Justin is an ex-medical doctor turned full-time learning coach. He's passionate about taking a very practical and evidence-based approach to learning and self-management. Justin is the co-founder of iCanStudy, which developed the world's first fully integrated, high-efficiency learning system using cognitive retraining approaches.

I think many people doesn’t have the luxury (and courage) to leave medicine and pursue another job that will give you enough money. Many successful youtubers have left medicine but only after their you tube channel got successful.

@@KhadijaAdam-fd7fj no because you can't control whether you become successful off UA-cam and the like. You can have the most perfect golden content and know how to play the algo perfectly but if it just doesn't pick up then it doesn't happen
sometimes luck and external circumstances prevent things from happening and it's naive to think that they don't

What a coincidence, I'm currently studying to be a nurse and while I'm not a nurse yet or worked at a hospital, I don't know if nursing really is for me. I only got into it because of parents. But I know that if nursing isn't for me, I'm switching.

I am thinking of dropping out of med school and it's my 4th year. The thing that's making it so hard for me to go on with it, is the identity that comes with it. It's very hard for me separate myself from something I've done for so long - that I didn't even get time to think about other options. And I loved the "study" and learning part of it, but the lifestyle (and something else I cannot put a finger to) dreads me.

@meganwilliamscash7304 so do you really wanna do it? Tbh I don't feel like you do, but it's much more of big decision. I'm in the middle of thinking too, the career process is too long and competitive, which is okay if I really want to. But I'm scared I'm regret it for everything and my mental health. But f you think yours is just a phase, keep going.😊

Exactly omg this makes me feel so much better. I’ve been trying to explain this to people not in college and who don’t understand but are constantly saying “well you’re almost done” it’s like well I refuse to be unhappy & doing something I don’t want to do and get more debt for it. That makes no sense

relate to this a bit. im a first year med student going to have his final exam and man. the worst year of my life whilst all my friends live it out. before med school, u ask me if i wanna do med there is 0 doubt in it. i loved it so much, heck i wrote a 8 page research project on copd (a disease) when i only needed 2 pages out of pure intrigue and joy. now i just feel miserable whenever i see a slide of information. i dont know if this is a sign i should quit or if im just being silly but ive never been this miserable, and i had a pretty crappy childhood so saying this was the most miserable year of my life means a lot

I have my 1st year EoY exams in 3 weeks and i have no motivation whatsoever to study. My passion for medicine is completely dead and i don't even think i'll make it to 2nd year with my grades. I've been venturing into trading and i've fallen in love with it. My parents will kill me but it is what it is.

I am a 2 year medical student but been struggling from the starting , i want to leave it but I don’t know what to do other than this as I have given 5 years to get into med school. Most probably ,i have to repeat 2 year. It might seem stupid but i have start looking into my other interests and whatever happens i have to complete the degree. I am not going to go into residency for sure .Can’t to talk to anybody because they all be like you are to privileged to be thinking like that . In total ,med school hasn’t been kind to me.

I am sorry you've had this experience and I totally relate, I still have three years to go and I feel like im keeping on just to get the degree, I dont feel like I belong in medecine but I am terrified to switch to something else without a diploma. I also feel very alone I can't talk about this to anyone who would truly understand w/o judgement. People magnify medecine and the title of doctor but they know nothing about the reallity of a doctor's and a med student's daily life.

I need help. I am currently pre-med but I have talked to other pre-meds and these people are nothing like me. I also don’t want to be broke until I’m in my mid 30s. What I really want to do is chemical engineering but the problem is I feel I might regret not pursuing medicine later on. Please help.

Also off topic but this is I think when I found out you're 28? And don't ask me why cause I really don't know why but I thought you were 40? 😅 That part was a bit awkward so I thought it was a joke and legitimately laughed to myself. Then I was like "Wait, was it? Wait why do I think he's 40 to begin with..." and had to rewind that part to investigate if it was a joke or not. I felt so bad. 😅 You don't look 40 btw, must've been a brain hiccup!
