One of the most iconic pieces. GW really should have gotten it for Warhammer world. I think the Last Light showed a lot of people a new level of emotion and storytelling in miniature art.
I am grateful and feel humbled that you say so. Sadly it never happened. Well, maybe one day, never say never!
They should have recognized you with at least a short response. In its absence let the audience validate you with their highest honors instead.
@@pyjamakid3982 Arrigato!
The fact that Games Workshop didnt jump at the chance to have that piece in their museum is a crime. This is hands down the greatest warhammer piece I have ever seen.
I was sad too. Thank you!
I 100% agree
Not gonna lie, the work looks very impressive and honor to the artist for the effort and time, but to me the composition looks a bit sketchy in the details and also the color scheme a bit dull and flat... also not a fan of the goopy strings. Obviously these are just my two cents on a total personal point of view, I really love the idea, storytelling and the executions of many aspects of this tremendous piece of art, so big props to Roman!
@@NoxusGr01 thank you! I agree with some aspects and would do things different today. Back then in 2013 I was still in the heat of learning and exploring. In the meantime I know exactly what you mean. Thanks for your honesty and the props! Appreciated.
@@ROMANLAPPATMINIATUREART Wow, never seen such a gracious and polite way in taking some criticism (expecially nowadays where everyone feels attacked and violated)... You are a very talented artist and a great person, I just saw some of your recents works and I was blowed away... Truly astonishing gems of art! Keep up the awesome work!
One of the most iconic Warhammer dioramas ever made such a work of art and absolutely beautiful.
Thanks a ton!
I love that you're doing this. As a child I used to escape into the stories I would imagine as I painted.
Really legitimizing the art and storytelling like no one else in the genre.
😍 thanks a lot
Oh man, if I would make something like this and started in 2013, I would still be meticulously cleaning off all the mold lines and not started painting yet... 😅
Well, I glued everything together and then removed the mould lines that I was able to see. Just because this fact. #efficency
@@ROMANLAPPATMINIATUREART it's things like this I need to do since I always go for every nook and cranny
Lol as would 99% of us
this piece really puts the nature of the tyrranid's into perspective, whilst also bringing to light the prowess of the imperium in its battle against the endless horde, this is art with a soul.
Thank you very much for your beautiful compliments!
Amazing piece the way it portraits the Tyranids as this endless ocean of teeth claws and death is just breathtaking.
This was the plan. Happy it worked out! Thank you!
10K euro was a bargain price for this, especially considering some of your "small" diorama pieces are ~4K. And i'm in absolute love with your new Escher piece, the dimensionality of the background is absolutely insane, truly jaw dropping. the parallax effect you get with these small frames is beautiful, and truly inspirational as I've had ideas to do the same for a year now (just gotta clear out a massive backlog of various board game pieces, then I never want to buy a new board game again and just concentrate on art pieces).
Well, I am learning, growing reputation, making a living as an artist, in miniature art. I learned to appreciate one thing: Patience. The good things will happen one day and it shows that the patience pays off! Thank you for your kind words!

If a person can sell a huge canvas with nothing on it for hundreds of Thousands of dollars. Then you deserved every cent for this amazing piece of Art!
You did an amazing job.
This was a beautiful and made me smile to see it.
I needed this today badly thank you.
Glad you liked it! Thank you for your kind words!
I don’t think I saw 40k in a grimdark fashion as a kid until I saw this and it changed my artistic and perspective view on 40k and ten years later I still reference this diorama to this day to show how cool the modelling and storytelling in minis goes! Amazing work❤
Thank you for your kind words! Glad you like it that much!
Never saw this diorama before but I'm glad I got this video recommend, I'm speechless at this work of art, never saw this kind of storytelling ever before.
Thank you for your kind words about my creations!
I love your narration, the love, trepidation and joy you express shows the depth of passion for your art.
Thank you!
Recognition ist the key word - You've already done so much for our miniature art hobby to get recognised and I'm sure you'll do lots more with projects to come. I' m truely honored to once have seen "The Last Light" and got this story told by you in person. Big THANKS for being you Roman!
😍😍😍
My interpretation on the your beautiful art is more grimdark. Space marines constantly idealise these heroic last stands takeing down as many foes as possible. However against the tyranids it simply does.not.matter. The tyranids clearly have no end to their numbers and the Marines are clearly being dragged down under their weight. The losses they inflicted are also meaningless as the hive fleet will simply reabsorb the biomass of their dead alongside the space marines dead. Humanity struggles and rages but its all meaningless, the human sacrifices means nothing and the casualtys they inflicted against the swarm will mean nothing. Pure distilled grimdarkness and i love it! Thank you.
Thank you for such a beautiful Interpretation and look on this diorama. I am really glad you enjoy it this much! Thank you for your time!
I recall seeing this piece some years before I began painting miniatures. I am an automotive modeler firstly. Having started in the early 70's when my Dad bought me a kit for us to put together as Father and Son. I stayed with it all through my life. When I saw miniatures becoming popular and the impressive painting techniques I wanted to challenge myself and break new ground. Gone were the highly polished lacquer paint jobs. Now the rust and the dust are where I dwell.
I never abandoned cars and bikes. They are just another part of what I do as a hobby.
But seeing "The Last Light" and knowing it was made with devotion and deep commitment was satisfying. Now have met you in a sense I see how deeply connected it is to your life.
I have sold a few cars in the past, and boxing them up is always emotional. I recall all I put into the car. All the hours detailing and buffing the paint. The research and the planning.
I feel it.
It takes a special person to have the foresight to create such a piece. There are a million stories wrapped up in one large story in this piece. I could look at it for days and continue to learn something new about it. I am absolutely blown away by this piece. Thank you for your dedication in making this into reality
Many thanks for your kind compliment! Very much appreciated!
Love what is in the background for this video. I never realized that a talking head video would be so much more chill to watch if people would film them outside.
Yeah, I am often in nature. I like to be there more instead of in front of a computer. Usually when I am at my workbench I like to work miniatures, not speak about them and I might do more videos like this. It is different :) Thank you for the feedback!
I remember seeing this in a white dwarf I got years ago and it was one of my absolute favorite dioramas for 40k I've seen. Great work and thanks for sharing the process/story on this epic moment.
A pleasure! Thank you for enjoying it!
This looks like it couldve been the climax of a movie moment, the final team of the Tyranid invasion of Baal, all brothers falling except the one Sanguinary Guard holding the line like Sanguinius did at the Eternity Gate
So very true! Maybe Games Workshop got inspired by this diorama. One day I got to read the book.
This miniature alone has led my entire artistic process, I cannot say why but I nearly burst into tears seeing it for the first time
Wow! Thank you for your very kind words.
Incredible. I'm truly amazed at not only what you created physically but also the range of emotion and commitment involved from conception to completion to the eventual parting and going of separate ways. I am deeply moved by the vicarious experience. It's like experiencing the sadness of losing a 'loved one' yet happy to have known them and being a witness to the joy they bring. Incredible work. Thank you.
Many thanks for such a feedback. What you describe is involved in this project. It belangt to my past ... I am happy I was able to explain it properly. Thank you!
The Last Light is by the far the best 40k diorama I've seen and I would even dare to say best diorama, full stop. The dynamic motion, presence and emotion captured is incredible and I am truly jealous of the collector who owns it now. I hope to one day produce something that is ten percent as awesome as this!
Many thanks for your beautiful words! I am happy that you like it so much!
I remember sitting in the auditorium in 2013 when you did the presentation at the Golden Demon. I don't know if we ever spoke before? It was stunning to listen...
I think we never spoke before, true. I am happy we do in the meantime. Love your channel and content and thank you for the tips and pointers. That presentation was really interesting, I remember back: I was sooooo nervous!

it must feel crazy to know that your piece inspired such a pivitol moment in the 40k storyline. true legend.
It does. Pride is also a part of it!
I'm rediscovering the game and hobby after over 20yrs and this was the most inspirational video so far. I love your passion and it obviously shows in your work.
Thank you very much! Happy that it shows! Welcome back!
This is a true work of art! I hope that, one day, this masterpiece finds itself presented in a museum of Miniature Art instead of being in the hands/house/cabinet of a private collector. Roman, to me you are the Rembrandt van Rijn of miniature/diorama art! Thank you for this inspiring video! Cheers, Rob
Thank you for your beautiful words, Rob!
but hes not the only artist, all the models were designed by the sculptors at games workshop, so to call him Rembrandt is a bit of a stretch
Thank you for sharing this part of your life with everyone!! Such an amazing work of art made by such an amazing artist!! Your work is so inspiring!! Thanks again for sharing, opening up about your years long journey!!

A great look into your thoughts and the process that went into making this work of art, need to say that seeing your post on Instagram finally inspired me to create a diorama of my own. And while nowhere on a scale and awesomeness of yours. I am nevertheless thankful to you for giving me that spark to do it 🙏.
My pleasure, really. Inspiring others to creation is the most beautiful thing. Period!
tnx mate, i remember seeing this piece in whitedwarf or online when it came out, and for all this years it has stayed in my mind as the platonic ideal of what tyranids are about, and the greatest diorama i ever saw. it is truly meaningful to hear about how it was made
Yes, I remember it made it to the White Dwarf back then, shortly after the Games Day! Thank you for the feedback on the video!
An truly incredible project and fantastic to see the process from beginning to the end!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for following and liking my journey!
This came out very close to the time when I re-entered the hobby, it's not the type of thing you ever forget!
More than anything I'd seen at that point, it brought home what 'grimdark' was as an emotional reaction to a piece. So cinematic.
So glad you made this content to satisfy curiosity further, and thanks for your masochism in making it happen :)
Very happy you enjoy this video and the diorama! Many thanks for your kind comment!
This peice would make Frazetta blush. Bravo.

I remember seeing pictures of Last Light for the first time and being blown away.
In the last couple months I've convinced friends of mine to join me in this wonderful hobby of ours. Painting their first miniatures. One said "I think it would be really fulfilling to do full dioramas of scenes and scenarios". Last Light was the first thing I showed him, and he was just as awestruck as I was the first time I saw it.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful story and thank you very much for sharing the Last Light. You got some lucky friends!

Thank you very much for sharing Roman, thats always been one of your best features! I sad I have never really gotten to see it up close since you won the slayersword, I was there that day but only got to see it through the glass cabinets. Hello from Saigon. I have been a WH40K fan for the majority part of my life. This video of your compelled me to simply express my appreciation on your work. The weight of emotion and the investment you have placed into your works resonate deeply in me for that is the same way I approach my other passion, that is photography.

As a fellow diorama builder and lover this is a beautiful build and amazing story telling both video and diorama wise! I absolutely love it I wish I had more time to build dioramas but I make them for my YT channel so need to cut corners like there’s no tomorrow 😅 (builds need to be done in a week then editing 😅). Telling stories and showing lore through dioramas is such and interesting thing to me and I have to say I’ve not sold any of my builds as I know it’s hard to let go! Keep going and keep building these beautiful captures of a story in the 3D form!
And again just incredible piece of art 👌
Yes, it was a hard and interesting moment, giving it away. I see your case. Well, for me I do not play the UA-cam game like UA-cam wants me too, means I do not have video every week. I could not do it without losing the fun in creation. Hats off! Thank you for your kind words!
@@ROMANLAPPATMINIATUREART it’s strange I definitely enjoy the … pressure… 😅 of building quickly but I do feel like I need more time sometimes. The longest build I did was about 4 weeks which was the Horus heresy box that came out last year. I used every model in the box to make the Istvaan V drop site massacre. One of my favourite bits of lore. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to reply and again incredible work all round I’ve watch a few of your vids now 👍 very inspiring work ☺️

One thing I appreciate and try not to take for granted, is being born English speaking. I've since forgotten (due to no real world practice) Swedish and French which I was fluent in decades ago, but it really is a blessing having international artists like yourself being able to express your thoughts clearly for us.
Off topic but it's where my mind went

Das freut mich sehr! Danke Dir für das tolle Lob!
damn homie, as somebody who loves the creative side of wargaming more than the actual wargame part; this is the type of project i love. There is an impressive amount of motion implication happening here and by golly, it's breathtaking. With people like you representing the hobby, hopefully people will slowly begin to see and appreciate the artistic side of wargames. Maybe one day my family will be disappointed in me not for being a "hobbyist", but instead they will be disappointed in me for being an "artist"... Probably not, but a man can dream anyway.
Many thanks for your kind words. Really happy that you enjoy this diorama so much! Yes, same for me here. I origin from the gaming aspect, but enjoyed the creative side more and more. All the best on your journey! I had the same thoughts with my parents once - I even scared them when I made miniatures and teaching about painting them my job - instead of becoming a teacher for art and art history (what I studied). They were scared for a long time that I took this path. Now they are proud.
