  • Learn to read, write, and type the Assyrian (Syriac-Aramaic) language in five minutes. You will be amazed how fast and easy you will learn. Challenge yourself to find a more beautiful script and you will find none.
    Obviously, this is not meant to replace a class or a passionate teacher for each teacher of this language is passionate and caring about his/her language. Also, the core learning portion of this video is about five minutes. The beginning is preperation and the end is practice.
    If you know of a location that teaches the language, please post it and any other pertinent information. For example, I think Northeastern University in Chicago teaches the class.

    I learned to speak Assyrian when married & living among these wonderful people. I met only one could write the language as they weren't allowed to use it in Iraq where they came from before UK. They even left each other notes in arabic yet spoke in Assyrian always. I began learning to write from a children's book a woman had but my husband nor any other I knew could help or read what I wrote.

    I just came across your website and video. You’re a great teacher! Thank you for breaking it down and explaining the vowels, dots, etc. so clearly. I was bit confused when I was a kid trying to learn, but you’ve simplified it here so it’s easier to understand. My goal is to be able to read the Bible in Aramaic. Hoping I’ll be able to soon. Thanks so much! 🙏🏼😊💕 I want to purchase the Aramaic alphabet blocks. Please let me know when you get more in stock. What a great creation whomever made them. 💕

    Hi, great video! One thing: you said Christians of the east use the word elah(a) because it is derived from the Arabic word. This isn't exactly accurate. Aramaic uses the word elah(a) for "God", as can be seen in the Aramaic chapters of Ezra and Daniel, for example, בֵּית אֱלָהָא in Daniel 5:3, לֶאֱלָהּ in Ezra 5:12 (There are a plethora of examples of the word אֱלָהּ in those chapters). I do not think Assyrians (or Chaldeans) use the word elaha because it is derived from Arabic, I think it is because the word itself is the original Aramaic word for "God". Correct me if I'm wrong.

      Isnt it the same in all semitic languages?Elohim, Allah,Ilah, Elaha?

    • @Ishtarxx
      @Ishtarxx 3 роки тому +2

      @@galadriel957 yes! It is indeed a Semitic word, and although we don't know the proto-Semitic term specifically, we know that Akkadian used "ilu" or "ilum" (in its nominative form). I was merely saying that Aramaic (from which Syriac is derived, the language of the modern Eastern Christians) already has the word "elaha." It wasn't derived specifically from Arabic. In fact, Arabic may have taken the word from Aramaic, or it maybe have come down from the proto-Semitic word since Arabic is a conservative language and kept the original Semitic words and pronunciation.

      @@Ishtarxx I think The Indo- European languages also took a lot of words from semitic languages This happened doring Assyrian occupation in ancient Iran and the Phoenicians made colonies on the Mediterrenean shores.And during turning Christianity.And we Turks took a lot of Arabic words during turning to islam.
      After our revolution in the beginning of Last century we tried get rid of those Arabic words and turned them to Turkish.

    If the letter has a final form, is there a final form when handwriting too? For example, when you handwrite the words "munshuqta" (kiss) and "hukim" (doctor) would the letter mim be written the same way in both words, despite being in a word-final position in one and in a word-initial position in the other? Also, how many Assyrians across the world use the Madnkhaya script? Is Serta or Estrangela more dispersed, and if so are they tied to any specific dialects? Thanks in advance!

    Hello there
    I have a question regarding the Aramaic/Syriac/Assyrian language/script.
    Wh
    Aramaic and Classical Syriac render the pronunciation of the same letters as ܝܫܘܥ yeshuuʿ (yešuʿ) /jeʃuʕ/ and ܝܫܘܥ ishoʿ (išoʿ) /iʃoʕ/. The Aramaic Bibles and the Syriac Peshitta preserve these same spellings
    Why is the same word "ܝܫܘܥ " ending with AYIN not pronounced in case of ISHO while it is pronounced in case of Yeshua.
    Why is the same word "ܝܫܘܥ " starting with Ya sound like in YEshua while starting with EE sound EESHO.
    What rules are being followed here? I learnt that AYIN is silent here. If that is the case then why it is pronounced in case of Yeshua
    It would be very helpful if you could answer my questions above

      LOL But you are being illogical. Plus we live in an era when even Chinese is latinized "PINYIN". If Aramaic is not latinized just like Turkic languages (Turkish, Uzbek, Turkmen, Azeri) and even Maltese and Berber, Aramaic as a language will be extinct and replaced by Arabic script and language. Look what happened with COPTIC. PLUS why latinized? Because most Assyrian uses Internet and they can communicate already with latin script and by the way Assyrian DIASPORA around the world use already latin script on Internet. Latin script will help Assyrian diaspora not to lose the contact with the language, children in Australia, USA, Europe, etc learn the latin script, that is why is much easier to teach aramaic with latin script. Or evolve or get extintion. Sad but necessary.
      And as a final remark Latin script for Aramaic will enable to get a distinction with Arabic and not being replaced.
      And finally it will be MUCH EASIER for FOREIGNERS to LEARN Aramaic, too. Noone will invest in learning a language with such complicated script (SYRIAC). That is called INTELLIGENCE, my friend.

    • @user-tg6ug6nc2o
      @user-tg6ug6nc2o 7 років тому +2

      Angelotube5000 Coptic still exists with it's own script. I learned Madnhaya in less than an hour. Including all atwate and zowe and the majleeana and the dipa. Do you understand that there is thousands of years of history behind this script and language? To latinize it would mean to throw away the culture that Assyrians were given to them by their ancestors. and what do you even mean Latinization will make it distinct from Arabic? Sure it'll be distinct from Arabic, but it already is with it's own letter system. After latinization though, it won't be distinct from any of the thousands of languages that use the Latin script.

    • @Angelotube5000
      @Angelotube5000 7 років тому

      Հովսեփ Խաշունի
      You don't understand. Coptic exists BUT is a DEAD language. You want the same? Even Armenians, Russians, Japanese etc use the LATIN SCRIPT as well. Assyrian scripture is not as important as the LANGUAGE. Why you use a script than only few thousands can understand? For instance nobody will understand your scripture if you visit a country, that is why Jewish people latinized their streets, cities, stores, etc. Japan, Korea and China, too. BTW that is why Akkadian (original language and scrpt) did not survived because of the script as well. THAT IS why Egyptian script evolved because not everybody could understand Hieroglyph, only the High Class. And NOW in reality NOT all Assyrians understand Syriac BUT can understand the language aka ORALLY. It does not matter how to write a language BUT how to use it to understand the language and the LATIN script is perfect.
      That is why also Hebrew used Aramaic language but Hebrew script. Also Aramaic uses Arabic as well. Please, the arrogance will kill the language. The script must be evolved or die. History tells us that.

    • @user-tg6ug6nc2o
      @user-tg6ug6nc2o 7 років тому +1

      Angelotube5000 It's so funny that you said Armenians use the latin script because I just commented on a video in Armenian using Armenian. What are you even talking about? Hieroglyphics didn't survive because the Muslims tore through there like a fat person in a buffet. In my readings of history, it's always when a group of people bands together no matter their differences and unite for their similarities that they change their destiny. That's exactly what Assyrians need to do, you are welcome to use the latin script as much as you want, I don't think any individual person cares how you personally do it.

We do have dialects like any other language but that does not change the official name of our language Ashurit!! Aramaic is not our language never was our language. Jesus spoke Hebrew you can think what ever you want but the reality is he spoke the hebrew language. Aramaic is not a specific language its a mixture academic word for many ancient languages into one !! how can a entire region speak a language of a tribe that never was a kingdom or any empire...?
