This is pretty much how he’s played it live for the last thirty years, sometimes depending on how many guitar players he’s got in the band. A detailed lesson with all those layered studio parts would be fun one day.
Yah - I am "intermediate" player and always just played the power chords - adding that little lick just made it a whole new song for me. Just the little something that I needed, Thanks Justin . @whiskers b. good idea , next steps.
Thanks very much for this...look forward to 'growing with' this song...with the more intricate layers etc..May I suggest eye of the tiger for a power chord lesson some day?
Very helpful, Justin. Could I kindly ask that you give an idea of the pickup, tone and amp settings you use in lessons (especially this one). It's frustrating when practicing it doesn't quite sound as good as yours hehe :)
Hi Justin I like the way you break the chords down for beginners to understand had a go at this nearly nailed it apart from a ring finger injury I really enjoy your videos what about black sabbath iron man would like to learn that.
Awesome video! Thank you Justin. You're videos are my #1 go to for learning the 6 string. Hey, who is the mfg of that that coat? Looks great on you. I'm interested. Thanks

That's one Clapton song I just can't listen to any more. That stuff destroyed several close friends marriages and took the lives of two close friends. I used to play this song in college in the 80's. Back when we didn't know what it does to people.
@@windydickbaker1 😂 yeah, because J. J. Cale deserves recognition for his work. He also wrote “Call me the breeze “, “After midnight” along with “Cocaine” but others made them famous. J. J. Didn’t mind that, in fact he was grateful to Clapton for making the song famous as J. J. Would get royalties and get money enough to enjoy life, but avoid the fame, which he really didn’t want… so hard to find interviews or footage of J. J. .. but Clapton and especially Mark Knopfler was very much inspired by J. J. Tulsa style and sound, which he kind of invented himself as an amateur sound engineer in his shed. I am rambling on, but J. J. Is really up there with the greats, but not many know of him, although most know some of his songs, i.e. this one “Cocaine”.
When you wanna rock out
But don't know what chords are about
Justaine!

When your day job is done

Hey, Justin thanks for this song. Yes, you're right there is a lot going on with this tune. I must now revisit some of Clapton's old classics.

A Solo or Improvisation lesson on this Tune would be much appreciated.
I'll second that!
It can be played with the index finger (barre) as well. If I am not mistaken the original JJ Cale recording is in the key of C#.

Thank you, Justin! A Fab song of all times!! JJ forever!
Awesome! How about a tutorial on how to get that tone! Lol
First tune I learned when I took up electric guitar 18 months ago! I'll have to revisit it!

Love this lesson! Been in my head today. Thank you, Justin!
The man is relentless, Mr Productivity. Another excellent vid.
This video just reminded me I need to look for lessons on Muddy Waters song Champaign & Reefer.
I was in a band once where our whole set was Cocaine, Purple Haze, Champaign & Reefer, Heroine followed by Dylan’s Everybody Must Get Stoned.
I can’t be the only one who thinks that the first riff sounds like NIB by Black Sabbath
@@janne_1954 yep, that too
You are not the only!
Great detailed lesson thank you Justin for sharing

J.J. Cale
