Thank you so much for this. 80 year old single woman farmer, all my greenhouses have been DIY wood ones, using bat tape. Trying my first hoop house now, wanted to make sure I put the channels on right. Really excellent video.
@@ambermorgan I just have that kind of personality 😂. I was born saying “no thank you, I can do it myself”. TBH, I am one of “those” perfectionists whom no one likes. At some young age I decided I was never going to be happy with other people’s work and decided not to encumber people unfairly 😎 with my unwanted and unasked for, criticisms. When you see statements like SINGLE and 80, that should be a red flag 🚩 right there. Anyway, thanks for the comment. Keep on…keeping on 💜🌺
Just for clarity..... Why did you install wood on the hip, then attach the channel? can you not just install the channel directly to the frame? What am i not understanding?? i have seen it installed both ways.
The wood provides additional structural integrity. Some tunnel manufacturers and builders will use double wire channel instead of the wooden hip board and single wire channel. We prefer the second option. Additionally, if the high tunnel is funded by the USDA NRCS, wooden hip boards are required for roof run off water catchment systems.
We do not install wire channel along the baseboards on the side of the tunnels because we have roll up curtains. We do install single wire channel on the end wall baseboards. During the winter months, producers can use wiggle wire to secure the roll up curtains at all four corners of the tunnel along the end wall wire channel.
Would have been so much better if you had pre-drilled the wire channel on the ground as it removes one more variable when assembling a structure like this. Wire channel is the only way to go for greenhouse plastic. Always good to have some safety eye wear when drilling metal. You have some very good tips.
when the bends are in the metal you cant predrill.. You would never be able to figure out exactly where the bolts go.. Just saying .. Go watch again and see if you can at the top bending the metal that hard ..
We source from a local greenhouse supplier. We encourage you to find a local or regional supplier and directly pick up from them, as shipping can be costly.
Sometimes you can use a u clamp sort of thing. It's pretty much got a pocket for the metal pipe like the shape of a U. And then it has pieces of metal that go out on the left and right side that can be drilled into the wood to attach the brace, then drilled through the U part of the brace into the metal to hold it there. You can also just use a drill bit to make a pilot hole in the board and into the pipe, and drive a screw or bolt into it.

Wow! As a 42 year old with many hands still around to help I am inpressed!

We love to hear that!
Well explained and demonstrated. Clean presentation without time wasting non-sense.
Very Educative and detailed video.
Thanks.
Awesome instruction guys!!
Thank you!
Nice work!
U guys doing great job. Thank you👌
What happened to using a clamp instead you have Chris

Are you not going to install the wire channel at the side bottoms of the greenhouse or front/back bottom?

Where did you find 12' wire channel?

Never heard of wire channel before today. How was the board mounted to the metal? I am "drill bit challenged."

We use self tapping metal screws (tek screws) to attach the wire channel to the hip board.
Would you do the same to a pvc hoop house?
We do not recommend using pvc for high tunnel bows.
You should measure and predrill the channel before you try to install.
We use self tapping metal screws (tek screws) that do not require pre-drilling.
I don’t think you could’ve dragged this simple operation out any longer
