moments.
Maul did the same attack form but Obi was ready to counter it. After both of them spent decades rethinking that moment.
But Obi had moved on to a place of peace, where Maul hadn't. So Obi was able to learn and adapt, Maul did exactly what he had done in the past.

Everyone has covered the significance of how Obi Wan beat Maul, but what I think has been missed is the reason he was so comforting to Maul while he died. Obi Wan understood, that like so many others, Maul was also just another victim and puppet of Sidious. Maul isn’t a villain, Maul is a tragic character

A fun fact about this episode, the original written script for this episode was actually suppose to have Kanan be the one to accompany Ezra to Tattooine instead of Chopper, but due to Freddie Prince Jr having health problems at that time, they had to rewrite the parts Kanan was going to be in and put Chopper in instead.
Which is honestly a real shame cuz I would have loved to have seen Kanan interact with Obi Wan. Mainly considering that the last time Kanan and Obi saw each other, it was when Kanan was still a youngling whom was the one gave Obi the idea to use the beacon to call their Jedi back home if it also could be used to send them away, the very thing that Obi did in ROTS when everything went to shit

I don't know about that. Actually, having Ezra's master along for the ride would have given the episode a very different vibe.
Although Chopper is there with him, Ezra's isolation is what sells the "you should never have come to this place" sentiment that Obi-Wan expresses at the end. Ezra's caught in this game between Maul and Obi-Wan, and it's important that he doesn't really know what he's gotten himself into.
Chopper is there to serve as someone for him to bounce off of and as his last connection to home. He's a simple Droid who's grumpy but loyal. He doesn't understand all this Jedi and Sith business or Ezra's Visions of Maul. He can't be a mentor figure because he knows even less about this situation than Ezra. Importantly, he breaks down right when Ezra is at his lowest point, leaving him completely alone and helpless before Obi-Wan shows up.
With Kannan, it would have been completely different. He would have been guiding him in the right direction, helping him process his visions and teaching him the lesson of the episode before Ezra could learn it himself.
That's just the way I see it, though. Maybe if it had happened, they would have made a completely different episode that still would have been great. But I'm happy with what we got.

Ezra and Luke are the same age. We already knew that but it's very close about 2 to 3 years before the movie when we see Luke for the first time.

Right. Ezra was born on Empire Day and Luke and Leia were born sometime the next day. some people say the same day, but I think too much happens in that space of time for it to be the same day.

What's really incredible about Mauls death is its a complete reversal of him and Qui-gon. He died in the same position, Qui-gon insisted Anakin was the Chosen One while Maul hoped Luke was. Qui proposed the Chosen One will bring balance while Maul demanded Vengence on the Sith.

obi wan sure showed Maul a lot of respect, but there was no way he was going to survive, especially when he threatened luke... there's alot of body language before the first strike if you re-watch,, if you're interested, the voice actor that does maul explains it in a video he put on UA-cam , Sam Witwer. he explains it pretty good .. they were definitely throwing shade at each other

Some of my thoughts on the end, Obi-Wan used the first fight with maul to win all his later fights. He learned from qui-gon's mistake and countered the strike to the face. Fighting with Anakin, he did not mis-use the high ground as maul had. Finally, fighting vader, he found that peace that qui-gon did to become one with the force in the end. As for Maul, even in his final breathe, he can't move past his need for revenge. When he says that luke will avenge them, you can see the pity on Obi-Wan's face. Any life beyond that revenge ended when Obi-Wan defeated him on Naboo. Maul was a tragic character worthy of shakespeare.

Obi-Wan holds Maul just as he held the dying Satine and Qui-Gon, two people he loved dearly who Maul took from him, and he does so with compassion, comforting him in his last moment. This, far more than the actual duel, is Kenobi showing himself to finally be a true Jedi Master in every sense of the word, having 'risen above' not just Maul, but 'General Kenobi'; free of the chains of the past, holding compassion even for his worst enemy, embodying the best ideals of the Jedi Code.

I feel this last fight between Maul and Obi Wan sets up the last fight between Vader and Obi Wan. On the Death Star there could have been an epic battle but they were just going through the motions, in both fights they knew how it had to end to achieve their goals. Sure in 76 they didn't have the technology to have an epic battle but even if they did I doubt it would work as part of the story - Vader "won" but failed to recognize the seeds of his downfall had taken root

"A New Hope" does not happen until after "Rebels" ends... Ezra is (Literally) only a few DAYS older then Luke and Leia... The Rebel Alliance is still in its infancy in, and is growing fast, but it's still not a REAL threat to the empire yet... This show is the setup for many things to come...

Melissa is the movie you are thinking of Solo? Cause I know he has a cameo in that, and yes it is before this. Your hunch is correct, Maul is dead. This was a fitting end for his character, he never learned or grew from his mistakes like Obi-Wan. He even tried to use the same attack he killed Qui-Gonn with, and Obi-wan knew exactly what to do.
Maul wasted his life, consumed by his hatred. Meanwhile Obi-wan had a true purpose to his
