Violinist Isaac Stern once said: "Practice slowly and don't practice until you can play it correctly, but until you can't play it incorrectly anymore."
Peter Laman Thank you, Isaac Stern! I'll put that on my wall !
Peter Laman good
FANTASTIC ADVISE!!!!
this means, perfect technique become second nature.
Peter Laman This statement is a life changer, thank you for posting it
Great advice that I've heard and taken from many teachers over the years. Practicing wrong = playing = wrong. Practicing right = playing right. Very sound advice !!
And play and practice in front of all of your friends and family until they're entirely bored with you. It's the only way that I've found to get over those pesky stage fright nerves. Play in front of anyone who asks you to and do it all the time.
Excellent. My teacher many years ago said to practice a piece by playing it as slowly as possible. He meant very very slowly, so it feels slower than possible. This gives the fingers and brain a chance to link together. I don’t follow this advice all the time, but when learning a new piece or working on something quite tricky, going slower than seems possible is a very good way of making progress (which seems counter-intuitive). My teacher was John Cadman.
I feel like I am at an AA meeting you have revealed all my sins now I'm out of the closet and I must face my Demond's I have work to do❗️Thank you Gohar🎓♥️
:)
Most important lesson to learn for anyone who desires to make substancial progress. Thank you.
this will be a challenge for me. When I get to the fifth and last one, I'll get a mild panic attack thinking, "c'mon don't screw it up or you'll have to start all over again!". This is a mental challenge for me.
Also for me. This is one of my biggest problems also in playing pieces. I'm scared when the difficult passage is coming like "do it good, do it good"... but most of the times I fail.
Anyway, thanks for the lesson, Gohar!
@@mugoletti9730 Thanks for the advice. I'll try to do like this for sure, see what happens.
This is my guitar school, LOL. Her advice comes her playing experience and her top notch instructors,...this is as good as it gets!
Gracias hermosa por compartor tus conocimientos.Raul gomez
Articulate and precise the tips you gave us are so simple and basic that I was wondering why I hadn’t done so, earlier.
Thank you Gohar ( hugggg)
I‘ve heard this advice many times, but when you offer it, it finally sinks in. Thank you, Gohar. By the way, you have a beautiful smile.
Interesting, sure wished i hadn't stopped playing 25 years ago but better late than never.
My daughters are studying piano and I've been explaining this to them for SO long. I love this video and your explanation. Thank you.
Excellent tip and very Clear explanation, thanks a lot for sharing!!
Great Lesson! Thank you Gohar. Thank you SBM.
Exactly what I say my students ... but do they listen ..?
NOOO !
what she is asking is really hard, man. this type of practicing doesn't work for everyone. you attention and it's span has to be like, all classical guitar for this kind of thing.
Yes, it DOES work for everyone. If you have issues with your attention span, that is a different topic altogether. A person is either willing to put in the time to get it right, or they are not.
@Ricardo Hernández go away you troll! Gohar is an incredible Classical guitarist. This video was very informative and kind of her to do. Show some respect.
Ps. I see your name in comments on a lot of classical guitar UA-cam videos. And, youre always negative, rude and mean! What is your problem? I feel sorry for you. You hate everyone. Bitter with a chip on your shoulder. Get some help!
You have to sell the idea to your students, I suppose. With younger students you can turn it into a game. Something like: repeat this section 5 times, but if you make a mistake you have to start over. Or show how you would use a metronome yourself also works. Just telling them: practice with a metronome doesn't work with most students.
@SBM: A contrasting backdrop would work better than the black curtain, which makes her appear to be a puppet-head (and which certainly is not the case!!)
Can you share the score for the passage you player with tab.thanks
Your talking fast when metronom’s tempo fast 😅
This was one of the most valuable practice techniques I've learned playing guitar. Gohar is only the second guitarist I've heard talk about it. Another valuable practice technique I've learned is the concept of playing each piece slowly.
Indeed, slow is the way to go, especially if you can keep the focus and do it all right
This (her ideas here) seems to be the best kept secret on the internet. It is not fun, it is tedious, it is frustrating, but it produces results! It apears impossible to sell these ideas because it takes a lot of effort. Behind every accomplished player I've ever heard is 10,000 hours or more.
Satisfied customer. No better place to get strings!
Yes, your advice is very valuable for everyone to slow down for practice and warm up. Speed up gradually once everything is fine rhythm , correct notes, musicality, etc.
A big TY for the lesson 👍✌
Speech tempo also follows the metronome😀
Diteggiatura sbagliata.
why do I feel that you were playing faster than 176 (@5:10) ... your speed was something like 200-210 :/
PS: I am new to using the metronome.... I tried to play it at 176 with 1/4 note but it is really slower than what you've played...am I missing something?
03:07
she: did you get all the notes?
me: 😞notes?
Hello Gohar. Your guitar sounds fantastic. Who designed it? What woods is it made of? And thank you very much for your suggestions to improve playing the guitar.
Thank you 🙏🙏🙏
EXCELLENT ADVICE GOHAR...It does make sense to break a piece down and isolate the trouble spots to perfect them. So when you play the music all together, everything connects with no mistakes... and things flow like they're supposed to. By the way I watched your video on tremolo. And although you're a lovely lady to begin with, when I watched your video on playing difficult passages, you look so much more beautiful!!! Keep up the good work... And thanks for the musical inspiration.
Very good vídeo. Thank you for having recorded and published.
nice video!. where may I get a metronome like that?, I'm using a digital one but it's bother me a lot and the sound of the old one is softer. please I really appreciate it.
Hi Danny,
it is a Seiko Quartz Metronome - SQ50V, available here
www.stringsbymail.com/seiko-quartz-metronome-sq50v-2580.html
Very nice, Gohar. It would be helpful to show the score for this passage with "your" fingerings penciled in.
I agree with jesuisravi. it is helpful, thanks. And Ms. Vardanyan looks beatiful.
Thanks for this explanation!! It's very good
Gohar Vardanyan is very good in Teaching for for Guitar Practice. Bravo!
Excellent advice, thank you Ms. Vardanyan. I've always done three perfect repetitions, but my day to day satisfaction with my progress has always been minimal. It makes sense that this method will increase my satisfaction. Thanks again.
Thank you very much Maistra 🎼🎵🎶🌼💚👍
bonsoir GOHAR quelle etude de hector villas lobos merci
Villa lobos Etude no1
(section du milieu)
Very good. Please remember, that we are teaching not our hands, but programming our brain in the right way. This ony emphasises what you said. Our hands never make a mistake if our brain was programmed in the right way!
The basis of any skill is the clear visualisation of where I am (where my fingers are at the moment) and where I want each finger to go next and in music it is combined with internally hearing every note, not just the melody, but also every little side note and simultaneously envision the greater context. Like when you read a text. You see every single letter, understand how it sounds in the group that makes up a word and understand that word in the context of the sentence (and preferably the whole text). If you do this in music, you will be able soon to improvise, to compose, to be creative and above all, relish the music in such a deep way that you will forget about the audience, the performance - but be just compleately absorbed. You are on the right way.
Such a great video. I watched this two years ago, took notes. Incorporated some of it into my practice, and have subsequently forgotten everything. :) I'm super psyched I found it again. Thanks for posting this.
You're so welcome!
This lesson is exactly what I’ve been trying to teach myself lately. Getting confirmation from the pros (a lovely one at that) ( respectfully) tells me I must be doing something right. Excellent lesson. Thank you so much 😊
Glad it was helpful!
You are an excellent teacher with a fantastic technique .Great lessons .
Como podría conseguir las partituras?
Yes! What I tell my students. Use the metronome to structure your practice time.
Great lesson and clearly presented. Thanks, Gohar.
BRQVO ★★★★★★★★★★★
One of the most important lessons for any instrument.
A really valuable lesson and excellent video too
Hi, I still don't understand where I can find the exercise in notes, I have the 12 etydes of Villalobos and in the 1st etyde are many short exercises and I don't know what is the part I going to play, anyone who can help me ? thanks
I am confused... In Etude 1 there are only arpeggios but from one part which has slurs. Thats the part she is playing. Surely you can just play through the piece and find this?
Pretty cute when you pretended to get something wrong :D
I am sorry for a stupid question but you said your metronome speed is 112 , i wonder that 112 for a quarter note or what does that mean? I am not good at rhythm.
112 BPM + 112 quarter notes per minute - she is playing eighth notes - don't be sorry - you are not stupid - you were just not sure - now you are !
Nice lesson and well presented. Can you please post the name of the piece that the passage is from? I know I've heard it somewhere. Thank you.
Heitor Villa-Lobos: Etude No. 1 (this passage is somewhere over the middle) He wrote 12 of them, and though they are obviously technical studies, they also remain standard concert repertoire since they were introduced by Segovia
Wow are you thin or is it my impression?
Valuable teaching. Thank you!
It was very nice to see you miss a note!!
Great advice!
Your lessons are _not_ boring.
Very helpful. Thanks for posting this.
Glad this help you, as well as many others! Stay tuned for more great videos to come. Or you can see many more on our video page of our website www.stringsbymail.com/videos/
Please don't speed up when you are saying the name of the composer and piece. that makes it very hard to understand.
Etude #1 by Villa-Lobos
Thank you.
No Problem! I'm currently learning it myself
I'm working on this piece for two years now and still struggling with it. I hope Gohar's video will help.@@shahaab
You control the speed of the video. This is not a problem.
Interesting! I did this search and this is the exact piece and section I am struggling with! Every one seems to have a different fingering for this section!
Morris Peltz what is the name of the piece? She said it but I couldn't quite make out what she said.
nicholas klusener Villalobos etude #1 there’s a songsterr for this one

Hermosa!
Saludos, ¿ podría decirme qué digitación usa para la mano derecha en el sistema 12 (2do compás) 2 últimas cuartinas de semi-corcheas Si-Sol-Mi-Si , Sol-Mi-Re# ?
Extremely helpful. Thank you! I love how you get straight to the point and explained the why is most important too. Liked and subscribed.
Thanks Jim! We appreciate it.
easy to figure it out, but it would have been best if you could instruct a little bit on the fingers used for the right hand as well. i assume it as P-MIMI....P
These lessons are so good. I’m glad I found your channel.
hi! do you have the tabs for this ?
