    Good to hear the SK is still going strong.. Just ordered one for my Phoenix

    I maidened my Phoenix yesterday with all the stock components. It's interesting that there is now a metal plate at the front to stiffen the motor mounting and I experienced no vibration at all and there is stacks of power. HK seem to be shipping with 6 servos so flaps are available as standard.
    Only mods are 1: extra rudder hinge near the horn and 2: Diamond tape on the hinges for extra security.

    Thanks for a great video. I think you've just made my mind up about the Phoenix 2000. I can't wait to get one now...

    I also changed all my servos for metal geared (really cheap ones from HK £1:83 each) and the difference is phenomenal. Do this before anything else I crashed 3 times through servo failure, then do the motor mount modification and you'll have the perfect model.
    Love your vids Den.

    What a thoughtful review. Seems like a lot of Phoenix 2000 owners struggle with the motor/firewall. I have as well and settled on the same motor as did you after similar issues with heat or lack of power.

    Thanks for sharing your experiences with the Phoenix. Gives the rest of us a better chance of getting her set up properly from the beginning :)

    Congratulation for your ilustrative video. Today, I make first flight of my Phoenix2000 with motor Turnigy 3536-1250kv and propeller Aeronaut 10x6"( Plenty power :-))). But after a few minutes of flight appeared vibration problem ( The motor bench is very weak from factory !!!) I will reinforce it just like you. Thanks from Granada (Spain)

    phoenix is a must have plane. i like the radian too though. i have both. i like the phoenix 2000. i have coming the evolution. used the same sk motor as you but it wasn't good. almost burned the motor. used a 480 and motor battery and esc were all cold. i'll get it in the air this week. nice flights.

    Do you checked that the propeller was correctly ballanced ? It's the main source of vibrations...

    I had same vibration on my phoenix 2000, balancing the prop with a bit of scotch tape fixed it. Also needed to reinforce the firewall with plywood.

    Great review! I have one original P2k and one with a 2830-1100kv Turnigy. The modification of the latter gave problems comparable with yours (and no extra power). It seems that you had bad luck with your original motor, which should normally perform OK, without vibes. Happy flights you all!

    Great video man! I just ordered one as an empty plane £45 including shipping from Hobbyking. I have motors escs and servos in other planes. My Easy Pigeon will retire for now as I don't like 3 channel flying too much.

    Nice strengthening mods, but I doubt that was the cause of the vibration.
    A couple of questions if you're still around; Are you still flying the Phoenix 2000? Have you seen the V2 and what do you think of it?

    Great video. Can you tell me what sort of cameras you used on the plane?

    • @ColdScience
      @ColdScience  10 років тому +1

      The camera's I used on the plane where keychain camera's type #16. I don't really use them anymore, because the Mobius is much better (1080p versus 720p). It is somewhat bigger, but still it is a small camera. Check this site for more information: www.chucklohr.com/808/mobius/. It helped me a lot!

    hello good afternoon I wanted to know how much of dual rate I use in the ailerons and elevator for a smooth flight?

    • @ColdScience
      @ColdScience  6 років тому

      That highly depend on how you have set up the maximum throw. I have set them to maximum with the pushrods on the ailerons and have a dual rate of 60% or 50% depending on the flightmodus I use. That is because I wanted maximum throw when I use crow. Setting the dualrate to 50% sets the throw in my case back to specification.
      If you do not plan to use crow, I would advice you to set the throw to specification using the pushrods and then use expo if you think it is still reacting to aggressive on small inputs. This will put less strain on the servo’s, give you more use of the resolution of your servo, they will last longer and draw less power. That’s always a good thing I think.
      If you just want to have it all, and I can’t see why not :-), set up the pushrod so you can get maximum throw. Then go in to the dualrates menu of your TX and set it up so the throws are within specs. For me that was at about 50% dualrate. To make it silky smooth dial in some expo.
      Beware however, your plane will be different from mine, so I won’t give you any guarantees. It might not work for you. This is what worked for me in the end. Just experiment and have fun!

    hello I also have Phoenix 2000 and I also have vibration problems when the engine accelerates vibration appears, has easy solution?

    • @8UP1977
      @8UP1977 10 років тому +1

      Balance your prop. Folding props are usually very poorly balanced.

    • @JohnFHendry
      @JohnFHendry 9 років тому

      8UP1977 Yes and very hard and time consuming to balance correctly. I do each piece separately to get the hub balanced and blades weight and c/gs as close to the same as I can get them being so small as if dong a helicopter blade, and then assemble it for the final balance and once again after mounted. Make's a big difference when you get it balanced like a normal prop especially if using a camera. But it's a major pain to consider if wanting to use a folding prop.

  • @stoneenforcer
    @stoneenforcer 9 років тому +1

    good vid. however, if the mount was breaking, its caused by vibrations. its most likely the spinner shaft untrue, bad balance on blades ect.... you didn't fix the issue you just put a band aide on it

      With a prop balancer and put some tape on the lighter side.

    Hey, Check out some of my Phoenix 2000 videos to see what this bird can do. Great glider and I love it. It can carry a heavy load (batteries and camera) and still get lift. On average I glide for 10-12 minutes on a 1 minute climb with no thermals.
    Also check out how I have my flaps set up. It really helps to dial them in to make the most out of them to get lift.
    Nice vid and hope to see more

    THE VIBRATION IS LIKELY PROP FLUTTER AT HIGH RPM buying a faster or more powerful motor isnt going to fix it.

      Mine flew so well, and so did the 2400 version, that I'm baffled. I'm sorry to hear you had so much trouble and I hope you have recovered from the experience. The Phoenix is one of my very favourite aircraft, it tracks beautifully and is practically vice-free. I've now had the stock 2400 plug and play version and its powerful enough for a glider. My kit version of the 2000 has a bigger motor and it weighs more so its an even more solid performer, but less useful for soaring. I'd not hesitate to recommend it to fellow club members.

    I can't believe what I have just seen ....... This is not good I have owned a 1600 for 2 years now it flew with no engine problems and in some really strong winds, set up well it will float much better than than the radion. I have just ordered the 2000 and 2600 it is such a versatile plane. I fly with a 4000 3s some times a heavier battery works better in the air ..... If you look at UA-cam I can't find anyone that has had the engine problems you have had.
