    This should be 3 different apartments at different price points in the same city...itd be more interesting to also see the lower price range, the average and the luxary.

    Im honestly blown away by this series. In every city the rent is so high that renters usually have to share to afford it. I can't imagine the average renter can afford to save up to buy their own place someday. It's really sobering.

I'm in Brisbane Australia, and most people I know have apartments at about $500 per week. Fancier places will be up to $1000 but not as much. I swear I have the cheapest place in the city at $280 per week. Wages are lower in Brisbane than Sydney though.

    As someone who lives in the Canadian cookie cutter suburbs....these Australian houses have such beautiful architectural features....red clay tiles, hanging lights with moulding, arched doorways. 💁

    • @lynettepettitt655
      @lynettepettitt655 3 роки тому +1

      It partially depends on when the building was built. Australia had a housing boom in the late 60's - mid 70's that resulted in mass production of apartment units that are all very similar. Many still have the original tiles that are easily recognizable. A 2 bedroom units are around 55-65sqm, when the upper levels have a small balcony if they're lucky.

    • @happytraveller2122
      @happytraveller2122 2 роки тому +1

      Believe me. ALOT of Aussie apartments are ugly

    • @AndoCommando1000
      @AndoCommando1000 2 роки тому

      The Paddington house in the middle is in a particularly old (by Australian standards) inner city suburb that has gone through a lot of gentrification. I'd say it's old enough to be Victorian era - which is why it has those high ceilings and ornate features. Most houses in Australia and Sydney are not nearly as old or as elaborate as that. So it's not a good example of a typical or average Sydney house anymore (though it's probably a good example of Sydney's specifically inner city Victorian-era houses).
      This whole video focusses south of the harbour from the beaches to the inner west. Not a huge area. Sydney is a sprawling city, so geographic area selected in this video isn't particularly big.

    • @jonathantan2469
      @jonathantan2469 2 роки тому +2

      Australia has a lot of cookie-cutter suburban homes though. These examples in this video are all close to the city center. If you go to the middle to outer suburbs, you'll see lots & lots of suburban type single-household developments. The idea of raising a family in an apartment, townhouse, or above-shop unit is still seen as abnormal in Australia.

      For them to be paying 4k per month, they would be earning around $1000p/w before taxes (which is fairly average in Australia for mid-tier jobs), that's with flatmates of course. If they are by themselves or a couple - they would be around $1200p/w each).

    I live in parramatta sydney.. it is becoming a mini CBD western suburb lately... lot of corporate and business offices has made it their hub.. better then living in city where rent is so high approx. $ 1000 a week on average... any ways parramatta rentals are not so cheap as well....
    I pay around $550 for a two bed- two bath apartment what is also 10 minutes walk from Parramatta station that has trains to city in 30 min or more amd every other corner of city .. so it is like a centralised train station....
    We have quiet the secong biggest westfield that is also 10 min. Walk from my.place what makes it easier for shopping and other.
    Living in this place for 6+ years and never had any issues.....
    Sydney is a beautiful but also the busiest and hectic city at the same time...quality of life definitely depends on your Job profile..... but on an average you can have decent lifestyle here .....
    People are nice and polite... not much of a crime .. it is one of the safest city in the world.

      The cost is advertised per week because months may have four or five weeks. So the rent is calculated by week to accommodate this. Weekly rent x 52 weeks. Divided by 12. You usually pay by the month.

    Omg I hate how the rent is measured in months rather than weeks. In Australia we talk about rent price per week, so trying to convert it from months is so confusing. Like, how the heck do I convert that? Some months will be 30 days long and others 31, and don’t even mention February! Like why can’t it be measured in WEEKS, it’s so much easier, ffs America 😤
