    The Ned rig has been my go to when bass fishing. I even catch bass trolling a Ned rig. Especially from a kayak where you have a variable speed.

    Great stuff- used it lots this year and did catch a couple when the lure was close to the boat on the retrieve.

      It is so exciting when those fish hit it right next to the boat!

    I tried a ned rig this past sunday evening in a very small river (and shallow), after my creature bait and worms weren't working. I put the black and blue ned rig on and had a bass on a few seconds after it hit bottom.
    First catch with a Ned Rig.
    In my short amount of time adding bass fishing to my other fishing, even after hearing about the way the bites feel, I am still surprised how you don't always actually realize that you have a bass on, the line may just get heavy or a bogged down feeling. Today I thought I was snagged and then realized a bass was on the hook.

      It is amazing how often there is just weight all of a sudden. So glad you got your first one on a Ned! And thanks for watching.

    Figuring out how to work a ned rig in my waters was a real challenge because of the dense vegetation everywhere. But because of what proven fish catchers they are I decided to stick with it and eventually I found the right head and right retrieve that works for my fishery. It's very similar to the retrieves in this video.

      It is amazing how that little chunk of plastic just catches fish. I remember the first time I saw one and was so interested. Another rig that will catch anything.

    I love Ned rig fishing. I was invited to go fishing on a private lake in Colorado. After only catching a couple small fish on other lures I quickly switched to a pb&j Zman trd and started nailing walleyes and bass. My friends couldn’t tie one on fast enough. This is also my go to bait for smallmouths in a large reservoir I fish.

    Thaks Steve, that does look great swimming. I may try that in faster moving water to hang near blow downs longer

    I bet I’ve only fished a Ned Rig once or twice. I’ll be doing it more often now, thanks to the help in this video. That last retrieval method was surprising on how it looked. Thanks for the great info!

    My daughter just drags it slowly on the bottom and gets fish when no one else is hitting on them. We are from the Bank fishing no boat so up and down is not available to do. Throw a reel home me the swimming or dead set. She will get everything to be DOA in the water by getting snagged up on everything. She only likes no weight on the rig. It works for her.

    My favorite ned rig set up last year has been flatlands swing head ned head, it has a ewg hook so it's super weedless. With a zmans 2.5" ned tubz in mudbug & green pumpkin . Its getting bite from about everything. I swim it back, I hope it across bottom & dead stick it, letting the bait dance around on its own. I've caught a crap ton of bass & big crappie with it!

    With a jig and Texas rig I have found success when start out fishing like a normal jig or Texas rig then swim it for a little bit let it fall and then start fishing it again like you would during normal Texas or jig thing swimming for a little bit let it fall and it just works

    Rod tap with finger: do you use this with any other lure?

    • @SteveRogersOutdoors
      @SteveRogersOutdoors  3 місяці тому

      I use it a lot with a jig minnow setup, but it works with so many swimming presentations.

    Ned rigs are so deadly. Carp go nuts for the orange TRD worms. I've been tying a lot of ned jigs and it's getting me back into conventional fishing. That you for these vids and tips. Going to try that rod tap on a bunch of jigs.

    A tip to make the Ned rig stand better along with your tip. After tying the line to the jig head, rotate the knot to the upper side of the eye. Rotate it to the part of the eye that is closest to the bait/ hook shank. This makes the ZMan TRD's stand much better. Check the knot position before every cast to make sure it is "slid" into this position for maximum standing.

    Love me some Elaztek .... I have some Z-man, but what are some other options ?

    • @SteveRogersOutdoors
      @SteveRogersOutdoors  3 місяці тому +1

      Zman makes the Elaztech for some other companies as well. Strike King has several Elaztech baits. I also like to use a Baby Z Too on a Ned.

    If the traditional hopping doesnt work i like to drag until im hung up on rocks and wiggle a bit before popping it out. Those two are my go to ned rig retrieves

    Hey Steve .... in your retreive section... can you give us the différence between the white ned rig and the white grub ( _ I personaly better like a grub swiming in the water that a ned ??? if you can prove to me that the dead ned worm ( without tail ) is better than the grub ?! .. maybe i will fish more the ned ;-) loll I'll wait for your answer ;-)

    • @SteveRogersOutdoors
      @SteveRogersOutdoors  4 місяці тому +1

      This is a terrific question. I need to definitely do more with a grub. A great lure that often gets overlooked these days. I’ll have to do some grub videos - I would sure think it would outfish the ned on a swim.

    Steve, this is not my standard retrieve but I can’t tell you how many I’ve caught this way. Maybe I got a little tangle in my spinning reel. So I stop and pull a bunch of line out and then when I reel it in, I got one on! I really should make this a standard retrieve 😂

    • @SteveRogersOutdoors
      @SteveRogersOutdoors  4 місяці тому

      I have done the same thing. That little lure just sitting there gets bites for sure!

    That’s not. Ned fishing. That’s just finesse. Fishing. Look in In -Fisherman magazine. There’s an hole story on. Ned. Who fished those lakes in Wisconsin. That started experimenting with tiny small jigs with long enough hooks. Pieces of worms. And the idea of it was. Called the do nothing rig. Never was meant to even reach the bottom. Just let it drift through the water column. Later he designed a head tiny little 1/16 3/23nd heads. (( which now not even made anymore)). Idea of the flat head it the piece of worm would wiggle little bit as it floated through the water. They’d crush fish on it. How it got too just a jig on the bottom 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️. Don’t know. Please look find the article.
