Thank you for posting this. I’m getting ready to install my bed and new wood on my 1956 Chevrolet truck. Very helpful.

I was wondering if you have a picture of how you installed the side steps. I have been looking but I can not find anything on how to install them.

After removing the welded angle strip pieces I'm wondering how to secure the new angle strip sides to the metal side bed of the truck without having to reweld these on. How did you approach this ?

It may be seven years later, but here’s my 2 cents worth! I’m in the process of doing the bed on my 59, currently. I ground off all the old angle bed steel for the wood slats, prepped the metal, and re-welded the strips back on. I used Raptor bed liner on the side inside panels, under the fenders, and on the outside of the panels where the fenders bolt to. Commando Green was painted all other places to include a new tailgate, and bed head panel. The wood was dark stained oak sealed in polyurethane. Thanks for letting me see how the bed wood was laid out. The original wood was so rotten that none of it was left. My truck has been in the family for over 52 years, and is a family heirloom.

Can you do this for my truck? Where do you live and how much would it cost?

If you use carriage bolts through the deck boards then you won't have those ugly square heads sticking up.................
