Happy Monday everyone. Today I am interviewing Kimberly Jolly, the amazing owner of the Fat Quarter Shop. If you have ever watched her videos, you'll know that she works hard to show you fabric designers and their new lines and projects as well as her own patterns and special projects. So grab your sewing, a cup of tea, and sit back and enjoy.
Kimberly Jolly is special in the quilting world. My first experience with an online order was purchasing a quilt pattern from Fat Quarter Shop. Shortly after purchasing, I received a call from her letting me know she had refunded the $5.95 shipping cost, since it was a 1-page paper pattern going in a regular envelope. I appreciate that kind of business owner, who would rather lose a dollar in shipping, but gain a relationship and lifelong customer. Like I said, Kimberly Jolly is special in the quilting world.
What a great interview! Hearing how Kimberly and her husband have kept the business going during covid was eye opening. We really need to support small businesses so they can continue in our new normal world.
I am a beginning quilter. Thank goodness for UA-cam. Thank goodness for Kimberly . I'm following her beginner quilt series. Her tutorials are clear, instructive, and free. The downloadable instruction sheets are better than any quilting book I've looked at. Thank you to Kimberly & Karen and the quilting community for sharing your knowledge and skills.
I just watched this now. Your and Kimberly’s videos are my favourite videos to watch about quilting! I have learned so many new tricks and tips from both of you two and my quilting has improved so much even at 71 lol!!!
Both of you ladies bring such joy and delight to my life and teach me "sew" much ❤ The Fat Quarter Shop is wonderful. I always feel such love and appreciation when I make purchases. 💝
Thanks Karen for giving us the interview with Angie the Gnome Angel. What a delightful woman, I had so much fun listening to you both. Churn Dash blocks! Hilarious! You are both so down to earth and I can relate to your learning curves. I so often think I have to do something perfectly the first time and I can be very hard on myself. You make me realize quilting is fun and getting it done takes away a lot of the doubts you have when you are in the middle of making it. Thank you both for your lovely interview!
I loved this interview Karen. I am a former Canadian West Coast gal with family ties in Toronto who has been living in Texas since 1999. Kimberly has done amazing things here for the quilting community and she is very respected and loved. I came across your channel several months ago and have learned so much from your videos, so thank you.
Y'all are wonderful!!! My craft wouldn't be what it is without both of you. We are human and making mistakes confirms that we are human. 😍. I wouldn't want to watch a robot that is perfect. Thank you for all that you do!!!💕
Thank you for sharing such a wonderful interview. I love FQS and watching Kimberly Jolly on her Friday morning lives. I am a member and follow some of the quilt alongs. FQS is so giving and kind and great customer service too. Be safe and stay healthy.
I enjoyed your interview very much! I follow both of you on YT and watch most of the videos. Kimberly always seems to be such a perfectionist, but she is really a down-to-earth person! I am very inspired by both of you lovely, creative ladies!
Thank you both so much Karen and Kimberley for what you do and all that you share with us in these unprecedented times. You are my absolute favorite on UA-cam. I have just discovered you in 2020 as I had decided I was not gonna let Covid get the better of me. I am so grateful to have made this discovery. You are encouraging and so easy to follow. I am learning so much of the world of quilting even at 75 years of age. Blessings with your careers!
Kimberley is very genuine and truly wants to be an innovator in the quilting world. The FQS is on top of fabric lines and notions, and are real encouragers to others. They get most of my quilting dollars because of their offerings and great customer service. Thanks for this great interview!
I love your UA-cam channel. That was a great interview Karen. Plus it provided a opportunity for me to learn more about Kimberly and give me perspective on the challenges of businesses like hers. I have great respect for the work you both do.

It was very fun to view this interview with Kimberly Jolly. I have enjoyed her UA-cam channels (for the quilting and for the cross stitch) and enjoyed this chance to get to know some different angles. As always, I enjoy your videos, Karen. Thank you.
Thank you Karen. I got called back into work (I work in Healthcare). It's so strange everyone is asking what I'm working on and I have to say nothing. I'm working 24/7 with 2 nights off. It's strange not to be in the middle of a quilt. So thank you for your videos to keep me going. I have to catch your last video on the life of a scrap... I have scraps. lol. I asked my husband if we have adding machine tape. lol. We used to have so many rolls. Thanks for your hard work doing you tube. 💕
Great interview. I enjoy Kimberly's videos. So helpful and real. She makes some mistakes and that helps us all learn! I really appreciate all the free patterns and sew-a-longs at the Fat Quarter Shop.
Karen, thanks for being such a great interviewer. It is a real skill that most people do not understand. I notice it because I used to be a newspaper reporter and a talk show producer and cohost.
Wonderful interview. I’ve recently been watching Kimberly on You Tube and was pleased to see you had interviewed her over a year ago. It was interesting to hear her talk about her business and how it has changed.
I thought it was one of the best interviews to date. Kimberly is so down to earth and interesting. She may be an introvert but she has a great presence and I enjoy all her shows and demonstrations.
Karen, I am very impressed with your interviewing skill; so professional and asking questions that really get to the heart of your subject. Kimberly is a great interview, too. This, in my opinion, has been your best interview to date. Keep up the good work!
Great interview! Kimberly is one of my favorite people in the quilting industry! The Fat Quarter Shop has wonderful customer service and she has a great team that helps her produce all the LIVE streams and tutorials they produce. Thank you for all these interesting interviews !
Great interview with Kimberly Jolly! I watch the FQS Flosstube and it's always so fun and uplifting. I like her even more knowing she's also a fan of true crime! :-)
Your interviews and guests are awesome. But I have to say - this one is the best one yet. So inspiring - listening to Kimberly just motivates me to continue making my charity quilts - my way of helping others. She is very easy to listen to. Love that she is an introvert running a very successful business and truly wants to focus on customer service.
Wonderful interview. Kimberley is the type of person who makes you feel as if you would just like to hang out with her, even tho she’d rather be alone! Me too. Her company is amazing and they really do have the best customer service. Karen, excellent video.
I LOVE the Jelly Roll Jam quilt pattern...as a brand new quilter, I used it to make a few quilts for my grand babies and great niece. It really gave me confidence, and taught me a lot, like nesting seams! Kimberly is a very sweet person and I love to watch her. Thank you Karen for the interview. I also enjoy watching you...Thanks for sharing yourself with us!
Great interview, Karen. Kimberly is such a nice person, and I think is funny. Her livestreams are great, and her kids sometimes will chat with people watching. Customer service from Fat Quarter Shop is outstanding.
Thank you once again for such an informative program; can everyone please pray for all the people affected by the extreme flooding down the east coast of Australia where some places have had well over a meter of rain with more forcast, worse floods for 100 years.🙏💞
I watched Kimberly in old videos , she ,her husband and the crew have made a wonderful on line quilt shop. I am a big UA-cam fan and I try not to miss her and others.
An excellent interview --- it was like we were sitting in a living room, having a friendly, but oh so informational conversation. It gave me a whole new perspective on running an online business, doing videos, anticipating what lies ahead in the quilting life. ...and, oh yes, wife and mother, too! Thanks, Karen. ---one of your best :-)
What a great show Karen! You asked Kimberly some wonderful questions and her answers were so open and honest. She is a true asset to the quilting community. I love all of her live streams and tutorials. You have had such great content in this past year too. I’m soo happy I found your you tube. Thanks so much to both of you ladies!
I found Kimberly and her business one day last summer when my new dog stole a small bag of thread that was sorted for a cross stitch project. I couldn't find it and the kit was old, but I searched online and there was Fat Quarter Shop and they had my thread. I ordered it and then noticed that this was also a wonderful online quilt shop. The rest is history. I have purchased enough fabric to have a wonderful assortment to use in my many quilt projects. Thanks to Kimberly, I have pieced several tops, learned to sandwich my quilts, and now I have a new Bernina Tula Pink 570 machine just for quilting and embroidering on my quilts. There has never been anyone like Kimberly in the business. She's a fresh and friendly face and as down-to-earth as anyone could be. "You do you" is her standard saying and she means it. Use scraps, use favorite fabrics, use whatever you have to make quilts. She is a great teacher and I appreciate everything about her. I also love Just Get it Done. When I started quilting, I found your videos and I watch them with great interest. Your ideas are spot on and so helpful to a new quilter. Thanks to the both of you for all your time and experience in this wonderful hobby!
Aww, what a lovely story, when she was passing quilt stores and 'got curious'. There were no 'quilt stores' yet when I made my first quilt. There weren't Walmarts (that I know of) in Ohio either. I thought big city living was something! Walking to the store to buy the fabric for my clothing! Fast forward to 1984, I had my first job after college. I couldn't yet afford cable TV and it was the first time ever, during my life, I didn't have to work on Saturdays, so I tuned my TV to PBS (Cause there's nothing good on the 3 normal stations on weekends) and saw a woman making a quilt! That's when pulled out that box of left over clothing fabric and made a quilt! (I used half inch seams, shhh, don't tell any one. I know they said quarter inch on tv, but I didn't think that was enough). I'm glad I did tho all that denim wanted to fray. I still have that quilt (30 + years) but its in tatters . . . I can't count the number I've made since then. :)
I'm in my 2nd year quilting and Kimberly, Pat Sloan, and you have been my go to so this was very much enjoyed! Your interviewing skills are great with good choice in questions as well. Now I need Kimberly to interview you.
I am SO enjoying y'all's chat!! Especially about being on camera and making oops. LOL I'm glad she's got a great sense of humor. Lol This is the first time watching y'all! I in Central Texas near Killeen in Copperas Cove!
Just LOVE your interviews. You do such a great job and ask such interesting and informative questions. I have learned so much! I have watched so many UA-camrs use interviews as another platform to promote themselves and don’t give the guest an opportunity to even talk! Not so with you. LOVE your channel!!!💕 Thank you so much!!!
Kimberly is amazing. I feel so fortunate that she and I have the exact same taste so I love everything she does, her quilts, her fabric choices, etc. Her live UA-cam weekly events is full of meat,, there is no wasting time. You always feel like you should take notes! Plus she lets you know what is coming which is wonderful! I am a big fan, and I order a lot from her store as I like what they carry and their prices are good and their customer service is awesome.
Kimberly Jolly and Jenny Doan, both taught me how to quilt, and they are still teaching me😁, and I´m in Germany, so you can see the wide spread both ladies have and how big they are in the quilting world! Not to talk about the possibility to shop in their wonderful online stores! Simply wonderful and I´m very grateful for all their generous way of sharing knowledge, I wouldn't have learned anything about quilting without them! Best wishes from Germany and you all stay safe and sound!
I love Kimberly and her videos and especially her monthly surprise packages Sew Samplers. I am someone who started quilting in the late 70s early 80s and things have been so different it’s almost like Eras “Pre-rotary cutter and post rotary cutter, Pre pre-cuts and now post pre-cuts. It is amazing how many people do quilt theses days. I can hardly imagine where quilting will be 20 years from now. ( I am a super introvert myself). Thank you both for this enjoyable video.
The Jelly Roll Jam video was one of the first three videos I watched to get me going making quilts. I had watched your color values video, then Jordan Fabrics Tea Time, (which is the first pattern I made) and then I watched Kimberly’s jelly roll jam video. You three are still my go-tos when watching quilting videos.
I've gravitated more to FQS in 2020 because they have been able to stay relevant in such a time of change and continue to deliver on so many products and projects that continue to inspire my quilting experience. Thanks, Karen, for yet another great video!
Y’all are terrific and generous in sharing your expertise. Enjoyed this interview; also enjoy your series of guests, Karen. I’ve been a subscriber since the Dollar Store Hacks vids. And I watch Kimberly each week. Thank you for being quality company and creating authentic community.❤️

Excellent interview! Thank you, Karen and Kimberly. 🌷 🌷
What a sweet interview with you two rockstars! Thanks for being so "real" and for all you both do to make quilting so much fun!
What a wonderful interview! I love the Jollys and Fat Quarter Shop! ❤️
Thank you for your support 🤗
