I think your hypothetical situation is right on. I come from the horse industry, like you. We both know if you're going to sell highend horses, you don't fill your barn up with low end weekend horses. The buyers won't take you seriously. If a weekend buyer wants a horse, you don't show them the top dollar horse because then they feel bad and won't be happy with anything else you show them.
Here's my trouble with the art business: It's an art business. It takes two hats, one for art, one for business, and it requires that we take one hat off and to put the other one. Many artists don't like wearing the business hat, and some don't even have a business hat. Sometimes it's good to go in guns blazing so that we figure out what won't work for us in quick fashion. It sounds like you've come to some good realizations, have implemented a good game plan, and are working to make it happen. I love that you recognize that it does require paying attention to the business end, but not at the expense of the art end. I enjoy your work, and your videos. Thanks so much!
