It Starts Without Battle Scars
Over 2 years ago, me and Sander flew our Parkzone Warbirds for the first time. Not long after that, I misplaced the footage and got caught up in some ridiculous stuff life threw at me (thx universe, I love you too...).
Just recently I received a bargain offer for PowerDirector 14, so I decided to upgrade, include ColorDirector and put it to the test. As luck would have it, I found the misplaced folder containing tons of footage, including stuff I need for a planned Cub LP homage I intend to make (I retired that great, old battered plane).
This is the end result and after working with ColorDirector I must conclude that it is a remarkable tool. Only problem I am facing now is that my PC needs an upgrade… It can barely handle the workload ColorDirector throws at it. Hope you enjoy the video!

After visiting David Windestal's site for information about his tri-copters, I got sidetracked by his topic about Discus Launched Gliders. Before that, I knew nothing about the F3K class so I started to read up and got fascinated by these beautiful gliders. After multiple tri-copter crashes and rebuilds I decided that I would rather spend my time on something completely different. Building a DL...
Phoenix 2000, not so plug & play
Переглядів 60 тис.11 років тому
The Phoenix 2000 is a wonderful plane. However, I bought it as a ARF and in the end it really wasn't that simple. Maybe it is if you install a wimpy powertrain it will be okay, but if you beef it up a little, there will be trouble as I experienced. The nylon fuselage needs the nose reinforced, or else your powertrain could be ripped out, probably mid-flight. Would make an excellent and short UA...

This is the first and final video of my F-22 v2. The maiden flight went extremely well, but disaster struck on the second flight that evening. I suspect that the problem lies with the gyros, because they failed on me before when I was pre-flight-testing the plane. This F-22 was using 2 servos on the ailevons with gyros and 2 on the rudder. Sometimes the ailevon servos would lock up for about 4 ...
Varta Fly Flies
Переглядів 1,6 тис.12 років тому
After lying on a shelf for roughly twenty years, I decided to revive my Robbe Varta Fly. I only flew the plane twice in two years while being on vacation in Luxembourg with my parents. Twenty years ago (1992) I did not have the money to spare for a new ESC, which was destroyed in the second 'hard landing'. That was long ago, and now it was time to bring this bird in the air where it belongs. Th...
Hobby King Blue(s)Cub
Переглядів 3,5 тис.12 років тому
The BlueCub from HobbyKing looks great, but the version I built flies like a brick. The plane is tail heavy and needs lots of weight to compensate, even with a heavier motor than advised by Hobby King. After adding lots of lead, it flies fine but only at a rather high speed. It is capable of some nice acrobatics. Pull down on the throttle and it will tip stall like crazy. The most exciting time...

My first flight with the true HD keychain camera #11. CG point had shifted, resulting in a far too high landing speed. Must adjust the CG for that the next flight. A field with short grass would have helped also. However, suffered no damage so... who cares :-).

    I had same vibration on my phoenix 2000, balancing the prop with a bit of scotch tape fixed it. Also needed to reinforce the firewall with plywood.

    Nice strengthening mods, but I doubt that was the cause of the vibration. A couple of questions if you're still around; Are you still flying the Phoenix 2000? Have you seen the V2 and what do you think of it?

    hello good afternoon I wanted to know how much of dual rate I use in the ailerons and elevator for a smooth flight?

    • @ColdScience
      @ColdScience 6 років тому

      That highly depend on how you have set up the maximum throw. I have set them to maximum with the pushrods on the ailerons and have a dual rate of 60% or 50% depending on the flightmodus I use. That is because I wanted maximum throw when I use crow. Setting the dualrate to 50% sets the throw in my case back to specification. If you do not plan to use crow, I would advice you to set the throw to specification using the pushrods and then use expo if you think it is still reacting to aggressive on small inputs. This will put less strain on the servo’s, give you more use of the resolution of your servo, they will last longer and draw less power. That’s always a good thing I think. If you just want to have it all, and I can’t see why not :-), set up the pushrod so you can get maximum throw. Then go in to the dualrates menu of your TX and set it up so the throws are within specs. For me that was at about 50% dualrate. To make it silky smooth dial in some expo. Beware however, your plane will be different from mine, so I won’t give you any guarantees. It might not work for you. This is what worked for me in the end. Just experiment and have fun!

    So I'm about selecting the new power system for these birdie :) Please let me know what motor and propeller do You use and what li-poly accu You choose. I want to avoid adding extra lead and just bought larger accu.

    • @ColdScience
      @ColdScience 8 років тому

      I used a Turnigy Aerodrive SK3-920kv with a 10x6 foldingprop because I allready had them on stock. Together with a 2200mAh I still needed the amount of lead in front that I mentioned in the video description. Maybe you can move every thing forward (including servo's) and lose some of the weight. Don't get your hope up, because this plane was designed arround a heavy motor, ESC and 7 to 8 cell NiCd. Pretty heavy stuff so this plane has a short nose, which worked out nicely balancing the thing 2 decades ago... One more thing to keep in mind, this plane is made from plura. After a few years this stuff becomes brittle, meaning it wil break very easy. I flew this plane out of nostalgia and then it is great. If this is your first plane, I would advise you to buy a foamy first. Modern trainers are far more forgiving, easy to repair, cheap and in my opinion more fun for the money. Let me know how it workes out, and upload your maiden!

    • @adamklimaszewski9414
      @adamklimaszewski9414 8 років тому

      I choose Emax GT2215/09 KV1180 - 280W motor together with 10x6 prop - slightly more rpms will give more thrust. And i choose 4000 mAh 3s Li-Po accu - these set will weigh 450 - 500 g. Oryginal set was approx 600 gram, so let see - I only miss the accu :) I keep servos on oryginal place with receiver on servo wall, bringing accu so close to front as possible. I know that these fuselage is easy to break so I'm scaried before first flight - but I'm training a lot on FMS simulator with my DX6i before first flight - if maiden flight will kick my ass then I will buy foamie ;) On the next week I have to l work with balacing and fine tuning and I will wait for perfect weather. So far I have one photo: s1379.photobucket.com/user/klimaszewskiadam/media/WP_20160512_011_zpspne7tha1.jpg.html And cross Your fingers before first flight ;)

    Great review! I have one original P2k and one with a 2830-1100kv Turnigy. The modification of the latter gave problems comparable with yours (and no extra power). It seems that you had bad luck with your original motor, which should normally perform OK, without vibes. Happy flights you all!

    I can't believe what I have just seen ....... This is not good I have owned a 1600 for 2 years now it flew with no engine problems and in some really strong winds, set up well it will float much better than than the radion. I have just ordered the 2000 and 2600 it is such a versatile plane. I fly with a 4000 3s some times a heavier battery works better in the air ..... If you look at UA-cam I can't find anyone that has had the engine problems you have had.

    I maidened my Phoenix yesterday with all the stock components. It's interesting that there is now a metal plate at the front to stiffen the motor mounting and I experienced no vibration at all and there is stacks of power. HK seem to be shipping with 6 servos so flaps are available as standard. Only mods are 1: extra rudder hinge near the horn and 2: Diamond tape on the hinges for extra security.

      Mine flew so well, and so did the 2400 version, that I'm baffled. I'm sorry to hear you had so much trouble and I hope you have recovered from the experience. The Phoenix is one of my very favourite aircraft, it tracks beautifully and is practically vice-free. I've now had the stock 2400 plug and play version and its powerful enough for a glider. My kit version of the 2000 has a bigger motor and it weighs more so its an even more solid performer, but less useful for soaring. I'd not hesitate to recommend it to fellow club members.

    Eerst heb jij me aan de Phoenix2000 geholpen en de juiste oplossing geboden voor het vibreren van de motor. Nu heb je dezelfde kist als ik gekocht en ben je in de DLG :) Leuk en in die video hoorde ik dat je NL bent! Overigens is het wijs de flaps degelijk te programmeren. Je zult zien dat het vangen dan nog veel eenvoudiger wordt. Groeten uit Bergeijk! Waar vliegen jullie trouwens ?

      Wij vliegen op een veldje in Zeewolde. De boeren hebben daar niet zo'n probleem mee, aangezien we best weinig komen tot vliegen. Een beetje wild vliegen is het dus wel, maar niet helemaal :-). Blij te horen dat mijn video geholpen heeft! Overigens heb ik op de DLG een mix zitten met launch mode, thermal mode etc. Wat voor mij een probleem bleek waren de rolroerhoorntjes. Daar zat op een onopvallende manier speling in. Die heb ik een paar weken geleden dus met behulp van wat glasvezel versterkt. Nu is de controle een stuk strakker en ik ben blij dat ik het tijdig ontdekt heb. Mooi toestel blijft het, dus ik zou haar niet graag in de grond zien verdwijnen door een afgescheurde roerhoorn :-).

      Balance your prop. Folding props are usually very poorly balanced.

    • @JohnFHendry
      @JohnFHendry 9 років тому

      8UP1977 Yes and very hard and time consuming to balance correctly. I do each piece separately to get the hub balanced and blades weight and c/gs as close to the same as I can get them being so small as if dong a helicopter blade, and then assemble it for the final balance and once again after mounted. Make's a big difference when you get it balanced like a normal prop especially if using a camera. But it's a major pain to consider if wanting to use a folding prop.
