I really like Empires of the North (as well as Imperial Settlers) and it's one of my go to solo games. I really like the different factions and that Portal Games is supporting the game through releasing factions (at a very affordable price).
I think "not recommended at all" is too strong a way of putting it. There is lots to enjoy here, and I know solo players who love it. I never played the original Imperial Settlers, sorry!
Btw, are you planing to try out the game : Dark Ritual that is going to come out soon ? I'm looking for this game as the solo mode offers to play the vilain side against the heroes ? Would be great to hear some review of this game from you ! Cheers !
Love this game, good 1 and 2 players As you said, unfortunatly there is not enough quest for the solo game i.m.h.o but i guess that the game was first based for the multiplayer Speaking of multiplayer, i really think that the game is better at 2 and max 3 players. more thant 3 players is going to be a bit too long session. Overall, i really like this little ressources managements game. Mechanics are great And i'm gonna look forward to at least the "Rome expansion" to boost a bit the clans and the islands to explore. The solo is nice, but defenatly better @ Two player. But still, i'm playing it solo from time to time and always have fun ! cheers
I did not like this game at all. In competitive every faction is so focused on doing one gimmick there is not a lot of variety between plays if you replay the faction. Also, the order you draw your card is basically what can determine how many points you will score in the end.If you are unlucky you will not get your key cards early enough and will always lag behind. A lot of people like Empires of the North, but to me it had very little replayability once you played a faction.
I agree somewhat, but I think solo improves this, because the scenario has something specific you need to do, and melding that with the different factions can give pretty varied play.
I don't agree with the first sentiment. I think each faction has several combos to play with. But I DO agree about better tableau builders, especially for solo ;)
@@OneStopCoopShop terraforming Mars solo is a HIGH bar but point taken. But the rest I’ve never seen mentioned in lists of favorite/recommended solo games.

This is my families favourite game to play currently.
Love it! The art sure makes it family friendly, even if you are technically raiding and pillaging ;)

Yeah, good support with new factions and the online solo scenarios. Definitely good choices on their part.
Thanks, Mike! I was wondering if I would like to play this one solo.
It's possible. Clearly wasn't a slam dunk for me altogether, but it's certainly fun.
I miss this classic intro song! Can you please bring it back for a future review video?
Unfortunately that was with a different music provider than the one we are paying for now. So that song is gone to the mists of time! :(
So it's not recommended solo at all? And what about just imperial sellers the regular one?

I hadn't heard of it before now, but it looks interesting. Nice miniatures for sure.

I haven’t played it above 3-players, but I agree it can be a lot of fun with 1-3.

You play each faction once and you've seen all this game has to offer. There are so many better tableau builders out there...

Yeah, had the same experience. I found the level of variety within a faction quite disappointing.
@@OneStopCoopShop I’m curious which solo tableau builders you have in mind.
@@paulhamrick3943 to name a few: Terraforming Mars, Race for the Galaxy, Everdell, 7 Wonders...
