- Soon, I'm embarking on a southbound (SOBO) thru-hike of the 2800 mile Continental Divide Trail. In this video, I go through the lightweight gear I'm bringing on this trek. Since I'm starting in Glacier National Park, I will start with an ice axe, micro-spikes and some other specific snow travel gear that I'll eventually send home. My new pack gives me the option of removing the hip-belt and stay when I want a more ultralight setup, but keeping them attached gives me more comfort on the longer stretches between trail towns and potential long water carries. I'm very happy with the gear I've chosen and although my base weight disqualifies me from labeling this setup as ultralight, I'm excited to see how it performs out on trail!

Nice gear video. The similarity of our gear list is kinda funny. Right down to the men's version of the shoes and shorts. I'm envious of the sun shirt. None of mine has the zipper and it drives me to distraction. Will look into the Montbell. Thanks for the tip. Good luck.

What I did on my through hike of the HRP (Haute Randonnée Pyrenées), was taking pictures of the maps with my camera as a backup for navigation, didn't need it tough :)

Me and my wife is heading for a trip small "thruhike" across Norway too, Im like a kid.
I have good experience with snow since we are from Norway, I would problaby recomend big gaiters (not dirty girl) instead of lightweight pants, if it is really a problem.
Thank you, gaiters probably would've been helpful! The pants ended up helping me out getting fewer scrapes and bruises when going through a crazy blowdown section though, so I'm glad I brought them!
I hear you about low key wishing you got a 40 liter. I have a 35 L and on long sections things get a wee bit overstuffed but I make it work. All the other times though it's great and I agree that it helps me keep things minimal too.
Yes, I think it's ultimately good, it just would be a lot more comfortable with a 40L on those long stretches haha.
I love all the colors! How do the toothpaste tabs work? Also I loooove the hoodie you are wearing, definitely going to check that out. Have so much fun hiking!
The hoodie is the best! You just chomp on a tab, maybe with a little water in your mouth and it forms into a paste! I've really been loving them.
Looks like a great kit there, thanks for sharing. The pack looks similar to the Waymark 38L EVLV I just got from Garage Grown Gear. Haven't taken it out yet but feels good.
Wondering if an Ursak would be a good idea in griz country rather than hanging, will there always be trees with good height and branches?

I hear a lot of people go the ursack route! I've known people who've had them fail though so I'm more wary.
@@tessmullaney Ok sure, yeah hanging food usually works, although I had a blackbear chew the branch until it broke then got my food...smart bear!😁
You will probably have no problems though. Hope you're having a great trip so far, look forward to your future videos.
People have also had bears chew through their bear canisters so I guess it’s all irrelevant. Just choose what you like best and hope for the best. All you can do is TRY to keep the bears from your food but the only want to guarantee it is to not bring food. 🤷🏽♀️

to be clear, I'm more likely to send my tent home than my bug net....thats an always always.
Also with regards to the worlds worst fear packing object - the in reach - I don't do it but I wonder if tracking alone was good enough....would one of those things you clip on to a dog collar work to track someone in the mountains. I may try it next month in the sierras. Any thoughts from the interweb?
If I want comfort, ready to use product, safety and a good night's sleep, I can carry 5 kg. more (what's the point of hiking if you can't sleep well and feel more tired the next day) Super light tents it's a circus in the forest 😀 Good luck in cold, windy and buggy conditions and have a cool hike 🏕️

35 L is all good?
The pack was amazing, held up so well and so comfy. There were a few time I wish I'd gone for the 40L, but I made the 35 work and was happy with it.

@@filipcullin2132 ice axe loop if you'll ever use an ice axe, loved the shoulder strap pockets. I wish I'd added the secret inside mesh pocket and the double adjustment to the hipbelt.
