Manny is an educated boxer, this is a variation of Dempseys drop step and it’s the key to true power. Pacmans power comes from the feet, hips, legs and back
One thing Manny does that looks "clumsy" and "unpolished" by textbook standards (but almost always works to his advantage) is his tendency to not withdraw his lead hand during his 1-2s. On the surface, it looks like he's punching with both hands dangling far in front of his face, which prevents him from getting the rotation needed for a conventional power straight. It _looks_ like childish arm punches, almost like a kid windmilling at his big brother. But the genuis of this technique is that it effectively masks the straight, because boxers are trained to expect the 2 to come after the 1's been retracted. It also blinds opponents by keeping a glove in their field of vision. Manny also overcomes the ostensible lack of power from these arm punches by using his legs to lunge in from RIDICULOUS range, letting his monsterous calves blast him into his opponent's face from a distance even the best boxers never expect until it's too late. He's caught everyone with that punch, Morales, to Marquez, to Bradley, to Thurman, to even Mayweather. It's insane. Of course, it's a risky trick that can eventually be countered by savvy boxers over time, but Manny is smart enough not to abuse it for the most part, because that lunge can easily backfire without the proper setup and reads.
I remember Ricky Hatton's comment when he said: He was struck like a high (voltage/amperes/wattage) electricity of the left hand punch on his face by MP.
